Food and dining room is good, just a couple of things. I needed to ask for the bread, I’m lucky I noticed the disclaimer on the bottom of the menu “Freshly baked bread will be served upon request” It wasn’t offered I needed to ask for it, like some peasant asking for a handout. Even though I did read this disclaimer on the menu it still made me fell quite small having to ask for it. It should be offered, let me refuse, or welcome it, but don’t make me beg for it.
We were asked if we would like deserts but no coffee offered.
Any of the normal complementary items you must beg for, because none will be offered.
The food was very good. I had the cod which was good but, being from Houston, I felt it could have used a little more seasoning or a bit of light sauce. Appearance was lovely, but curled, shaved carrots or other vegetables were tasteless. Strawberry shortcake ice cream sandwich was delicious. However, shortcake cookies were so hard could hardly break them to eat.. Great taste though.
As soo as we arrived at Sleeping Buffalo the staff made us very welcome, sat us at a cozy table and explained the menu. Great atmosphere, good food and great service.
Interesting dining room with a smallish menu but the dishes we had were cooked to perfection. I can remember coming to the same dining room (maybe a different name) over 30 years ago and mentioned it to the waitress. The son of the original owner is now running it.
Vriendelijk en goede kwaliteit
The food and service was amazing. Carleen was very attentive and made our dining experience exceptional.
The food was fabulous and our server Melissa was awesome!!!!
We went for our anniversary to Sleeping Buffalo. Staff were super friendly and our server was very attentive and nice. Didn’t like the ambiance as it looked more of a hotel waiting area than a dinning room.
My wife an I ordered Alberta beef and Elk strip-loin. The food was just average. My wife didn’t like her Alberta Beef so I ended up eating her food. The Elk was ok, had better Elk before. Overall it’s a good place but nothing great or spectacular. Can get tastier meal for the price elsewhere.
Excellent Elk dishes from their own ranch. Highly recommended.
Service was very good and the staff had a very good grasp of the food contents. Atmosphere was very good with a great view. Food was excellent especially the bisque. A dining pleasure.
The menu had some very interesting and well executed wild game options, like elk and boar, and the food was excellent. However, the atmosphere lacked something - it was not at all cozy and didn’t have a welcoming vibe somehow - and the service was downright lousy. Honestly, I wouldn’t go back for that reason.
Good atmosphere. Enjoyed the meal. Pudding very good! Server experienced & friendly.
Very good service. Food was very tasty and good size portions.
Canada Day with the Family. Great dinner. Tuna and halibut were wonderful
Tables were spread out and noise levels low actually allowing a dinner conversation at normal volume without being able to hear your neighbor! Food was excellent. Especially liked the elk loin that we paired with a very good Canadian Pinot Noir recommended by the waiter. Plenty of great wine choices besides Canadian, but we wanted something “local”. Very pleasant evening!
The restaurant was grossly understaffed and the waitstaff kept on forgetting requests. Several people had to walk the bill to pay. The food was average and the pasta vegetables and chorizo was absent the chorizo and taste.
We had a very nice evening here. Service was excellent and food good. It took awhile to arrive though.
We had an amazing meal! The service was delightful and the food timing was perfect. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to Banff.
Wait staff were immature and manager lacked experience for this caliber of restaurant, food was very well prepared, delicious. Ordered a charcuterie platter and just as we were enjoying ,,,our main entrees arrived ,,,,very poor timing! Manager did not offer any consideration for this.
Food was high quality and well-prepared. We had the Elk tenderloin and Cod dishes. Pricing is reasonable for the quality of the food and location. Service was friendly but slow, which seems to be typical of Banff restaurants in shoulder season. They offer bread if you ask for it, and the bread was very good. If your expectation is fine dining you'll be disappointed, since this is a lodge setting, but I would happily eat here again.
Sleeping Buffalo was not what I had expected from a CRMR restaurant. On the positive side the service was good, our server was attentive and chatty. He made an excellent whiskey sour which I love. They had a good wine selection with lots of Canadian representation. The food wasn’t great. We ordered the beet gnocchi which was extremely dry and tasteless almost as though it had been frozen and thawed a few times. The mussels were nice, but we ordered the wild boar main dish and it was almost impossible to cut through. We struggled with it for a while but left quite a bit of it behind. The price of the food did not reflect the experience we had.
I asked for a med steak and the steak served was rare.
My husbands boar meat tasted like a beyond in chewable pork chop. Very disappointing.
We were a group of 10 which in itself is a challenge to accommodate in Banff on a Friday night. The Sleeping Buffalo delivered a flawless evening for us. Each person was extremely happy with their food and the experience. The atmosphere was relaxed and conversational, we couldn't have asked for more!
The food was fantastic and so was the service. If you're looking for a quite, intimate evening this is definitely the place. We initially felt uncomfortable speaking above a whisper because it was so quiet, but I suppose that should have been expected given the name!
In the end it was a great experience. The service and the food was top notch!
First time here and was pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing! The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was nice. We had to take a cab from Banff but it was worth it. While we enjoyed everything, the Bison short ribs were the winner of the night, very tender and not at all gamey. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
Our server Courtney was amazing! She was very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was excellent. We will definitely be dining there again
Great food, Service was awesome!
Kyle our server was attentive and personable we brought our infant daughter with us and had an enjoyable night with the family.
Excellent service, ambiance, and food!!! I highly recommend it for dinner and breakfast
We enjoyed our meals in the restaurant . The staff are all very attentive . The only negative would be it is rather expensive .
They went the extra step to accommodate my wife's dietary limitations. Outstanding locale, quiet ambiance perfect for intimate conversations. Tables well spaced apart. Excellent service and well appointed wine list. Please keep up this winning combination!
Very accommodating and tolerated my younger children even though they were blowing out candles
Nothing but giggles and understanding
Great choice and food too
Food was awful, we felt so bad that we still took it home but quickly threw it away. Wasn’t for us
We are on our 10 year wedding anniversary trip and like to enjoy fine dining. It was excellent!
It was an amazing night and atmosphere to set the tone and mood for a newly engaged couple to start talking about their future wedding plans; the service (Michael) was sensational and extremely personable. The food was incredibly delicious, and the ambiance truly made it a special night to remember! Thank you Sleeping Buffalo!
Lovely cosy decor. Food was very good and beautifully presented. We would order everything again: scallops, duck confit, charcuterie board and gluten free flatbread. Excellent accommodation for gluten and dairy allergies. I would have rated this restaurant higher, however the restaurant was very quiet, 3 other tables yet the service was very slow. It took over 35 min from the time we sat down to get our first plate; and at least 20 min to get our first round of drinks.
A quaint New Year's evening, with impeccable service and a 5 star meal.
Excellent food and wine Loved the cozy ambiance by fireplace It’s fine dining by fireplace!
Great food and professional yet friendly servers! One of our favourite restaurants in Banff!!
We love the Sleeping Buffalo - the food is amazing, the staff outstanding and the atmosphere is so cozy!
The service and food were excellent!
