We went to the souviener shop by mistake. The restaurant is located on Tunnel mountain.
There were lots of parking and the staff was wonderful.
The food was even better. the dish I wanted to try was sold out so I decided to try the caribou and it did not disappoint. Very tender and flavourful, even my picky eater 5 year old loved it.
Will definitely return if we make it back to Banff in the future.
Went for the Taste of Adventure menu and it was excellent. Great value. Be aware that there wine selection is on the pricier side. Not sure what the value is like on the regular menu but this was great. My duck was cooked perfectly.
On a side note went for breakfast the next morning and overall that was pretty disappointing, so I'd try somewhere else for breakfast.
We were staying in the neighborhood and stumbled across this dining room, glad to find it. It is very comfortable, with tables set far apart, and the staff was gracious.
The food was a bit disappointing: my steak was flavorful but not at all tender; my husband's caribou was "ok" but his black rice was white and dry; everything came rather tepid. The best food on our plates (a stalk of broccoli and a piece of carrot) was negligible but not over cooked.
I started with a hot toddy that was small, expensive ($12 I think), watery, and not potent.
A few nights later we had dinner in the fireplace lounge adjacent to the dining room. Again, the staff was welcoming and professional. I had two appis (soup and Ahi tuna); my husband had the caribou burger. Not great, but convenient, comfortable, and saved us a drive into town.
The food was absolutely amazing! I don't usually eat game meats, but the bison pate was particularly wonderful. Our servers were excellent. They were well versed in the food and drinks we were interested in having. It was one of the best dinners I have ever had.
The food was pretty good, very pricey, and I ordered the artisan salad and it was so drenched in dressing it was inedible!! It was my sons birthday so I didn't want to make a fuss so I didn't send it back, but the waitress saw it was uneaten and didn't volunteer to bring me another with less dressing (I told her it was too much dressing). Given the fact that we had ordered the most expensive entrees on the menu, I thought this was obnoxious. In addition, you have to ask for bread with your meal. We ordered a lot of food as my young sons were climbing a big mountain the next day--and the waitress made a comment that it was so much food did we really need bread?!!! I mean, I really thought that was inappropriate and ignorant of how much young fit 21 year old boys can eat! Frankly, I don't go to an expensive restaurant to have comments made about our order.
Excellent food with a very nice selection of entrees. The elk was superb and there are several offerings for just about anyone's taste. Don't miss out on the exceptional desserts. The berry tart was the perfect end to a lovely meal. Excellent wine list. Highly recommend.
We tried the Bison short ribs, caribou medallions, and Elk. They were all excellent... beautifully seasoned reductions some served with wild mushrooms. Even the salads were outstanding.
They also had a another dining room with a large fireplace (under a mounted Bison head); it was all very comfortable.
The service too was quite good.
Our experience at the Sleeping Buffalo was great. We stayed at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge for our first year anniversary and had a great dining experience. Food was delicious and the restaurant has an amazing grand cabin vibe going for it. Service was amazing and very friendly. The only downside was the price of the food (which they aren't trying to hide it's on the menu before you walk in), and the lack of cocktails. The happy hour is amazing! $6 drinks potent enough to down an Ox but the selection was very limited. If I remember correctly their were only 4 signature cocktails on the menu. Beer menu was great, but if you aren't into beer (like my wife) than you are a little limited. Lounge has a different/more affordable menu than the main restaurant which we didn't initially know about but menu's were good. Would definitely recommend going especially if it is for a special occasion where you don't mind spending a little extra money.
What a horrible experience, and for Easter Sunday brunch! The host/I'm assuming manager admitted to seating people without a reservation, so us and many others had to wait.
After we were seated we never did receive any additional service, other tables were given water and carafes of coffee. But it was a buffet and there was an additional coffee station so we enjoyed our conversation and the food.
We walked up to the counter to pay and there was confusion as to who should have our bill. The server who processed our payment apologized and it did seem genuine. But this should never have happened.
We would like to thank Ben Porter for his excellent, enthusiastic and professional service. He was attentive, polite and friendly.
We have eaten here several times and are always happy with the wonderful food. Portions are good and the presentation is beautiful. Lots of flavours and textures that all work well together.
The charcuterie plate is one of our favourites!
This would be a great place to bring visiting guests for a taste of local flavours.
I have ate here before and there was something off about our experience this visit. Pricing and value seemed off. The pacing was off between our appetizer and Our entrée. I had the bison and elk duo and the elk short rib was cold and chewy. There was a lack of sauce on most of our dishes. Sad because I really liked this place before.
OMG, so good!! The food is sooooo... good. We had 3 courses; scallops so tender and juicy, my husband had striploin and elk ribs, awesome, I had grilled tenderloin done to perfection with wine reduction, yummy!! We both had creme brûlée, huge portion for dessert, again delicious. The meal portions are small but if you eat slowly with small bites and savour it all, it is well worth it. We had wine with our meal. They also serve a very tasty fresh bread made with potatoe flour and rosemary. We gobbled that all up! The ambiance was very enjoyable and memorable. Hannah was our waitress, she was exceptional. Kudos to the chef and sous chef, they catered to our tastes, thank you all 😋
Food was unique. It is the only place in Banff area that serves caribou, and nicely prepared at that! You can also enjoy locally raised beef, elk and wild boar preparations in the large, log cabin-like dining room. Would say that the appetizer cold cut platter that included elk salami, biar sausage, and other local meats and cheeses, nuts, dried fruits and sauces served with rye bread was outstanding. Nice wine list as well. Truly a place to try something local and special. Did not have dessert so can't comment on that. Shared appetizer and salad plus entree and wine was more than enough for dinner. Dining room is in the nice, clean, log lodge main building of the Buffalo Mountain Lodge Resort and includes separate bar area with large wood burning fireplace.
We were totally delighted with our choice to drive from downtown Banff to this hidden gem of a restaurant. The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was cozy and beautiful (decorated elaborately from Christmas). We enjoyed wine from British Columbia and wild game dishes.
