The restaurant was grossly understaffed and the waitstaff kept on forgetting requests. Several people had to walk the bill to pay. The food was average and the pasta vegetables and chorizo was absent the chorizo and taste.
We had a very nice evening here. Service was excellent and food good. It took awhile to arrive though.
We had an amazing meal! The service was delightful and the food timing was perfect. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to Banff.
Wait staff were immature and manager lacked experience for this caliber of restaurant, food was very well prepared, delicious. Ordered a charcuterie platter and just as we were enjoying ,,,our main entrees arrived ,,,,very poor timing! Manager did not offer any consideration for this.
Food was high quality and well-prepared. We had the Elk tenderloin and Cod dishes. Pricing is reasonable for the quality of the food and location. Service was friendly but slow, which seems to be typical of Banff restaurants in shoulder season. They offer bread if you ask for it, and the bread was very good. If your expectation is fine dining you'll be disappointed, since this is a lodge setting, but I would happily eat here again.
Sleeping Buffalo was not what I had expected from a CRMR restaurant. On the positive side the service was good, our server was attentive and chatty. He made an excellent whiskey sour which I love. They had a good wine selection with lots of Canadian representation. The food wasn’t great. We ordered the beet gnocchi which was extremely dry and tasteless almost as though it had been frozen and thawed a few times. The mussels were nice, but we ordered the wild boar main dish and it was almost impossible to cut through. We struggled with it for a while but left quite a bit of it behind. The price of the food did not reflect the experience we had.
I asked for a med steak and the steak served was rare.
My husbands boar meat tasted like a beyond in chewable pork chop. Very disappointing.
We were a group of 10 which in itself is a challenge to accommodate in Banff on a Friday night. The Sleeping Buffalo delivered a flawless evening for us. Each person was extremely happy with their food and the experience. The atmosphere was relaxed and conversational, we couldn't have asked for more!
The food was fantastic and so was the service. If you're looking for a quite, intimate evening this is definitely the place. We initially felt uncomfortable speaking above a whisper because it was so quiet, but I suppose that should have been expected given the name!
In the end it was a great experience. The service and the food was top notch!
First time here and was pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing! The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was nice. We had to take a cab from Banff but it was worth it. While we enjoyed everything, the Bison short ribs were the winner of the night, very tender and not at all gamey. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
Our server Courtney was amazing! She was very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was excellent. We will definitely be dining there again
Great food, Service was awesome!
Kyle our server was attentive and personable we brought our infant daughter with us and had an enjoyable night with the family.
Excellent service, ambiance, and food!!! I highly recommend it for dinner and breakfast
We enjoyed our meals in the restaurant . The staff are all very attentive . The only negative would be it is rather expensive .
They went the extra step to accommodate my wife's dietary limitations. Outstanding locale, quiet ambiance perfect for intimate conversations. Tables well spaced apart. Excellent service and well appointed wine list. Please keep up this winning combination!
Very accommodating and tolerated my younger children even though they were blowing out candles
Nothing but giggles and understanding
Great choice and food too
Food was awful, we felt so bad that we still took it home but quickly threw it away. Wasn’t for us
We are on our 10 year wedding anniversary trip and like to enjoy fine dining. It was excellent!
It was an amazing night and atmosphere to set the tone and mood for a newly engaged couple to start talking about their future wedding plans; the service (Michael) was sensational and extremely personable. The food was incredibly delicious, and the ambiance truly made it a special night to remember! Thank you Sleeping Buffalo!
Lovely cosy decor. Food was very good and beautifully presented. We would order everything again: scallops, duck confit, charcuterie board and gluten free flatbread. Excellent accommodation for gluten and dairy allergies. I would have rated this restaurant higher, however the restaurant was very quiet, 3 other tables yet the service was very slow. It took over 35 min from the time we sat down to get our first plate; and at least 20 min to get our first round of drinks.
A quaint New Year's evening, with impeccable service and a 5 star meal.
Excellent food and wine Loved the cozy ambiance by fireplace It’s fine dining by fireplace!
Great food and professional yet friendly servers! One of our favourite restaurants in Banff!!
We love the Sleeping Buffalo - the food is amazing, the staff outstanding and the atmosphere is so cozy!
The service and food were excellent!
We thoroughly enjoyed the innovative Canadian cuisine and ambiance. As we enjoyed our delicious appetizers, gorgeous deer grazed outside the window under the Christmas lit lawn! We had mentioned that it was a special occasion in our reservation and regrettably no extra attention was given but the food and service were so good we will definitely return anyways 😊
We had an excellent experience for my wife’s 50th birthday in November. It was quite and offered us the privacy for good conversation. The food was excellent as was the service. I would recommend Sleeping Buffalo to anyone.
It was our anniversary. They had flowers at our table .. complimentary glass of Prosecco. Amazing service . Once again we shut the restaurant down . Made our special day complete... thanks and see you next year
Server was friendly and engaging, and was the only server on duty, consequently dinner took two hours, and we did not have dessert or after dinner beverages.
Food was mediocre, gnocchi was dense, heavy and needed better seasoning. I adore staying at the lodge, but will never eat there again.
This is definitely a hidden gem. We were having a mini honeymoon in Banff and we loved this restaurant. The reservation was easy to get, we were greeted like old friends, the food and wine were explained to us and the experience was exceptional. Thanks very much for a most enjoyable evening.
Food was yummy and the Rocky Mountain cuisine was unique. Our server, Courtney, was fantastic- funny, helpful and attentive without being too much. The cookies were excellent as was the Heirloom tomato salad.
We had a pleasant dining experience at Sleeping Buffalo. The atmosphere is quiet, you can have a conversation without any interferrance. Quite romantic if that’s what your looking for. If they had a fireplace in the dining area, it would have been perfect.
I had expected more ambiance and also food with more flavour. my wife had fisk, and we have tasted better, but it wasn't bad at all. but the total bill was (much) higher than what i felt i got for my money
What a great experience. Our server Luke was awesome. Very knowledgeable and provided great service throughout our evening. We have the mushroom ravioli as a starter and it was perfect. Could have that as a meal!!! Chicken dinner was fantastic. We will come back as it was a great evening out.
Wonderful dinner of game meats, with attentive service.
Revisited the location on our anniversary. Great location. Would visit again.
This restaurant was a huge surprise and delight. We had driven for 5 hours form Kelowna and wanted a good meal but really didn’t want to drive anymore. We were staying at Tunnel Mountain Resort & it was right across the street. Fab food, great ambiance & great service. We totally lucked out!
The chicken dish was random chunks of white and brown meet swimming in a bowl of cream I thought I was ordering a juicy chicken breast and leg. The salad was stingy with dressing, cashews and four thin slices of nectarine. The service and ambience was impeccable.
Everything was wonderful...waiter, cocktails, food! I had the free range chicken in a cream broth with mushrooms. So tastey!! The potato/sweet potato gratin was also really outstanding. If I lived anywhere near Banff I would truly enjoy trying the whole menu. It was a wonderful end to a week in the Canadian Rockies.
Quiet, small dining room in Banff. We originally were interested in this restaurant for their game meats (we saw elk, bison, etc. on their posted menu). The actual menu seemed to be missing a few of the items we were interested in like the elk carpaccio and boar, which was disappointing. We got the charcuterie board which was lovely, their daily mushroom soup (tad too salty), the bison duo (delicious), and the gnocchi (underwhelming). Service was also slow - seemed to only be one server for the whole dining room while he was also running around the back doing things. Took a while for us to get more water. Felt a bit overpriced for what we got (our whole meal was about $140 excl. any drinks), but this is a nice option if you want to get away from the crowds and noise of the main village eateries.
