The Slanted Door offers diners a gourmet experience where the food on the plate looks as beautiful as the views of the Bay Bridge and the Bay Lights in the evening from every table. Charles Phan, the executive chef, goes to the root of the dishes to represent the food authentically with a modern twist. The Slanted Door offers lunch and dinner menus with a variety of appetizers, palate cleansers and main dishes.

The meals consist of organic elements including grass-fed beef and pasture-raised, cage-free chickens. Local seafood options include wild Gulf shrimp, spicy Monterey squid and seared Ahi tuna, or visitors can take advantage of the raw seafood bar. Those looking for a vegetarian or vegan menu will find plenty of options available. The Slanted Door offers a family-style menu and a wide selection of desserts with an extensive bar menu to wash it all down.

Chef Charles Phan is a wonderful friend and chef. He really knows how to run a restaurant and entertain people. The food was all very good and enjoyed the atmosphere at the Ferry Building.

The food was great so I would probably go back but I'd be selective about what kind of event or meal I would choose Slanted Door for. It is quite difficult to hear people which makes it a bit tricky as a venue for a meeting or anything intimate.

this is restaurant is too expensive for what it is. it was good but not worth $100 per person which is what it came out to be! I've had good Asian food for much less. we originally had a reservation for 6 ppl. then it increased to 8 ppl, and they charge a " family style" rate over 6 ppl of $65 per person. It came highly recommended, but not for this price.

Very imaginative and eclectic food selection. Service was first rate. The melon salad was inspirational. You don’t see melons on the menu much. The dumplings we had were new to me and very tasty. I think they had a bean paste in them.

I had been to Slanted Door years ago when they were small and first starting out; it was amazing. I was excited to go back but it seems it has just gotten to be TOO big. It was quite loud in the restaurant and our waiter spoke in a sheer whisper. We started out by ordering a few drinks and small plates. Our food arrived well before our drink order. We ordered the dumplings, lettuce wraps & spareribs. The serving size on the spareribs was as big as an entrée. With the service being less than desired we opted to leave after getting our small plates. It just was not the experience we were hoping for. I would not go back nor would I recommend it. We have had many a great meal in San Francisco and this unfortunately was not one of them.

Overrated and with very poor service from the staff. Not the best Vietnamese in SF either. Too expensive for the output.

Was expecting a lot more on my first time at Slanted Door. Food was okay but there are many comparable Vietnamese restaurants in the Bay Area. Tuna Tartare and The shrimp and chive dumpling was really good. My date had the pork shoulder noodles that was like any bun dish at any Vietnamese restaurant. I have the shaken beef and it was super soft and tasty. But for $43? There is a Vietnamese restaurant in Oakland (the one with a Horse theme) that has this dish and it’s just as good for half the price. And the bathrooms were not as clean as I would expect for a high-end restaurant. There was tissue wedged into a keyhole on the door to prevent people from looking in. Also there was a used mop just resting against the common sink.

It was a friends recommendation and my girlfriend and I were extremely pleased. The Somalia recommended an excellent bottle of wine to compliment the food, and the service was excellent and the food was prepared perfectly.

We all love dining at the Slanted Door. The food is fabulous, as is the service. The noise level was terrible, and I wish you could fix it, but it won’t keep us from coming back.

Hello - I made a reservation for four on August 1, 2019. We arrived ten minutes early on September 12, 2019, for 6:00 pm arrangements. Upon arrival the hostess made it clear that we would not receive a comfortable booth (which I had requested for our 33rd Anniversary), and that the booths were taken until 7:30 pm, as all parties were just seated.
Is there not a way to check over your reservations to see what type of Celebrations would take place that evening? The people I observed in the “taken” booths were all wearing business attire, therefore....regulars.
Would it be better to skip the reservation process and just show up...lmk.

The food quality will shock you with how mediocre it is. Some dishes seem like afterthoughts while others portray a faux quality.

Restaurant banks on word of mouth and location over food.

Cocktails were good, though.

I was very disappointed in my last visit to Slanted Door. It kind of feels like they are resting on their laurels a bit. The food was okay, nothing memorable as in years ago when. The spring rolls were not good. The shaking beef was tasty enough but the portion size small for the price of the dish, and this is something I rarely if ever complain about. The service was lackluster, not bad just as if they really don’t care if you are there because there is another customer waiting to get in. It’s really a shame, because when Slanted Door burst on the scene it was really fantastic. I definitely will not be back nor recommend to anyone.

I've always loved the ambiance of this restaurant - very dynamic and inviting; a great dining place to take family and friends anytime. That's why I took my cousin and his family from Toronto, Canada to experience their great dinner menu. We started with the Spicy ahi tuna tartare, which has the perfect blend of freshness & spice. Being "seafood lovers"ourselves, we enjoyed the caramelized wild gulf shrimp & the spicy squid partnered with their cellophane noodles. Not to miss the Celebration cake for dessert which is enough for our whole table. Service was fabulous! Can't wait to come back for more...

Wonderful view. We were seated close to a window, then given a larger table where we were both able to enjoy the view. Appetizer was very tasty, as was the beer. Main dish was nothing exciting - expected more for a $30 entree. Service was extremely slow and waiter made very few check-ins. We had to flag staff down — very disappointing. We’ve heard many positive comments about the restaurant, so were extremely disappointed and will not return.

Love love love Slanted Door and have followed them around SF for decades as they've grown and relocated, ultimately landing in this beautiful, light filled space in the SF Ferry Building. Food is always great! Service can be hit-or-miss (as a former food server I can only imagine how exhausted they are, busy all of time, plus servicing tourists). Panoramic view can be spectacular if your seated in the east-facing dining area (with view of the bay, Treasure Island/Yerba Buena Island, Bay Bridge, Port of Oakland container cranes and the East Bay skyline). North-facing dining area not so great. Nothing much to look at and tables are so close it is uncomfortable. Request a booth if you'd like any chance of holding a conversation with your tablemates. Toilet rooms are tired, clean but need to be refurbished.

This place used to be good. That was years ago. It’s run down now. Owners crammed way too many tables and seats trying to cram as many people in as possible. Food is way overpriced for what you get. I thought the ambiance would be better but because it was packed (like that of a lunchroom in grade school) it is really not worth it. Very disappointed.

The food is ALWAYS amazing at slanted door. Imperial rolls, crab noodles, shaking beef and whole fish some of my favorites.

Service can be hit an miss, on this visit it was more miss than hit, but the views and food mostly made up for it.

I met with out of town friends for lunch and was incredibly disappointed. Two of us ordered the pineapple spritzers which were delicious but for $9 apiece I could have had a glass of wine (I think - didn't look at the wine list.) I ordered the lemongrass pork and it was tasty when i was able to find a piece of pork buried in the cold noodles and limp greens which tasted like romaine lettuce. Lunch for 3 without alcoholic beverages was $109 - wish I would have eaten at one of the walk up spots in the Ferry Building! Will not be coming back...
