The Slanted Door offers diners a gourmet experience where the food on the plate looks as beautiful as the views of the Golden Gate Bridge from every table. Charles Phan, the executive chef, goes to the root of the dishes to represent the food authentically with a modern twist. The Slanted Door offers lunch and dinner menus with a variety of appetizers, palate cleansers and main dishes.
The meals consist of organic elements including grass-fed beef and pasture-raised, cage-free chickens. Local seafood options include wild Gulf shrimp, spicy Monterey squid and seared Ahi tuna, or visitors can take advantage of the raw seafood bar. Those looking for a vegetarian or vegan menu will find plenty of options available. The Slanted Door offers a family-style menu and a wide selection of desserts with an extensive bar menu to wash it all down.
The Slanted Door has several options for groups. Our PRIVATE DINING ROOM accommodates 10-24 guests for a quiet sit-down lunch or dinner. Our LOUNGE is available for semi-private cocktail parties for 30-75 people, or seated lunch or dinner for up to 50. Our PATIO is available seasonallyView Private Dining Details
Great meal, excellent variety. Reputation is well earned. If you are on the area, make a reservation, you won't regret it.
Chicken was great, beef was eh. Pretty loud and kind of frenetic. Overall, it was decent.
Ribs were really tough and food definitely was not worth the cost. The server was very laze-faire.
60th birthday celebration! Our server was very attentive and very kind. My sister in law had a wonderful birthday at your restaurant! Thank you!
Reservations was for 7:30 pm. I checked in at 7:25 but seated at 7:55.
Celebrating a birthday—fabulous evening and the food is amazing!!!!
The Slanted Door has delicious food and is in a beautiful setting. On this visit the service was slow. We asked for an appetizer straight away and it was brought to our table fairly quickly and was delicious. But we finished it and waited quite sometime before the waiter approached and took our order. This was actually a plus since we were quite filled up from the appetizer and thus ordered less food than we might have had we ordered immediately. We again waited quite a while between the meal and the chance to order dessert. We declined dessert but received a lovely complimentary cotton candy birthday treat (I had mentioned it was a birthday celebration when I reserved). As we left we tried to say goodbye to the hostess but she didn't respond. I was thinking I was being hypersensitive but once we exited the restaurant my husband mentioned that everyone working in the restaurant seemed glum. Fantastic food, beautiful view, gorgeous setting, somber staff.
We had an 8:15 reservation on a Monday night and weren’t seated until 8:30. We were given a “window” table which was 90 percent covered by a wall (there were much nicer tables/booths available). Service by both the host and the server were rushed, like they were annoyed. Food was great and they did a good job accommodating my gluten allergy, but we did not like feeling like they didn’t care about our business.
It was about my fifth visit and again enjoyed all. Food continues to be excellent. Noise level is rather high but we had a good seat in corner and it may have been quieter than elsewhere in the room. Cellophane noodles with crab, book chop, spring rolls, etc. all were very enjoyable.
SERVICE WAS VERY SLOW AND NOT VERY ACCOMODATIVE. TABLES ARE ALSO ARRANGED VERY CLOSE TOGETHER. FOOD IS GOOD BUT RESTAURANT POSTURE IS NOT CUSTOMER FOCUSED.
The service and food was outstanding! Would highly recommend. We live in Dallas and will definitely return on our next visit to San Francisco.
Crispy fresh, light, unique flavors. Would have liked guidance on how to eat certain dishes. Otherwise good service.
Great Vietnamese food with excellent wine list
food was very good and well prepared. Very, very noisy in the restaurant however.
You couldn't carry on much of a conversation because of the noise.
Service was a little disjointed but once we finally ordered entrées it improved.
Went for dinner. Surly hostess. Infants crying, Kids running around, noise level crazy loud, food has gone down hill, shaky beef was tough, ribs were over sauced, whole fish was dry and over salted. Serious disappointment!
Had a wonderful dinner with great friends!
Food was amazing but the staff seemed like they couldn’t be bothered to deliver it? The actual people who delivered it to our table were great, but our waitress and bartender seemed less than interested.
Can't go wrong with the Slanted Door. One of my favorite places to bring friends whenever I have a visitor. Incredible diversity of Vietnamese food, from raw hamachi and oysters to the BBQ short ribs... can't go wrong
Excellent food and service as always. Great for sharing several small plates of incredibly creative and beautifully presented delicious food.
Interesting and creative menu. Some of the menu items are a bit pricey, but tasty. Really good service, and they paid extra attention to my allergy concerns.
Fun restaurant, good food.
Very enjoyable. Would recommend
The Slanted door was straight FIRE! My fiancee and I have been talking about it for the last couple days and we will surely stop by there again.
I have been searching for a fabulous Vietnamese restaurant since I moved from Southern California. Slanted Door fits the billl everytime. The food is consistently well prepared and the service is impeccable. You can not beat the view from Slanted Door.
This is the second time I have dined at the Slanted Door and been thoroughly unimpressed by the sloppy team service and the food. Not one item of 7 dishes stood out as being exceptional. This included the oven roasted Sea Bass, Squid entree, Cauliflower side, 2 appetizers and 1 dessert. Service was abrupt, dropping dessert menus by 1 server and being approached 30 seconds later by another asking if we were ready, (this was the case from the beginning to end of our meals). Also, no explanation was given after we ordered coffee and an empty coffee cup was placed on the table with no mention of the fact it would take 10 minutes to have that cup filled by yet another random person walking around with a French press. We finished dessert before it was served. Just not a good experience and there are so many amazing places to eat in the area I would suggest looking elsewhere.
Everything from the wine to the food and service was excellent! Will go back again!
Service slow and received food 50 minutes after seating.
Our reservation for a 1:30 pm late lunch was perfectly timed as we went from the high energy Friday lunch ambience to a somewhat moderated and more romantic birthday meal. Each dish was beautifully presented—3 types of fresh oysters with several dipping options and the best pho, with medium rare steak and a velvety homemade broth, we’ve ever had. Char, flaky and tender, paired well with grilled cauliflower. A wine specialist identified a lovely Austrian wine that held up to all our dishes. On a beautiful Spring day, it was a truly fine SF experience thanks to the non-intrusive, excellent service by staff.
Great tasty fresh food!
Great wait staff and service!
This is one of many visits and always a fine experience!
Just not a great experience--and expensive for what it was--nothing special about the food and the service was hurried and routine. I agree with the other negative reviews.
Visited San Franciso for the frst time and had read several positive reviews about the Slanted Door. This restaurant is absolutely fabulous! While awaiting our table we had a drink and oysters at the bar. Once seated the two of us shared spring rolls, shaking beef, and bok choy with shitake mushrooms. Added a side of rice and this was the perfect amount for 2 people. Although every dish was great, the shaking beef was the star! After reading reviews about the olive cake we could'nt resist and shared one order. SOooooo delicious! The atmosphere was lively and our table had a perfect view of the Bay bridge. Wait staff was attentive and helpful.
One tip: If you want a specific date and time be sure to make your reservations early!
The food was wonderful.. we were lucky to get a window seat, so had a lovely view. The waitress was really helpful and friendly. You definitely need to pre-book.
Great food but unfortunately quite noisy setting. It was quite difficult to follow the conversation because of the background noise in the restaurant.
Outstanding as always. The oysters on the half shell are great starters. Love the crab noodles, shaking beef, whole fish (this time a bass) plus got to try the confection plate with the cotton candy....YUM!!!! And the bar cranks out some wonderful cocktails. Love the cool and unrushed service. Recommend the Ghostwriter Pinot Noir and Fritz Hagg German Mosel to accompany your selections.
Excellent food and service
Overpriced and mediocre. The glass noodles and crab is all noodles and no crab. A dated tourist trap.
It is the fifth time we are visiting this restaurant, each time we are visiting San Francisco.
It was a "coup de foudre" , the first time...with a group of friends.
Everything was excellent...dont miss the papaya salad!
The food is just excellent.
Awesome dinner. Very lively place with great drinks and food! Must get the squid, and vanilla bean cheesecake!!
Way too loud
