Always my go to choice when headed to SF. The servers are always on point.
La comida es deliciosa. El servicio increible. El lugar hermoso, con buena vista, las bebidas súper rico. Todo nos encanto
Family vacation and celebrating engagement
I came from Marin via Ferry, my daughter from her office at UCSF - a terrific time had by all.
Great food and service but a bit loud.
Great location and busy, bustling cafe-style ambience is fun. Entirely open kitchen adds to the dynamism of the experience.
The dishes were oddly different in size - a small bowl of pho contrasted with a big plate of shaken beef. On that beef: big pieces of seared tenderloin in an onion-dominated simple dish felt a little crude, lacking the aromatic nature of the original. And where was the garlic? The papaya salad and egg with long beans were both fresh and tasty (but the egg dish shouldn't be listed in the vegetable section).
Overall it felt a bit like a celebrity chef had industrialised his dishes. But it was still a good experience and we would go again.
Great restaurant, amazing food!!!
Food, service, ambiance, view - everything was great!
It's amazing that the Slanted Door remains as popular as ever. This location has, understandably, gotten to be a huge tourist attraction. And it feels a bit like a food factory. Having to secure a reservation with a credit card? And the the day before having someone call to be sure we are showing up? Food is still good, although the spring rolls obviously had been made in advance. We felt rushed. No lingering here!
This remains one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. The food and service are always excellent, it is on the water with a great view, and sits in the Ferry Building which is a great place to browse for food and gift items.
Great meal - we had 11:30 am reservations but restaurant called and said they had computer issues and would not be open on time - sat for 11:30 reservations around 12:00 . Other than that it was great!
Too noisy for comfortable talking. Food was great, as it always is, but our waitress disappeared and it took forever to get the check.
Nothing spectacular. Living in SF, you can get excellent Asian cuisine anywhere in the city and not have to reserve a table over a month and a half ahead of time for a Saturday evening. Pricey for what the food is. Not sure why it is so hyped up.
We hadn’t been to the Slanted Door in 10 years and it was everything I remember!! So delicious!!
The restaurant is a beautiful location right on the water in the Ferry Marketplace building. The wine list has really amazing old world wines that pair well with the cuisine. The service is always consistently good and I've never had a major issue with it in all the times I've gone. The food is never bad, and the quality is always high, but the flavors did not always feel very inspired (especially for the price). We started with the daikon rice cake and the mung bean dumplings. The texture and flavors were very nice on the former, but the later tasted pretty similar and just had a very "carb" bun taste. For our main course, we ordered the stir-fry chicken, the tofu, and lastly the bok choy. The chicken was very well cooked and a good portion size, but for $30+ I expected something a little more than the normal flavors of a cashew-style chicken. The tofu was absolutely the best thing I've ever had there; the texture was great, it is spicy and flavorful. I would 100% recommend it to anyone going, even if you aren't vegetarian. The Bok Choy was cooked fine, but it had little flavor and as with the chicken, for how expensive it was, I was pretty underwhelmed.
We made a reservation for an anniversary evening which was not acknowledged at all. The waitress was inattentive, forgot part of the order, and was not very gracious.
Great food, lovely service, terrific view, all in all the best.
Excellent food!! Beautiful view of the Bay and Bay Bridge. Required to have Prix Fixe menu for parties over 6 served family style (definitely more than enough food). The price was $54 per person--this doesn't include beverages. Overall the menu item choices are so good it's worth it.
The food is amazing !
The food was beautifully presented and so tasty but the room is very noisy.
The papaya salad was great but it was downhill from there. The tuna appetizer was bland, as was the main dish lamb. We had a pork/corn dish which was good though nothing special. Did have dessert so no comment. I used to love this place- but much less unique/original/tasty than prior visits. Almost forgot- my glass of wine couldn’t have been more than a few ounces and my husbands monitor was tepid- supposed to be cold and refreshing! Happy to pay for great food but this was pricey and mediocre!
Great waitstaff. Attentive but not overbearing. Amazing food.
This place is notoriously hard to get into, so think ahead and book a table. The vegetarian spring rolls with peanut sauce were recommended to me and they are wonderful. Also recommend the crab with cellophane noodles.
Great dinner service totally must
Server was very attentive and food was beyond amazing. We ordered a little bit of quite a bit and every dish was great. Even tried the vegetarian noodles and I loved them.
Have been to Slanted Door previously. For this most recent experience, again the restaurant was busy. Our server was especially attentive. But I'll have a hard time going back because the noise level most recently was just too loud. It's not fun to have to shout through a conversation.
In spite of telling the waitress that I was very allergic to red bell peppers my squid dish came full of red bell peppers. we sent it back and when a new one came it was just a big old plate of squid with some pineapple --it was uninteresting and I was disappointes.
Our 80+ birthday celebrant was honored with a stand of cotton candy. Who knew it was a fav of hers since childhood? Sweetly sentimental w/o prompting.
Excellent service as usual.
The tofu dish and salads are great but many of the veggie dishes have fish/eggs; would like to see more vegan options on the menu.
I go to The Slanted Door for healthy, consciously sourced and delicious food. We had a 1:30 PM reservation this time, and it was a bit noisy and crowded -- will try a later time next time, but otherwise a great experience. Wonderful service, wonderful food.
It was our last night in San Fran and we were recommended to try Slanted Door. Apart from the rather frosty reception at the door the evening was great. Good was fabulous as was the service and the ambience.
Everything was excellent and the service solicitous and knowledgeable. Try the pineapple spritzer. Best virgin drink
I've ever had.
I usually love going to the Slanted Door. My most recent visit was disappointing, however. The ambiance and view is of course spectacular. But the sommelier was so busy he couldn't come over to recommend any wine. We went with the recommendation from the waitress, which was fine, but she did not know anything about it. Our food order was confused with someone else's. And finally... don't order the spare ribs. It is an appetizer. We were just 2. The plate came with 6 huge ribs. It would have been enough for a dinner entre. Fish appetizer was good, but the remaining food was not special. I hope this was a one off, since I have always enjoyed this restaurant in the past.
I was late arriving for our reservation, but my friend was seated and ordering for us prior to my arrival. The server was clearly annoyed that I was late - he barely spoke to us as we ordered and generally emanated some serious attitude. Was VERY off-putting and if I was seated at a table of his again I would request a different server. It's fine to be annoyed, just don't show it.
Food and view were great but our server was beyond bad. Can’t recommend knowing that someone might have same experience!
Server had a really bad attitude. On the surface, his words appeared customer oriented, but his tone and demeanor made it clear that he was not really interested in providing us with a good meal.
Spring rolls were okay; have had better at the mom and pop Vietnamese restaurants. Crab with noodles was very tasty. Chicken in clay pot was okay, chicken was tough.
Both of us noticed that the server's attitude improved 100% when he brought us the check.
We wanted an elevated dining experience for a birthday celebration. Hadn't been to Slanted Door in a long time, though we frequently visit Out the Door, a sister restaurant. The location, with views of the waterfront and Bay Bridge as the sun set, was great. The food was good, but truly -- no different from the OtD menu for the past few years. The shrimp/garlic/chive dumplings and clay pot chicken were quite good. Service was fine, though slow. Having noted that it was a birthday celebration, they did bring our dessert order with a candle, which was thoughtful. It's definitely a big tourist destination, and the parade of very casual wear detracted from the atmosphere, as did the cleanliness. The restaurant just wasn't as shiny clean as it should have been. The bathroom was definitely not up to standard -- with a dirty mop and bucket and cleaning rags at the sink. The entire experience was ok, but not at all special, and not good value for the price. Won't be rushing back anytime soon -- Out the Door is as good and a better value.
Food is flavor and the menu here is intriguing and original. Service was terrible. Friendly but slow to a crawl. Waiter missed two items from our order yet appeared to write everything down. Bill was accurate to what they served, not what we ordered. O well. Very high prices for what dishes they do serve. Not sure I would go back. Too hard to get a rez then a let down. How did they get such a big reputation? Location? Fun good but not worth the price.
The last few visits the food has been overly salty and on my most recent visit my server pretty much deserted our table. I had to flag other servers down to help us...disappointed in the experience
This was our second visit to Slanted Door and it did not disappoint. The service was excellent and very knowledgeable. The cuisine was absolutely spot on from the spring rolls and tuna tartare to the shaking beef and soft shell crab. Cocktails were delicious and of course the Vietnamese coffee is a must have. All in all a wonderful experience not to be missed in San Francisco.
