So expensive and not definitely not worth the price
Lots of people. Would be nice to have a few more severs.
The Slanted Door is our favorite place to dine in San Francisco and we make a point to go there every time we visit. Not inexpensive, but well worth the price. Everything we've tried on the menu has been excellent.
The food wasn’t seasoned properly and not memorable. The pork belly dish was amazing which is why I gave the meal 2 stars. The scallops and calamari dish were a huge disappointment and needed seasoning and a hit of acid.
This is my second visit to Slanted Door. I went many years ago when they first opened , but have been unable to dine at the restaurant during my return visits to the Bay Area. It did not disappoint! Everything on the menu was excellent. Our server was very pleasant and very helpful. She did a fantastic job in her recommendations. I will come back as often as I can!
Every dish we ordered was cooked to perfection and delicious.
Slanted Door is an amazing dining experience. We have been coming here for several years and the quality of dining experience has remained fantastically consistent! The food is very tasty and the service is superb!
We first went to Slanted Door at its old location in 1997, and we had wonderful memories. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner last Friday as well. The service was informed, friendly, and solicitous. Our waiter offered excellent recommendations and ensured that the dishes came out in a leisurely succession, not all at once, so we could truly enjoy each course.
Delicious food an great service!
Waitstaff were awesome. All went out of their way to accommodate our requests for a quiet-ish table (the restaurant is Lowe dean busy!!) and vegetarian/valentine options.
Had a great time, able to talk but in a lively environment!
Great! Loved it!
This is a great place to eat. It is noisy and always busy but the food is always exceptional so worth the wait. There is around the back a take away service called out the door.
Our three visitors from sydney declared it the best meal of their entire trip. Slanted Door was outstanding. fresh ingredients presented with architectural beauty.
Outstanding food and exceptional service. The restaurant was extremely busy and the service was amazing. He was always there we we wanted to order more food and how the kitchen can send out orders so efficiently and delicious is a wonder. Slanted Door continues to be excellent on every level.
This was my second time at the restaurant. The food is outstanding, and the staff attentive.
View of bay and bay bridge. Excellent food and service
Always loved the Slanted Door since it original location on Valencia. Sometimes I am nostalgic for its warmth and quaintness.
Whenever I visit San Francisco, I always make it to The Slanted Door. Love the views, the team, the food and the wine.
Had a great time. Server was very pleasant
Food was delicious
The food was excellent, but it appeared there had been a glitch with their reservation system. We were seated about 45 minutes for a 7:15 PM reservation, and the staff conspicuously made no effort to apologize or make efforts to accommodate the large numbers of people who were in a very similar situation. It was quite amazing to watch the bartenders avoid making eye contact with the people who were waiting to be served.
Got a gift card for my bday from my friend in AU. Booked the reservation almost a month in advance. We still had to wait in a long queue to check in. The food was just ok - lots of other places in the city with better food and value for money. Our waiter definitely needed training in customer service to say the least! For a restaurant who charge food/drink on the high end should at least provide good/excellent service!
The food was excellent and expensive. We felt it was worth it.
The selection was limited and it was recommended that we choose between 3 and 5 items for two people. We got 3 items and it worked out great ... nothing left over and we were full.
We got reservations for 5:30 and by 5:45 the place was just about full.
One of my favorite restaurants; but I had not been for a few years and wondered if it was as good as I remembered. It was. Excellent food, but the restaurant lacks adequate wait staff.
The environment was loud but in that “happy people” way that makes it feel like you are at a great party!
The porterhouse steak was truly truly delicious and the claypot chicken to die for
We had a play date in the city - Slanted Door was the perfect way to end a fun filled day!
Food was good to very good. Our server wanted us to order lots of extra dishes, which we did not. She had to come back 1-2 times as our table was having a good discussion, so weren't always ready according to her schedule. At the end, she dropped the check in the middle of the table and walked off. While I do not believe we were rude to her, we did not feel the same.
Have been there a few times previously and had not had this experience. They are always busy so understand the desire to turn tables, but not to the point of rudeness.
First time visit and was impressed with the very tasty food, varied menu choices and excellent service. Wine list is extensive and tailored to the food which is meant to be shared. The portions, while not large, were adequate for the for the four of us. I will say that one of our dishes, the Artic char ($26)-an entree, was a rather small piece of fish that provided one bite each.
We had (early) lunch reservations and it was not crowded when we arrived. But, by 12:30 the place was nearly full (and noisy). It is certainly worth another visit. As for the price, well, it is San Francisco.
Still our favorite restaurant in the U.S. Interesting, extremely prepared contemporary Vietnamese food, great Ferry Building location, highly professional service. We've been customers since the Mission District days, and we would disagree with those who think it's resting on its laurels or has otherwise tapered off.
We had a reservation for a table by a window for 6 for 7:45.
At 8:15, they still could not seat us because they still did not have a table available. They seated us at 8:30. at the back of the restaurant by the bathrooms.
The guy handling it was very pleasant. He apologize profusely and said that they were understaffed. He also said that this is a long standing problem; they do this all the time to people who have reservations.
Good food, not respectful of OpenTable reservations
Unless you bring a mega phone, do not expect to be able to speak or listen to your table companions.
Unbelievably loud and noisy.
20 minute wait with a lunch reservation???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
There are no bad choices on the menu here. Everything was really good. My friend and I split everything we ordered which was good because we wanted to try the flavors of multiple items but would never have been able to eat more than one plate each. We had a fantastic dessert which was a poached pear with lots of different pear oriented bites on the plate. Highly recommend the food. The view of the waterfront is also a plus.
Mediocre service. Food overpriced. Very loud.
My birthday! Love to celebrate it there, and kids loved my b-cake: sugar cone;-)
Estábamos de vacaciones
The food the food was great as usual, but it was marred by some of the worst service with ever had in there and we’ve been going since they opened. Don’t know what the problem was but it took forever to get our orders and even longer to get the table cleared between courses. Really unusual for Slanted Door but did mar the evening.
I used to go to SD when it started in the Mission. The Vietnamese fusion food is 10 x elevated since moving to the Ferry building . Unusual textures and flavors using fresh interesting food.
We shared the Shaken Beef, Tuna Tartar, Chicken in Clay pot, Seared Ahi.
All were delicious , creative and balanced.
They brought a Birthday surprise with a candle on it that was spun citrus sugar on a stick looking like a white beehive wig. It was fingertip food like cotton candy.
We also had the chocolate pot de cremè and the Meyer lemon poppyseed cake dessert.
Everything was amazing
We had dinner at Slanted Door to celebrate my husband’s birthday. It was amazing right from the start. We were seated immediately in a booth with a beautiful view of the bay. Our Sommelier helped our son choose a great wine to go with our dinner. We started with the pork belly and green papaya salad which was so good. Dinner was the famous Shaking beef which did not disappoint, along with the caramelized prawns. Everything was perfect and our server was friendly and attentive.
We had not dined at Slanted Door for some time because it is hard to get reservations; however, this wait was worth it. I hope to come back again and would recommend this great restaurant to anyone!
Thank you, Slanted Door!
Fabulous food. Fabulous view. Fabulous service. What more could you ask for?
