Skovorodka Ratings and Reviews
If you are looking for a reasonably priced Russian restaurant in Brighton Beach then this is the place.
The food is great but it is easy to over order.
They also had a DJ who also played saxophone and sang.
You are also welcome to get up and dance if you like.
The worst Russian restaurant I have ever been to! Food has no taste, the Duck salad was disgusting mush mixed with greens, it tasted awfully. My chicken kebab was practically tasteless, no seasoning, served with tasteless tomato sous. My husband's lamb chops were overcooked and not seasoned. Nothing was good in that Skovorodka place: obnoxious and unprofessional waiters serving poor quality food under laud awful music accompaniment . Next day I woke up with a sleeting headache, although I did not have any alcohol .
I would not recommend this place to anybody, if they don't want their day to be spoiled and money wasted.
That was the weirdest place. We had reservation for 9pm and came in 9:05 pm and they said that we can't get a table cause they are closing, but the closing time was 10 pm. Weird weird weird
but finally they let us sit down. Food was good, place very entertaining.
But the manager or the owner who ever that person was at the door, needs to rethink what is a good customer service. Cause they did make us very uncomfortable in the beginning.
If it woulodn't b a late night, we would've went somewhere else.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Skovorodka, as they did not honor our reservation. We were coming to Coney Island for the day, and used OpenTable to find a place to eat. We looked at several restaurants, and Skovorodka showed openings all day long. We made our reservations before leaving Manhattan, over an hour in advance, and headed to the restaurant. We go their early, but were told they didn't have any space for us and that we should have made our reservations at least a day before. We were turned away, and had to find another place to eat.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience. I cannot rate the food, as we didn't get to eat.
One of the biggest values of OpenTable is that we can find a restaurant near us at any time, and see if there are openings, rather than calling multiple places. Skovorodka has hurt the OpenTable brand by not honoring this reservation.
Everything was great until dessert time. There was only 6 of us so we did not do a banquet we just did ala cart menu. I was very surprised when we asked for dessert menu at around 11:30pm on a Saturday night in a "Russian Restaurant " and the answer was " chef went home " and that we "should have to ordered everything by 10:30". How odd ? Otherwise the place is great, food good and pleasant music that bring you back to old 80's memories.
Standard, very well prepared Russian food. And liquor. Heavy food, and you have to like the cuisine. The home fried potatoes were superb, as was the shashlik, both chicken and lamb. And. unlike some of the other ethnic restaurants serving food of the former Soviet Union, you don't feel like an intruder if you don't belong to the appropriate ethnic group. The restaurant is very convenient to the subway as well. This is good, because parking is a problem in Brighton Beach.
This is a very good place!
I haven't try Russian food before, but what they served gave a great impression to me and my friends!
The dishes are larger than usual, so we (three ladies) ordered one salad, one hot appetizer, one soup, one meat entree and cold drink. We could not finish them all.
The service were good as well~
What an awesome little restaurant in Brighton Beach that has something for everything. Easily accessible by subway with a less than 2 block walk. The menu was broad, the food was amazing and prices just right. If we are ever back in NYC we will certainly be back!
I've been to Skovorodka 3 times now. The quality of the ingredients (short ribs, red caviar, boiled tongue) reveal no cost shortcuts, yet the food is quite reasonable.
The sophistication of the seasoning - especially on the boiled short ribs and eggplant "caviar"- is surprising. Pelmenyi were firm, flavorful, and juicy.
The interior is comfortable and decently decorated - especially given the gritty street it's on. They have DJ or live music on weekends, and people dance informally in the rear, larger dining room.
If you think you don't like Russian food because you think everything has mayonnaise and is beige - you'll surely find healthy(ish) fresh dishes that will change your mind.
We went for Sunday lunch. This is not a tourist trap like the ones on the boardwalk. I am not Russian but this place seemed pretty authentic to me. Lots of families. The pickled watermelon and pickled tomato are surpisingly good. Try them. The pelmeni (meat dumlings) were good but the Golubtzy (stuffed cabage) were amazing. I can't wait to go back for more Golubtzy. Good Russian beer and of course nice vodka selection. Nicely deocrated with Russian music videos on TV monitors. Service was quick and friendly. Watch out for extra service charge on the bill before you calculate the tip.
We have been to many Russian restaurants, I have to say Skovorodka serves the best Russian food in New York. The quality of food is what you would find in more expensive Manhattan restaurants. The salmon tartare appetizer was amazing. I had the beef strognoff, which was made with beef tenderloin, so good I can't stop thinking about it. My husband had the Skovorodka special short ribs, also excellent. The restaurant also has a very cozy feel to it. Overall it was a 5 star evening.
Next time will be back with a larger group, so we can try more dishes.
Skovorodka is an authentic Russian experience. I've traveled to Russia many times and Skovorodka is like being in a quality Russian restaurant today - it is not a throwback to the old days. The food was authentic and delicious, the beer was cold (and Russian) and service was excellent. I look forward to returning! My Russian guests visiting from Odessa for the first time in the USA were very impressed.
