Skipjack's Foxboro Ratings and Reviews
We've been to Skipjacks's a number of times. The food is consistently good, though it's never awesome. I would say that the RI-style calamari appetizer is quite good. My salmon was ok, but the wasabi crust was frankly pretty bland.
The real complaint though was the server. She was nice enough, but very, very green. Couldn't answer any of the questions about the menu and didn't know the difference between Louis dressing and remoulade (actually she didn't remember what remoulade was called, we had to tell her). Eventually the manager came over and helped get things sorted out. I would think that for a restaurant that has entrees closing in on an average of $30 that the staff would be better trained or supported. If she was there for the presentation of the menu by the chef prior to service, she didn't retain anything.
Our dinner was great, steak was cooked just the way I asked, the seafood tasted great as well. The service was outstanding this day. The waiter was very polite, and thorough. It was before 4:00pm and my reservations were not until 5:00pm and they were able to take us in early.
Skipjack's of Foxboro was hopping on the night we dined there - as the 2016 Winter Classic Alumni Game had just ended and it was also New Year's Eve. It made for a fun and upbeat atmosphere. Steve our server was attentive, gracious and very personable. The BBQ Scallops were excellent - very sweet and cooked perfectly. The BBQ Sauce had a bit of a spicy kick - which I loved and it worked perfectly with the garlic mashed potatoes and onion strings. My husband's grilled swordfish was delicious and very moist. Our desserts were beautifully presented and very large portions. My husband's apple crisp was sweet and very tasty; my key lime pie was luscious - rich, but not overpowering. The Manager on Duty stopped by to check in on us during the night - which was a nice touch. We will definitely return to Skipjack's in Foxboro and we will be asking for Steve!
Skipjack's is a reliable and generally consistent seafood restaurant in Patriots Place. The menu does not change a lot which can be boring if you frequent the location more than once but the preparation is consistent so if you are a seafood lover this is one of the very few local restaurants with a main focus of seafood.
I have been to this restaurant at least 12 times. I've noticed a steady decline in the quality of the food, service and overall experience. It's basically just ok, if it wasn't where it is at Patriot Place and serving seafood there wouldn't be any reason to go out of your way to go there.
Everything was outstanding from the person that greeted us at the door, to our waitress being kind and making sure our drinks stayed full, and the food was amazing. Everything was cooked perfectly and so moist that it felt like the food melted in our mouth. The only downside was the large party seated on the otherside of the restaurant.. They were so loud that I had to raise my voice so my girlfriend could hear me. They did not relent the entire time we were there. I would understand if it were a sports bar/restaurant, but not a restaurant as nice as this that charges 30+ a plate.
When we are looking to go out someplace for fresh fish, Skipjack's tops our list. In fact, I cannot think of a time where it did not live up to expectations as favorite places will do once in a while. The cocktails are always good as are the appetizers, salads and main courses. This most recent time I decided to treat myself to a lobster on a weekday night. I'm on a diet and, well, lobster is low in calories! I mean, it couldn't be helped! I chose the 2lb steamed and it came out perfectly done with delicious green beans. My kids, 10 and 8, got clam chowder for the 8 year old which she ate up completely and my 10 year old got steak tips. Here's where they actually might improve. A nice kids steak tip or even cut would be nice. As it is, we order the adult meal and take some home which isn't horrible but it would be nice to have a smaller plate available. Again, though, great meal as always.
What could be better than a leisurely brunch with well presented brunch or full menu choices and reasonable prices! The accompanying music was outstanding. The service was attentive without being intrusive... helpful and hospitable. Suggestion... The eggs benedict and huevos rancheros got rave reviews. How wonderful not to fight the traffic or pay for parking in Boston to enjoy Skipjack's jazz brunch.
I have always been a SkipJacks fan. We had our rehearsal dinner at one of their Metrowest locations years ago, so I was excited to meet some of my friends at the Foxboro location for breakfast. Despite the restaurant being less than half full, the service was excruciatingly slow. Our waitress was not knowledgable about the menu, and had a chip on her shoulder. Our party of 5 waited over an hour to be served egg dishes, which would have been absolutely had they not been served cold and overlooked. Poached eggs should be runny, not solid light yellow, like a hard boiled egg. That was the case for everyone at our table. They remade our breakfast, which felt like too little, too late, especially after waiting an hour the first time around. They offered no adjustments to the bill. The replacement breakfast were delicious, but I suppose anything would've tasted great at that point.
Despite having made a reservation via open table, when we arrived at the restaurant we were told by a "manager" that had we contacted the restaurant directly they would not have accepted our reservation because they were booked. He was not apologetic and was actually quite rude. The restaurant was not full by any means and we decided to wait, though we contemplated leaving. We were entertaining customers and to get everyone together to leave wasn't really an option. Then we were actually seated in about 15 minutes. The food was good and our actual server did a good job. Based on the unwelcoming environment there are too many other fine restaurant choices nearby to ever go back.
For the price you would expect higher quality service. Good was the highlight. Service was mediocre. The 10% tip I left was too much. But I hope it made the point that the service was not up to par. I mean I was not even done with my salad when she set enter down and said here it is, and she walked away. Wow, I'm not going back.
My wife and I arrived for our 5PM reservation and were seated in an nearly empty dining room. Our waitress arrived shortly after we were seated and to our drink order. We also ordered some sushi at this time. I looked through the menu and selected the Skipjacks Combination (Swordfish, Grilled Shrimp, and Crabcake on a bed of spinach). My wife was not sure what she wanted when the waitress came over to ask if we were ready to order so we asked for a few more minutes. Our waitress disappeared at this point and we were surprised that she took so long (I would say about 12 - 15 minutes) to return to us. (the restaurant was still nearly empty). We ordered our meals (my wife had the Mahi Mahi) and had some of the bread. (Bread was very good). We we seated close to the Sushi bar and saw our order come up. Our waitress was missing again. We asked a passing employee (Manager I think) to bring over the sushi (Sushi was great!). Our food arrived about 10 - 15 minutes after we finished our sushi. Our meals were excellent. Our waitress seemed to be more active during our meal (the dining room was getting a bit more busy at this point). Wed some ordered the Chocolate Bread pudding and some coffee for dessert. The dessert and coffee came quickly and we started our dessert. All of our food up to this point was excellent. (Portions were good and tasted great!) The bread pudding was served much too hot. (I would guess that is was heated up in a microwave) We could not eat it for about 5 minutes. It tasted OK but the temperature made the dessert portion of our meal a bit disappointing.
Overall we liked the food. The service was not great and the dessert missed the mark.
Second time there for lunch -- Seated promptly and got right to business. Server was not intrusive but there when we needed her. Manager offered us a bigger table to spread papers around but we declined. All four of us had the Cobb Seafood Salad which is excellent.
I placed my reservation on line, and I added a message advising it was my wife's and my 29th anniversary. It would have been nice if a little cake or some small congratulatory gesture was extended, but it was not.
I also felt the jazz trio was too loud. It made conversation during our meal very challenging. I am a lover of jazz, but it was a little overpowering.
The food and service were excellent as always.
Food was amazing best clams casino i ever had!! main dish was pasta and seafood in a lobster sauce delicious! sever was excellent the only drawback is its a little pricey for a family save this one for special occasions! I wish they had one in NJ so i could go more.
The fish here is always fresh and deliciously prepared...Kudos to the cooks!! The lunch menu is a great value. Dinner is a bit more costly. The warm bread is hard to resist, and it is served with real butter!!! (Thank you.)
The waitstaff has been well trained and most are friendly and efficient.
If you like fish, lobster, or even steak and burgers, this is a wonderful place to go. On a nice weather day, they have many tables outside on their patio, and every table has an umbrella.
And when you are done eating, you can go shopping , bowling, or take in a movie!
Surprisingly, our dining experience wasn't the usual in terms of food quality on this visit. One of us ordered the gluten free Shrimp Chardonnay. The sauce had very little flavor and the shrimp tasted as though it had been previously frozen.
The mahi mahi was very good.
We will be back however, as this is the first time we.ve been disappointed,
