Skinner's Loft Ratings and Reviews
What a great surprise! I went here with my boyfriend for our anniversary and we ate on the 2nd floor - the restaurant was super cozy and the staff were so nice. BUT, on top of that, the food was spot-on delicious, and nice portions too. Would definitely go back and recommend, without a doubt!
The food was great and the service was awesome. My friend has a food allergy which the waiter took seriously and spoke with the chef about her meal choices.
The bar is you typical fare with great service and popcorn!
We both skipped dessert but the choices sounded delicious.
Skinner's Loft was OK. I think after reading so many fabulous reviews I was really expecting something out of this world and was left wanting more. The steak was overdone as were the fries. We ordered Mac & Cheese and it was so bland it needed a plethora of salt & pepper! Overall the wine was amazing and the atmosphere really saved the night. Our waitress seemed annoyed by us... again it was OK. I don't think I'll be going out of my way to go back...
Such a cute quirky restaurant! I called to confirm my reservation as well as request the rooftop to which they were more than accommodating. I wrote via Open Table that it was my boyfriend's birthday but did not mention it to our sever. She was so kind as to bring out a singing moving candle to celebrate after we decided we were too stuffed for dessert. Wonderful experience!
We had eaten here for dinner during the year and the menu was broad, food delicious and reasonable in price. I recall it been wholesome and well prepared. This time is seemed super over priced with a very small selection. I sat down and read the menu and instantly knew we were in trouble. There was very abstract entrees and even the safe bet of chicken seemed unusual. My family of 6 were in town visiting and this was their first meal. I was embarrassed that I had chosen it after my previous experience been so good only to have it shattered this time. I ordered salmon and was surprised at how small it was for 24 dollars. It was so small and narrow it looked so mean on the plate. It was accompanied with 8 gnocchi pieces and alot.. and I mean a lot of green puree that was bitter and did not accompany the meal nor add to it. I left hungry. I paid 40 dollars a head - which I dont mind paying if I feel satisfied and well fed. The water may need to be looked at as it tasted bad with a chlorine smell. I loved this restaurant. I'm so disappointed.
Skinner's was a good place for quiet dinner. The servers were attentive and friendly. We chose to dine outside, as the rooftop deck was one of the features that attracted us. It started to rain lightly, but table umbrellas were handy for those who chose to stay, us included. The food was very good. I ordered the cod over mussels and fresh spinach and my wife ordered the mussels entree. The only negative was that there were several unopened mussels, which rendered them inedible. The sous-chef (if there was one) should've caught this. Other than that, it was an enjoyable evening. The prices were moderate for the Historic Downtown district.
I dined with 6 of my girl friends last Wednesday night. The food was delicious and creative. The crab and artichoke dip was very good and I was impressed by the mussels. The only negative thing about this dining experience was that when we were double charged for a caesar salad and asked the waiter to take it off he became very angry and rude. We had to ask for a manager who just so happened to be dining at the table next to us when it happened and she was more than happy to take it off the bill for us. Overall, the food was good but I will not be going back.
We were at the rooftop. We got the gorgeous ambiance that we were hoping for. That was awesomely perfect for the birthday celebration of our 22 year old daughter. We love the service, the food, drinks and the very friendly server.
It was indeed an unforgettable experience and a meaningful Birthday dinner!
We ordered nachos with brisket and lentils and the brisket was virtually non-existent. I ordered a steak salad and was VERY SPECIFIC about my steak being "well-done" but it came out bloody. I've been here quite a few times and I love the atmosphere but the food is less than average.
This was the first time I was here. We sat on the rooftop and enjoyed a couple of sharing plates which were good. I wouldn't say they were outstanding, but they were good.
I had the filet mignon sliders, which were extremely tender and tasty, along with the parmesan garlic fries, which were also good.
While the rooftop was enjoyable on such a nice evening, we were sitting right near the air conditioner, so it was a bit noisy.
Only disappointment was that we were asked to wrap it up due to another party having a reservation and they needed our table. We had already paid our bill, but I didn't expect to be asked to vacate.
We were seated on the rooftop which is a nice quaint area with not too many tables. The tables are not too close together and the atmosphere on the roof top is casual-laid back with some nice plants put around. The service and food was very good. We ordered a steak and also the salmon. The salmon was delicious. For an appetizer we ordered the calamari which the texture and flavor was excellent. Overall we enjoyed our dining experience.
Ambience is nice but the food was horrible. Mussels are not fresh, mushroom pizza was too plain and the bread is too thick. Steak was a disaster, and my husband didn't even finish 10% of the salmon dish. Overall, it was a bad dinner while the environment was nice. Definitely we won't ever go back.
The atmosphere was wonderful. The bread, mussels, and calamari were quite tasty. The portions were more than expected for the price, compared to other nearby restaurants in Jersey City. We all agreed that our entrees were delicious - cauliflower parm, steak, and salmon. Our server was excellent.
Went here on a dinner date and it was fantastic! Waitress was on top of her game and our food came out rather quick. I ordered the salmon, my date ordered the chicken and we were both highly impressed. I have to say one of the best salmon dishes I've ever had. Ambiance was great! Super romantic. We sat at a table by the window and were able to have great conversation because it wasn't too loud. Highly recommend!
We love Skinner's Loft, and even more now that we know we can book a table on Open Table! Great food, great atmosphere, great service...never disappoints. The only criticism was that they pumped the music up a bit loud, and it was already a loud atmosphere with everyone talking on a busy Saturday night. But it was minor - we could still talk to our friends and enjoy the evening.
