Was a great spot, especially to get together with your friends and have a good meal. Definitely recommend and in a great location in JC.
The ambiance was beautiful especial when the sun went down. The service was attentive. The food good and organic. Wish the rooftop was larger to hold more people. Overall it was good.
We celebrated my Dad's 83rd birthday at Skinner's Loft. The staff was attentive, gracious and saw to our every need. The food was wonderful. I would highly recommend this establishment to others looking for a restaurant to hold a special evening.
Excellent service with a very attentive and friendly server. Great atmosphere inside even though the rooftop was closed due to rain. It can get pretty cozy during happy hour so make sure you call ahead for a reservation. The main courses, beer list, and appetizers were PHENOMENAL. Their mac&cheese is always a GO TO and the crab dip is great to share. A little more upscale than your standard bar and grill type of place - this is great for a date or special occasion. I love that they had a ton of vegetarian options as well.
This is my old standby, go to bar and restaurant. This time was a great experience as always. Started with an craft IPA and finished with Irish Coffees. In between, delicious food and exceptional service and ambiance. You really cannot go wrong with this place. Highly recommended.
We were a group of 8 and our table was ready for us. Several of us had the organic salmon and everyone agreed it was absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend.
Some of the online reviews give this place a rave. Yes- decent craft cocktails and an OK wine list. Very good beer selections. And the inside dining areas are quirky and inviting. The roof top area is great. But the food is just dressed up bar food- nothing particularly well prepared. Steak salad had way too much fat on the steak (and for $22?). Fried calamari was what you expected, same with the turkey nachos. Too much Panko on the artichoke dip. Decent stout sauced pork chop with mashed potatoes- you get the idea. Ho Hum. Food delivery was VERY slow! It was over an hour before we got our entrees.
Decent food and reasonable value
Delicious Cod Entree Paired with a delicious glass of white wine.
Accommodated a large group very well! We will be back!
Very loud and horrible service
Not a bad restaurant, but it was very noisy and cramped. Overall, not bad.
I love Skinner's Loft. The food is always good, the wine list is long and the desserts are delicious. It is a gem in the neighborhood - very nice decor that is eclectic, but cute and cozy. The service is always great as well. I highly recommend it!
Atmosphere was fantastic. Service was on point. Food was amazing.
Will definitely be back and would definitely recommend.
Food is high quality, location is great, it’s cozy and not too noisy
The overall experience and food was great. The restaurant called as our reservation was approaching to confirm - from my recent experiences, most places do not bother to contact you after making reservations. They also remembered to check the reason we were dining (birthday) and sang happy birthday to my mom without us reminding them - this was a huge point for them! The food is amazing and the place takes pride in their service and customers, it was worth me making the effort to submit a review. Definitely worth giving a shot and great vegetarian options as well.
Good service service could be better
We went here for my birthday after originally wanting to go somewhere that didn’t take reservations and for a Saturday night we were wary to do so so I found Skinner’s loft and they easily took reservations online. When we got there we were immediately so happy with our decision. This place has a really cool, unique, comfortable yet upscale atmosphere. The food was fantastic and our server was so attentive and genuinely friendly. We ordered so much food we didn’t know what to do with ourselves. I highly reccomend the fried avocados and the lobster gnocchi although everything we ate was delicious. This place also seems like a cool and fun place to hang out for drinks and I’ve heard they have a great brunch. I would definitely go here again!
My favorite restaurant in Jersey City. Never disappointed. Good food, good location and a casual ambiance that is great for a friendly get together or a special date. A varied menu and good beer and wine selection will please most foodies. The pork chop is always a solid choice and the daily specials are worth checking out
Visit with my son, his godfather and us. Great atmosphere, food. Wonderful experience.
Eclectic menu, impeccable service and a refined yet relaxed dining room ambiance. Our favorite restaurant in Jersey City.
Enjoyed tasty dinner, attentive service, and creative decor! Great for special celebrations or lighter fare during happy hour!
Beautiful restaurant, unique menu, and really made it a special night for us, making a point to congratulate my sister and her new fiancé on their engagement.
What a great surprise! I went here with my boyfriend for our anniversary and we ate on the 2nd floor - the restaurant was super cozy and the staff were so nice. BUT, on top of that, the food was spot-on delicious, and nice portions too. Would definitely go back and recommend, without a doubt!
The food was great and the service was awesome. My friend has a food allergy which the waiter took seriously and spoke with the chef about her meal choices.
The bar is you typical fare with great service and popcorn!
We both skipped dessert but the choices sounded delicious.
We took our daughter for a meal. The main room was slightly too hot for us so they kindly moved us to the roof terrace where it was perfect. The drinks were great including a great Punch Drunk and the food excellent especially the pork chop.
Lovely ambiance. Exposed brick walls. Low lighting. Great place to grab a drink on the first level or go on a date on the 2nd level. Food was pretty good. Small plates were delicious.
The food was delicious and portion were perfect - we had mussels, vegan crab cake & lobster gnocchi. Service was fantastic.
Skinner's Loft was OK. I think after reading so many fabulous reviews I was really expecting something out of this world and was left wanting more. The steak was overdone as were the fries. We ordered Mac & Cheese and it was so bland it needed a plethora of salt & pepper! Overall the wine was amazing and the atmosphere really saved the night. Our waitress seemed annoyed by us... again it was OK. I don't think I'll be going out of my way to go back...
A truly wonderful experience and great place to celebrate our daughter's 24th birthday.
We sat on the roof in the summer - simply beautiful! The food was amazing, filet mignon sliders are a must (comes with truffle fries)!
Such a cute quirky restaurant! I called to confirm my reservation as well as request the rooftop to which they were more than accommodating. I wrote via Open Table that it was my boyfriend's birthday but did not mention it to our sever. She was so kind as to bring out a singing moving candle to celebrate after we decided we were too stuffed for dessert. Wonderful experience!
We requested outdoor seating on the rooftop however we're not allowed to order from the regular drink menu which was disappointing. Also, my wife and I ordered the Gnocchi w/ lobster and there was an inordinate amount of oil in the dish.
Great local restaurant. Enjoyed a delicious rooftop meal. Delicious fresh biscuits and bread. Thoughtful vegan and gluten free options . Something for everyone.
Wonderful restaurant, attentive wait staff, great food and beverage selection
We had eaten here for dinner during the year and the menu was broad, food delicious and reasonable in price. I recall it been wholesome and well prepared. This time is seemed super over priced with a very small selection. I sat down and read the menu and instantly knew we were in trouble. There was very abstract entrees and even the safe bet of chicken seemed unusual. My family of 6 were in town visiting and this was their first meal. I was embarrassed that I had chosen it after my previous experience been so good only to have it shattered this time. I ordered salmon and was surprised at how small it was for 24 dollars. It was so small and narrow it looked so mean on the plate. It was accompanied with 8 gnocchi pieces and alot.. and I mean a lot of green puree that was bitter and did not accompany the meal nor add to it. I left hungry. I paid 40 dollars a head - which I dont mind paying if I feel satisfied and well fed. The water may need to be looked at as it tasted bad with a chlorine smell. I loved this restaurant. I'm so disappointed.
The food, the staff, the management, the roof. Perfect in every way.
My wife and I had an amazing dinner. The quality of food and service was outstanding for the price. We will be back for sure!
Delicious food in a lovely, calm environment (we dined on the rooftop). We had the crab and spinach dip followed by the NY strip and the day's special. The staff were friendly and attentive making for an enjoyable dinner. Bread was scrumptious!
Skinner's was a good place for quiet dinner. The servers were attentive and friendly. We chose to dine outside, as the rooftop deck was one of the features that attracted us. It started to rain lightly, but table umbrellas were handy for those who chose to stay, us included. The food was very good. I ordered the cod over mussels and fresh spinach and my wife ordered the mussels entree. The only negative was that there were several unopened mussels, which rendered them inedible. The sous-chef (if there was one) should've caught this. Other than that, it was an enjoyable evening. The prices were moderate for the Historic Downtown district.
