Serving Mother's Day Brunch and Dinner May 13th - book your holiday table today!

This was for a special birthday. I was greeted with cordial hospitality and seated at a great waterside table on a Sunday evening.
The waiter did not heard that I only had ordered a petite crab louis salad and brought me the main large sized one instead. I noticed it because the large was ordered by another member of my group and later he acknowledged his error and said he would only charge for the size (petite) that I ordered. I thought that was very gracious.
While this entree was not super with fish, there was a side dish of salmon fillets that belonged with it, which really made it a super salad. Thank you Skates.
One of the best views in the east bay. The service is outstanding and the seafood is very fresh. Brunch and lunch offer limited options for vegetarians but there are great gluten free options including a gf waffle.
Great place to go for a relax by the water meal.
We ended up bringing a bottle wine which they had a corkage fee of $20. For starters the oysters came out in a nice smoky display which made them very cold and fresh tasting! We also got the pork belly, it was my boyfriend and I first time trying belly we are now fans tasty great! My boyfriend got the cioppino and was in heaven the whole time eating it. I ordered the sirloin with wild mushrooms the meat was over a little over cooked and mushrooms were burnt, our waiter came to ask us how everything was and he could tell that I did not like the entrée so he offered to switch it to the fillet and have them remake it. Sooooo glad he did it was a million times better.
Excellent food, ambiance, and view! We come here every year for our anniversary and a few other times throughout the year.
The server was very nice. However, she did get one order wrong and was a little slow.
The menu, to my surprise, was interesting but limited. I kept looking for more items to choose from.
Disappointed in the bread. What happened to the rosemary focaccia you used to have?
Also disappointed in the Maytag salad...so different now...no egg, slivered almonds...
Grilled salmon BLT could use more finesse. A big hunk of salmon does not work for a sandwich. What a mess it was to eat that.
Service was terrible, waited 10mins for someone to acknowledge us and the place was not crowded. Dragon roll tempura shrimp was not descaled prior to cooking.
I had not visited Skates in over 20 years and found the dining experience just as good or better than I remember.
Out of town friends connecting with childhood friend; our waitress kindly let us have a leisurely lunch, not rushed or bothered. Left her a generous gratuity as a thank you.
Great menu selections, great food and great service!
Skates was great as usual. You, Open Table, however, were awful. Unable to cancel reservation arbitrarily made by your engine for April 11.
Last year we suddenly rediscovered Skates after about 20 years of not going there (we live very close by). We are foodies and eat out a lot both in the EB and in SF. We have now gone to Skates 3 times in the past year. This was on a Sunday night. We will not be going back again soon.
The service and delivery this time (and once before, we then remembered) are ghastly.
15 minutes to get someone's attention for a drink; 30 MINUTES for a drink to arrive; when other guests came to our table another 30 MINUTES for their drinks to arrive. Wine arrives in small carafes and . . . waiter doesn't think to bring glasses. Food order taken maybe 60 minutes after arrival. Comes out reasonably, I suppose, after 20-25 minutes (that's ok).
The food at Skates is very acceptable. Everything that we had was fine (lobster bisque, oysters, two different kinds of salads; halibut, seafood louie; mussels).
Perhaps the bar and the kitchen are issues along with a very VERY inexperienced waitperson. By the end of meal two senior appearing staff had rushed over to our table (without being asked) to help clean up and remove plates because they obviously were tuned into incompetence.
We're not going back. It is beyond stupid to not get a drink or something on to the table in front of folks as soon as you can. Then you can take time dealing with other things before getting involved with food. I kicked myself for not remembering that on one other occasion in the last year the service was of a similar quality.
We always feel special when we go here. The manager is attentive and so much fun. The Sunday blood Mary bar is a must! The best dessert ever disappoint.
The atmosphere is great, food was very good as was the service.
We were there to celebrate my friends 50th Birthday and they put us in a corner table by the bathroom. The waiter was nice but forgetful and clearly not enjoying his job. The food was ok, but they served the crab cocktail in shell, uncracked, and did not provide a shell kracker. A scallop dish that was priced around $40 had one medium sized scallops on it. The halibut dish at a similar price had clearly had the fillet cut in half. The floor under our table had food dropped on it that had not been picked up. And the decor and furniture had seen better days. The view was phenomenal as was the Elderflower Martini. The Pacific Ahi Poke was good. We would go back for the view and Martini but I likely stick to the raw bar and appetizer as the food just didn’t wow for the price.
We had our 1st year wedding anniversary, the view was wonderful, food great and we had a wonderful night!!!
With exception to the food, we had a great time! My Chilean sea bass was horrible, no flavor, tuff, cooked too much, peas? the veggie smear must have sat out forever, Very disappointing meal for $21- Last year the lobster roll was on the menu which was delicious as well as the Crab fettuccini, this year not on the menu, no mention of it, no info if you had a lunch special, guests were disappointed with the Menu which is why everyone ordered fish and chips which were very small portions, oh well, had a great time and last years' food and menu were great not so this year.
We had a window table and the water was right there! The view was spectacular and our waitress was Nancy and she was perfect. She never rushed us.
The crab sandwich is just the hot crab dip appetizer
Pretty bad trying to pass it off as two items
Excellent first formal date experience!
The food was great as usual. They may have a different chef the dishes were a little different. The bar tender definitely made strong drinks
Good seafood with a lovely ambiance. A nice place to go for a family dinner or celebration .
Splendid food. Perfect sunset views. Good service. Def recommend.
Great bay view.
I hadn’t been to skates in several years, but decided to take my Mom here for her birthday. Had waterfront table, excellent service and ordered the right stuff. BBQ shrimp, Maui special and lobster bisque between us was delightful. Had a oyster shooter that was tasty. They even gave us tasty creme brulee with a candle. Great for special occasions and day time, or sunset views!
Great waiter. Food delicious.
We thorough enjoyed our meal and the service was outstanding!
Amazing service from angel
Food was disappointing but views are spectacular and service was good.
All was excellent as always. Nikita was a very attentive server.
Had an amazing evening. Invited a good friend for dinner. Early birthday celebration, our waiter Michael made it extra special. Gave extra special service. Needless to say, my friend was amazed at the service, food and location.
Location is fabulous and the meal was good quality. However it is low in value as the prices were high relative to the overall food and location quality.
we eat here at least once a month. Prime rib this day wasn't good and service wasn't the usual. Will come back as this is not tje norm.
Requested a specific table. That request was honored. “J” , our server was excellent.
Celebrated a friend’s birthday with class. It is always a pleasure dining with Skates. Service is amazing, as usual, and the food and drinks are to die for. If you love oysters, this is definitely the place to be.
Service was excellent, we were seated immediately for our reservation. Food was very good Ambience very nice
It was Easter Sunday so I understand the crowd but I don’t understand why
Everything was great except the prime rib was tough even though my husband ordered it medium rare. I was also disappointed to discover a 5% living wage service charge. I believe that the restaurant should pay its employees a decent wage. I shouldn’t have to pay a tip plus a svc charge.
We came for Easter brunch and had a lovely meal. Our server Jason was especially delightful and very accommodating to our special requests.
