Located in Mt. Vernon Triangle, Sixth Engine is in close proximity to both the Convention Center and the Verizon Center, in addition to multiple metro lines. Sixth Engine combines modern interpretations of classic American fare, nestled in the historic ambiance of DC's oldest firehouse.

This is our second time visiting and it was even better than the first. We sat upstairs the first and downstairs the second. Very nice. I made the reservations and forgot all about it being Washington, DC Restaurant Week so that was a bonus. The fritters put me over the top. Awesome! The staff treated us very nice and seated us prior to our time. Much appreciated.
Overall the food was average. The brisket was tough and very fatty. Unfortunately, one of the worst brisket sandwiches I’ve ever had. The fries were great. The restaurant atmosphere was neat because it’s an old firehouse. There are too many other great restaurants around this same area to dine at vs. returning here.
This was the first time eating here for all 4 of us and we'll definitely be back! We enjoyed brunch tremendously. Everything we ate was delicious (highly recommend the Benedict). The bottomless mimosas were a good price ($15) and I loved the history behind the building. Service was great as well, from the front of house to our server. This place is a must for brunch.
I ordered the brisket and it was amazing! Brisket on brioche with a side of fries. Great comfort food, the waiter was attentive, the soccer match and other sports were on TV, it was not overly crowded and the it was not too noisy. It's a great neighborhood bar. I will say to check with the staff on the menu, they change it often and if you have dietary restrictions it may be difficult to find many items to eat. Their brunch-lunch menu is not as expansive as the dinner menu and in general the menu for winter is heavy on pork.
We found on Open Table at the last moment. We were surprised, and a little worried, to find the restaurant mostly empty on a popular night for dining out (it was literally the only restaurant in the area that could accommodate 5 at that specific time). The server was great and provided good cutomer service.
The ambiance was nice and versatile...Good for a family or a date! The food was very good. We all enjoyed our meal. The wine selection was a bit limited, but the glass I ordered was fine.
We will go back!
The waitress was very nice and attentive. The food was bland. I ordered steak and eggs with hash browns and my hash browns was a left over baked potato that they did t even bother to cut up. I ordered my son the chicken tenders and fries they were over fried, hard to bite and extremely crunchy. Only good items were the apple fritters and hush puppies.
I've been here a couple times before, but this was the first time I've had an issue with service. Drink refills were slow and food came out in a much longer window than previous. A friend has to catch a train and she nearly missed it from food. I know this is a good spot-- hope this time was an anomaly.
Disappointed. Some of the hushpuppies in our appetizer were runnie in the center. Runnie, not just undercooked. The entrees, scallops and pork loin, were fine, but could have used more seasoning like say salt. The main reason they get a 3 is for dessert. What they advertised as peach cobbler was actually cooked peaches in a small skillet with oatmeal sprinkled on top. Not a cobbler; not even a crumble; not at all sweet. My husband wouldn't let me complain, otherwise I would have. Not worth the trip from Woodley.
We went on a quiet, rainy Friday night. Visiting from the Midwest. 2adults, 2 kids age 9 & 10. Service a bit slow, slow to greet us. Slow to take our order. Had the cauliflower app, it was great. Cheese dip appetizer greasy. Dinner order was ok. Hubs had filet and I had Rock fish. Small portions. Overall atmosphere was pretty dead. We ran out of water and had to flag waitress down for more. Overall it was ok. Nothing to write home about. Overall disappointed as the description as the first fire station seemed fun. 🙁
My friends and I were celebrating a birthday . This restaurant was recommended by Open Table when we couldn't get a reservation at Salt Line. We arrived on time and we were promptly seated. That's when the service stared to decline. Although our server was friendly, her table service was very poor. We waited way too long have our orders taken and even longer to receive our entrees. She never returned to check on us, and I had to actually get up and asked another server for additional salad dressing. This was all surprising because the dining room had plenty of empty tables. After we finished dinner we sat their with used dishes in front of us. Finally, I requested and signed the check as I stood by the bar. This was certainly not service we expected.
