The restaurant is undergoing renovations and seating is currently in the lobby of the hotel. While this may impact the ambiance, it has no impact on the quality of the food or the service. Simply put: the food was amazing and the service impeccable. My wife and I are still talking about the meal we had. It was fabulous.
If you are looking for ambiance, wait until the renovations are complete so you can experience all this restaurant has to offer. But it belongs on your "must-experience list." It is that good.
They were doing renovations but failed to let us know. That would have been a game changer. We just had a drink and a snack with bugs constantly around and left to go somewhere else for dinner.
First of all the actual restaurant was closed and under construction while we were eating. We ate in a hallway across from the check in stand and the elevators.
The seating was a padded bench with no pad left, so you were sitting in a hole. Would not recommend until new restaurant is finished.
I have always enjoyed the ambiance of Six One Six, and this visit was not a disappointment from that perspective: a very nice setting out on the patio overlooking the river. The server was polite and professional. I continue to be disappointed, however, with the still-newish French-style menu. And now that they have done away with the sushi rolls (which continued to be available off-menu because of their popularity), my overall satisfaction has dropped significantly. I wish they would go back to the original style of cuisine, as it always included a wide variety of nice items. Until then, my visits will likely be few and far between.
In a town with so many options, I can't say I'd recommend 616. The restaurant was admittedly undergoing renovation, and so we were seated on the deck, which was beautiful, overlooking the river. We got a nice cabana to sit in. The set up was actually wonderful.
The food was another story. It was eventually good, but not without challenges. My fiance ordered the scallops which she reports as having been very good, but needing something else. Most entrees seemed to have some side dish component - the scallops did not. My steak was ordered rare and came out medium. I rarely send a steak back, but at $50, I want it right.
They did fix the steak and they did comp it, so kuddos for making it right, but I would have been happier to pay for my steak and actually share dinner with my lady instead of eating in shifts.
Service was just bad. The bar was busy and we were served by one of the bar tenders who I believe did his best, but serving tables did not seem like something he had time to do. I had to track down a host to talk about my steak since we had not been checked on after our food was delivered. Drinks got empty etc.
I'm sure it's a good place and maybe we just got a bad shake, but with so many great places to choose from in Grand Rapids, I'll probably go elsewhere next time I'm in town.
Rated 3 stars overall due to being currently under construction (so this is temporary). Seating was very cramped and uncomfortable due to the restaurant being under construction and they’re using their lobby. The brunch area was very small, poor selection of food for the brunch buffet so we ordered off the menu. Food took 30min+ to arrive. It was good, but already room temperature.
The food and service was top notch. Unfortunately, we were unable to dine in the actual 616 due to construction. We will dine there again when renovations are completed.
Veryy pleased with this place, nice fancy resturaunt, waitress was great, food was cooked perfectly, they gave us complimentary glasses of wine for our anniversary, food came out fast and they did a great job writing what i wanted on the dessert plate, we will be coming back for sure.
We sat on the jdek for a birthday celebration. Justin was our server - very friendly and knowledgeable. The Steak frites was cooked to perfection. The Manager Chad stopped by to check on us. Five stars all around!
The food at 616 was very high quality. It is heavy on seafood. 616 has a wide variety of simple things like oysters and such... but also has some very creative and attractive fresh takes on seafood and presentation. The staff was very attentive and it was overall a great experience.
We had a lovely evening with friends sitting outside on the patio. This is the only place in town you can dine on the river. They recently went to a French menu. We had the escargot, oysters and olives to start and all were good. Escargot could have had more flavor - a bit bland. I had the scallops and leeks. The leeks were inedible as they weren’t tender and in large stalky chunks but the scallops themselves were wonderful. Our friends order the steak for two which was very good, albeit a fatty cut of beef. Cocktails were superb and our waitress was fun and gracious! We had a great experience overall and will return!
Service was good, drinks as well, but the food was average at best. For what you are spending, the expectation is more than average.
We came here for our anniversary breakfast date and had the warmest hospitality and service and had a beautiful view on the water. The food was delicious and we felt like royalty! We love coming here for our anniversaries! Thanks so much!
Fantastic experience! Delicious and imaginative menu offerings. Impeccable service! Beautiful facility, artfully designed, perfectly lit. Thanks.
We were not completely satisfied with the food. I was expecting more due to the hype I’ve heard.
It doesn’t help that I’ve traveled the world, including France, and had much better food for 1/2 the cost.
One of the premier restaurants around
Staff is exceptional. The spare rib was melt in your mouth, no knife needed.
Great food, service was crazy. We ordered our soup and main course at the same time. I asked the hostess to PLEASE space the soup and main course so we finish the soup before the main course arrived (13 dollar french onion soup/bowl). Did this happen? No. We all didn't get half way through the soup when the main course arrived. What to do? Finish the great soup and let my fish get cold, eat the fish and let the soup get cold? Next, my 16 dollar manhattan cocktail was removed before I finished it when I wasn't looking (talking to my guest). WTF? Never happened to me before in my life after eating at 10,000 restaurants. I wish them luck.
We were staying at the Amway Grand in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the JW Marriott is a 2 minute walk away, so we decided to try Six One Six. We loved it! Fantastic food and service! We will go again when we visit Grand Rapids.
Camellia, our server, was outstanding
Always a bit cautious with hotel dining I was hoping this experience would change my mind. Unfortunately it did not. Everything about the food, service, presentation and ambience was average at best.
Our 50th anniversary dinner. Fabulous food. Great service by Anna
Katelyn was fantastic and Food was excellent!
Anna was the absolute highest form of service we have experienced in quite some time. Definitely ask for her when dining here.
In town for a performance and 616 is a must for dinner. Currently I am following a gluten free, dairy free and soy free diet. They can accommodate happily. Food is good and service has always been top notch. Wish we could’ve stayed the night this time.
We split an omelet and we asked for extra cheese. It was very dry .
Excellent service. Wonderful view in the middle of a great downtown.
Food and service was very nice.
Great experience and our server was polite and extremely knowledgeable!
Food was good but surprisingly underseasoned. Food temperature perfect. Noise level made it difficult to hear partner from across the table. Server was attentive and helpful. Probably won't go back.... will explore other grand rapids options next time we visit. Not an unpleasant time. Just sort of eh for price point and menu offerings.
We had a great meal, the steak tartare was incredible and I make a rule of trying it wherever we go!
Peppercorn filet was great!
Very nice. Food was great.
Our waitress was helpful, timely, and not too intrusive. Her recommendations were spot on. We enjoyed a late wonderful romantic late night dinner after my companion had performed in a local concert at St. Cecilia. The sound level was reasonable for lively conversation, although a little less background noice would have been nice. I will be back.
We celebrated our anniversary with dinner here for the first time. We had a really weird experience though from the moment we checked in. Our table was "ready" but only had 1 chair, so the hostess had to grab another one. The table was pushed up too close to a party of 10 right next to us, so she asked if we wanted it moved over, which of course we did. Our waitress didn't greet us for a while, so in that time a different male server got us water, which was fine. Then randomly, the manager on duty came up and asked if we wanted drinks, didn't tell us who he was or why he was at our table requesting this. This was after we noticed him standing around the hostess stand checking out women who were walking past. For it being a fancy restaurant it was pretty loud and not as romantic as we had hoped, but that's fine. Our waitress was unfortunately being run ragged by the terrible table of 10 old people who looked like the type that condemns millennials, but then acts like nothing by high maintenance jerks to their waitress all night. So we felt bad for her, and when she did make it to us, she did a great job.
We put down on our reservation that we were there for our anniversary and it was never addressed during the meal. It wasn't until we were about to leave that our server asked us a couple questions and it came out organically, to which she then offered us champagne to celebrate, so that was nice. Overall, the food was amazing. Our server did great once her other table let her breathe, but just some very awkward interactions from other employees there. Can't say I'd go back anytime soon.
Really the food was very underwhelming. The service was so so, felt very much like a fancy hotel restaurant that you go to when your staying at the hotel, it did not have the feel or follow through of a great restaurant. Super bummed to have bad tartare, I usually love tartare. The only thing delicious about the meal were the truffle fries, the straps were by my standards very tough.
My husband and I each had different entrees and neither one was VERY good. He had the salmon, which had a fishy taste to it. We have grilled salmon at home regularly and it never has a fishy taste. I had the rotisserie chicken which was dry and kind of tasteless. For the money we spent, I was expecting a much better meal. Aside from the food, the service and restaurant itself was good.
Good, classic French bistro food.
Wonderful experience in every way! The food was perfectly prepared, drinks were delightful, service was top-notch...the chef even visited our table!
Thank you for joining us, Diane! We are happy to hear you enjoyed your lunch at six.one.six and hope to serve you again in the near future. -six.one.six Management
Food wasn’t very good especially for the price. Way overpriced! Service was not good at all... several times we had to flag down a different server for help. I was very very disappointed especially because I planned this amazing date evening for my husband and honestly I feel like it was a wasted dinner date and a huge waste of time and money. Would not recommend to anyone! In fact a friend asked me the next day how it was and if they should try it out and I said absolutely not!
