Excellent food! Loved the menu. Took my family there to celebrate Mother's Day to enjoy Sunday brunch. Everyone really had a good time and commented how much they enjoyed the meal.
There was only one thing that all of us though was very odd and it was the fact that the tv was on the entire time during the brunch. It's one thing to see a tv in a bar area but this was a very nice, upscale ambiance so none of us appreciated having it on in the background. If it were not for the tv, I would have rated it a 5 star experience.
Tried the new menu for the first time and was not disappointed! My husband, cousin and I all enjoyed our entree. Amazing! Thank you for a delightful dinner!
Dinner for 2 on a Sunday evening was a very pleasant experience. Our server was personable and attentive. We selected an appetizer, salad, 2 pasta entrees and dessert . Everything was presented in a timely fashion The food presentation was attractive and it tasted delicious. We will return !
Easter Sunday occasion. A bit expensive but food and service made up for price.
My partner and I decided to visit Sister's before watching a play at the Barter. The menu items are extraordinarily overpriced, and the service is slow and unenthusiastic. I didn't finish my food because the noodles were over cooked to inedibility. Our desserts were the only items I didn't feel like I was getting ripped off on. The restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing, and the atmosphere is perfect for a romantic night out. It's a shame that such a beautiful restaurant fails to serve quality entrées. If you decide to visit, be sure to grab dessert because it was delicious.
We had a large group (8 people). Waiter was prompt and attentive. Food was excellent. The desserts were to die for.
The highlight of our visit was first the wonderful service and then the tasty meal. Great atmosphere. And did I mention the service was great!
Not a huge fan of the new menu smaller portion size for the price and a lot of fluff. Waitress was outstanding just disappointed in the price for quantity and quality of food. Miss old menu/chef
We were the only couple dining. Aside from 3 people at the bar, we were alone. Staff was very friendly. Menu is limited. Food is good. Prices are high.
Awful - when we requested a table away from the noise we got a huffy response that "we seat by sections" duh - you and every other place ever.
Then the 2 dollar up charge to go from mashed potatoes to basmati rice - they are both inexpensive plates fillers
We had a free glass of wine for everyone on tour party coupon - we were told "we aren't taking those anymore" really nice breach of promise - so for your 2 eight dollar glasses of wine you lost a regular (monthly) customer who drops at least 150 each time
Awesome night manager Britt and server Courtney
We were seated, and then they forgot about us. We watched 4 other tables get seated, order their drinks, and even order their food before I finally waved down a server. They had just forgotten about us. The meal was fine, the service, once we had it, was fair, and the restaurant is overall a nice quiet place.
We were celebrating our anniversary. We were disappointed in the service and food. The restaurant does not meet the standards of the rest of Martha Washington Inn.
Five star rating in all categories ! Just like last year ! Great service, menu and ambience.
Couldn't have been better. Will surely be back in 2018 !!!!
Loved it and cant wait to go back, best hamburgers and fries I have ever had!
A little disappointing. We were a party of four seated at a round table that was better suited for six or more. Very hard to have a conversation. My steak was over cooked and not very tender. Definitely not worth what I paid. The server apologized and offered to bring me another one, or give me a free dessert. The crowd at the bar was a rowdy while watching a football game and yelling obscenities. It made the patrons in the restaurant a little uncomfortable.
It is a bit pricey, but Sisters never fails to impress. The service, food, and ambience are spectacular.
I was disappointed by the "uneveness" of our Thanksgiving dinner. Shrimp served without shrimp forks, gravy that was heavy and unappetizing. The cranberry sauce looked to be out of a can rather than freshly made. The vegetables, however, were quite good especially the succotash. The turkey was nicely done, but the prime rib was lacking flavor and juices.
Our waiters were attentive - service was good.
Went to Sisters while on weekend getaway. food was delicious, loved the potato soup. Nice and cozy atmosphere by the fireplace.
My wife and I had a meal here before going to a play. The food was good and the room was great for two couples to have a conversation over dinner.
A lovely setting, delicious food, and excellent service. Our family group of 6 was seating at a comfortable round table and given much attention by our waitress. We all enjoyed our meals and the wine suggested by the waitress.
This was a post-theater meal after a matinee performance. We had eaten a large lunch earlier in the day and therefore just had soup and salad forgoing any entrees (though the entree options were very appealing). We both had the crab bisque which was quite good and incorporated a good serving of the crab. Both of our salads (a wedge & a mixed kale) were also good though the blackberries included in the kale mix were quite seedy. The pumpkin cheesecake we shared (made by a local Abingdon bakery...Anthony's) was also good. Since few other local restaurants are open on a Sunday evening, Sisters was rather busy & that may have slowed the service a bit, but it is definitely worth a visit.
Our meal took over two hours to be served, causing us to be late for a play. I would recommend you allow plenty of extra time to eat and be served, or go on a night when you do not have any other plans. Our food was great; it was just a very long wait to get it. We did not order anything out of the ordinary or requiring extra preparation. The acting manager tried to help by offering an extra round of drinks, but didn't seem to have much authority to do anything else to make it right, which further frustrated several members of our party. Also, signage out front for the restaurant entrance would be helpful, since it is in the hotel, to avoid having dinner guests walk through the hotel looking for it.
We liked the crab bisque and loved the pork osso bucco with root vegetables which is large enough for two people. Ambiance is very casual.
Great place to go before the Barter Theater. Excellent food, service is exceptional, atmosphere is perfect.
If you're going to a performance at the Barter Theater, this is where you want to go. It's not cheap, but it is excellent in every way. Plus, after dinner the theater is only a very short walk.
Don't skip dessert.
Beautiful. Full of history. Great food and service. Great location.
The restaurant was amazing, the service was great, and the food was wonderful and well-prepared. If we had a complaint, it would be that we would have wanted more or the specialty: the deviled eggs of the day. For two people, we only got to enjoy one each and then there was a third to split. We felt like this should be an even number for a party of even numbers. Other than that, everything was exceptional.
Excellent meal! I had the bacon/horseradish encrusted salmon w/Rosseto
and grilled root vegetables! Yummy! My husband had steak and said it was perfect. I would not hesitate to splurge on dinner at Sisters. Also quite a few lower priced meals that looked delicious as well.
This was a wonder choice to celebrate our 36th Anniversary.
The food at the Sisters restaurant was some of the best my wife and I have had in sesveral years. the Beef and Lamb chops were both excellent, veggies and potatoes great, even the bread was awesome ! For dessert the Creme Brule' was great! Service was very good and everyone was very friendly.
My husband and I had a long work week and wanted to go out for a delicious meal and enjoy spending some quality time together. The food was delicious, as always! While we were there we ran into our friends and were able to chat with them as well. Great evening, great food, great ambiance!
Very good food and great service, Courtney was awesome. The only problem I had with the experience was the menu was totally different at the restaurant than the one listed on Trip Advisor, therefore the prices were much higher than anticipated.
I was entertaining visitors who I knew had discriminating tastes. Though it was a 70-mile drive, I had heard great things about Sisters, so I selected Barter Theatre and Sisters for our special outing. I was not disappointed! Nice ambience, quiet dining and delicious food. It was early, after the theater matinee, so we ordered only salads and crab bisque, so I cannot comment on the entrees (The crab bisque was outstanding, a generous portion, and the very large salads were very fresh). Our server was knowledgeable about the food and also the history of the Martha Washington Hotel. I would recommend Sisters at the Martha to anyone looking for a special dinner.
We enjoyed our evening at The Sisters. We often travel through Abingdon on our way south, and we always found the Martha Washington Hotel to be a fascinating fixture of the town. Evan, our waiter, was delightful and provided us with great service and great wit! The only disappointment was with ordering the roasted chicken...which turned out to be three small, not very juicy chicken breasts/tenders. However, the vegetables were amazing, and my husband said the Sisters' hamburger was excellent. Overall, it was a great relaxing evening.
We met our daughter there for a birthday dinner for her. My husband had lamb, perfectly cooked. He said the crab bisque was exquisite and the best he had tasted in his life thus far (he's 80). My daughter and I enjoyed the shitake mushroom appetizer, the kale salad, and the salmon entrée -- split. My husband had peach ice cream and she had bread pudding and I had a chocolate cream brulee. Taste of heaven. We liked it so much for her birthday night we returned the next night prior to the theatre. My husband had crab bisque and lamb; my daughter and I repeated our menu of the previous evening (split between us) sans dessert. Lovely surroundings, excellent waiter (Friday); waitress (Saturday) and we will enjoy this all again some day when we are in Abingdon again. I missed their tablecloths on the tables.
The setting in the historic Martha Washington Inn was the most memorable part of the evening. Huge portion of salmon, well cooked.
Sisters at The Martha is a great place to dine pre theatre. The food choices are adequate whether you want a few small bites or an entire meal. Their wine list is not lengthy but does have enough choices to satisfy most diners.
We went to Sisters right after theater on Sunday. While they were very busy I felt we got good service and the food was good.
Can't wait to return!! This was chosen because it was in walking distance of the bed and breakfast - - what a memorable meal.
It was good to experience the historic atmosphere of the building, but the entrees are not that great and the food is overpriced.
The Food was great. Our server (David) was excellent.
