Sissy's Southern Kitchen & Bar - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
I was not able to dine at Sissy's because it is apparently closed for renovation. Open Table should have informed me of this, instead of thanking me for making a reservation...I drove all the way there to find out that the restaurant was closed. Further, Sissy's website should have some sort of message relating to this closure as well.
Disappointing. Party of 9 and first reservation on a Sunday. Waiter was essentially nonexistent. Took forever to greet table and take drink order then even longer to order food. Waiter seemed to disappear for long periods and did not refill drinks, ask if we needed anything, or replace silverware. We think he knew he was getting an automatic 20% tip for party size and did not need to service our table. Some entrees were cold (crab cakes) but had already waited over 1.5 hours for food. Others enjoyed their dishes. Will not return because of abysmal service.
It's a very cute restaurant and the food is good but not excellent and it was so noisy (we were seated on the enclosed patio) we had to yell to talk to each other. Service was fine considering it was very busy. I had been looking forward to trying the fried chicken and it was good -juicy and the breading had a good amount of spice. The waffle was very ordinary.
The food was okay for all of us, not particularly outstanding, however. Our reservation was for 11AM. We arrived at 11 and doors were locked then waited about 10 minutes to be seated. Service was terrible......food fairly slow in arriving, then had to seek out coffee refills, condiments, water refills and finally ask for our check. It was a fairly busy morning but not all the tables were full and no line to speak of. Probably will not be returning nor will my friends. Very disappointed.
Amazing service by our waitress, Miranda and the bartender. The hostess, on the other hand, forgot about us. We had a 730 reservation and were told they were cleaning a table off for us. We didn't get sat till 8 and that was after I went and complained to the hostess. She had completely forgotten about us. It would have been understandable if it was a crazy busy night but the restaurant was maybe 75% full tonight. Otherwise, all other parts were outstanding!!!
The fried chicken was as good as ever and am looking forward to the leftovers. Collard greens were really good as were mashed potatoes. Boudin balls perfect app. My only complaint was that the music was so loud you practically had to shout to be heard. Good music but obnoxiously loud. Lower the music and the ambiance would be better.
There was a table of young ladies who were extremely loud. So loud that you couldn't here yourself talk over them and Two tables asked to be moved.
I was very disappointed that the staff didn't say anything to them. The loudness put a damper on our evening with friends because we couldn't here.
Sissys is one of my favorite restaurants and my visit Friday night was the worst. Our server was not interested in being our server. The table next to us received food first even though they ordered after us, the two orders of cream biscuits never came I had to remind him of the biscuits his response was "they never came" no I'm sorry just an awful experience. We ordered two collard greens only one came. He checked on us twice and the second time was to pick up the check. This was my birthday celebration and our server killed the evening. I will be back but I will make sure he is not our server.
We made a reservation for brunch and arrived on time. However, half our group cancelled. The restaurant had no issues adjusting the reservation and table to accommodate us. We waited a very long time to get a server to help us but after I finally got someone's attention, the server was great! He stepped up and handled our table with attention and detail. I was disappointed that there was no chicken breast left for the chicken and waffles but I understand these things do happen on occassion. The food is good but overpriced in my opinion. All in all, pleasant experience.
Terrible experience all around. The restaurant was dirty, the food was completely bland and cold because it took so long for our waiter to bring it out. They got our drink order wrong.
The waiter never checked up on us - never got a refill on our drink even though we had asked several times. Had to ask four times to get our check and still didn't get it until we got up and found our waiter after sitting and waiting for 20 minutes to get the check.
There was nothing redeeming about this place.
We went to Sissy's for the first time last night and had a fantastic dinner. It was crazed when we got there - Open Table had messed up and double booked several tables. The owner, an awesome woman who later stopped by our table for a chat, was taking care of it personally. Our waiter kept us up to date on our food and checked in on us frequently, which impressed me because of the aforementioned craziness.
The food itself was delicious. The devilled eggs with curry were really good and a twist on a favorite. I don't eat fried food very often, but the 2 piece fried chicken dinner was totally worth the indulgence. Thick, super crispy breading with buttery, tender meat. My husband's chicken fried steak was great - it's his favorite dish, and he said this one was one of best he's had in Dallas. Our friends had the shrimp & grits with positive reviews and the pork chop, which was a massive double cut, juicy and yummy. So massive that he actually didn't join the rest of us in a piece of the Better Than Sex Chocolate Cake, which was pretty epic. A *large* piece of chocolate sheet cake topped with warm chocolate sauce, peanut butter sauce, and real cream. Another indulgence that was more than worth It!
We'll definitely be returning to sample the rest of the menu. For now, my suggestions are to make reservations for peak times and bring a big appetite so you can spoil yourself a little!
We went to Sissy s because we had made a reservation for Restaurant Week. We were very disappointed that it had dropped out of participation with no notification to reservation holders. It really is not special or enough without participation in a charity event. The menu is the same as when we last visited several years ago. Food and service were good, but no surprises.
We came to Sissy's for a team dinner after a trade show day. The bucket of fried chicken was perfect...I managed to get my favs, a leg and wing, so crispy and delicious. The grits, fried okra and mashed potatoes and gravy were all delish. Our server and bussers were all so nice and great service. If you're looking for southern comfort and a great atmosphere, this is it.
We had some of the best fried chicken I've tasted in a long time. The gumbo was good but more spicy than flavorful. The service was great because we got there before it opened. The environment is a re gentrified areas. The reason why we won't be going back is because there is not disabled parking nearby or in front of the building and considering this is a hip and happening area traffic get heavy and not a good way to treat those with disabilities. If one doesnt spend the money to valet park in this area, paid parking is very limited.
