Scott MacDonald was born in the small artistic community of Ojai. Compelled to anything musical, he quickly found that he could reproduce on the piano what he had heard, first melodies and then chords. Around age seven, he started coming up with simple compositions. In December of '79 at age 24, he recorded and performed his original works, traveling extensively throughout the US, Australia, the Pacific Islands, and Europe. He particularly developed a great fondness for ocean travel and has performed aboard many ships of all kinds. But, one ship stands alone in Scott's life. Since first coming aboard the RMS Queen Mary in 1973, the ship has played a pivotal role. He considers it a privilege to spend each Friday and Saturday aboard the Queen Mary, playing piano and singing in the renowned Sir Winston's Restaurant and Lounge from 6 pm until 10 pm.

It was my girlfriend's birthday and both the Hostess and our waiter made it very special for us. My steak was delicious and cooked exactly how I wanted it. I love that ship but this is the first time I actually ate there. Well worth it.

Exception service and made for a very memorable evening. If you wish to have a table with a review, ensure you specify in the opentable reservation otherwise even if a table is open you will not be permitted to relocate.

This is the second time I have eaten at Sir Winston's and was bragging to my family/friends about the Beef Wellington that I had thoroughly enjoyed the first time in March of 2017. I convinced them and they agreed to pay $50 for the meal and much to our dismay, we were all completely taken aback. It all started with the ridiculous length of time it took us to get a menu from our waiter and then was charged $11 for French Onion Soup that tasted and looked like old dishwater. Snowballing into the embarrassing realization that the Beef Wellington wasn't what I had boasted about and didn't meet the expectations. There was no side dish this time, due to the owner changing the menu and making side dishes $9 extra, which I was unaware of until the meat was in front of my face (I wish the waiter would have pointed that out prior...). I will not eat at this restaurant, if I stay at the Queen Mary again. Devastatingly disappointed.

Service was decent. Our view was of lifeboats that we’re falling apart. Food was hit or miss:
Oysters appetizer - oysters were from morro bay. They were very small and fishy. Oysters are usually milder. It’s a miss.
French onion soup - fine. Nothing special.
Chateaubriand - this was delicious. Perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. A great seer on the meat. One of the best. Accompanying veggies were also perfectly cooked.
Soufflé - this was terrible. No flavor. Huge egg white chunks. And crazy expensive. Do not order this.

We chose to dine at Sir Winston's rather than the Chelsea Chowder House to celebrate our stay aboard the Queen Mary which has been on my bucket list for many years. We were told that the sunset is beautiful which we didn't get to see due to the California coastline fog. The menu is short just the way I like it as menus which offer too many choices are overwhelming. I'd like to come back in the future to celebrate yet another special occasion.

I love this place it’s so amazing it never disappoints me every time I come. I do half to say I will never ever go back on st. Patrick’s Day the people out side where noisy and same goes for the people that came in to the bar extremely loud yelling at each other‘s friends with no regard to other people dinning on the ship. Very sad that adults half to act that way. Kind of almost ruined a very special night for me and my Girlfriend but all is okay.

This was the worst meal of my whole 2 week trip to HA and CA. While the service was friendly, and the drinks and raw oytsers fine; the entree of steak was tough as nails and covered in a gooey sauce and the french fries, which they call Potatoes Garfield (how precious is that), were the worst I have ever had. They were in the fashion of pomme frites, absent the frites. They were half raw/uncooked, greasy and not at all crispy as they should have been. All to the tume of well over $150 for the privilege. I thought this would be a wonderful place to eat on this lovely old ship where I was staying. Was I wrong. Stick with the Promenade Cafe (good breakfast) and the Observation Bar (beautiful and good drinks).

This restaurant is located aboard the Queen Mary, once the ultimate travel experience for the wealthy. It still retains much of its former charm. Come an hour early, stroll the decks and enjoy the superb view of the Long Beach skyline. It’s a long walk to the restaurant and up two flights of stairs, one of which is outdoors - not recommended in bad weather, impossible for wheel chairs.
The ambience is elegant – wood paneling, burgundy drapes, plush seating, low lighting, white table cloths, service plates and very quiet. No need to shout across the table to carry on a conversation. The menu features some classic dishes rarely seen in restaurants today, like Beef Wellington and Chateaubriand. However, the pricy, ala carte food was a mixed bag. The bacon wrapped, seared scallops were superb and perfectly cooked. Crab stuffed shrimp were huge and excellent. The rack of lamb was a loser – fatty, gristly and undercooked. The waiter removed it from our bill. Also, the oysters on the half shell were poor. Get much better oysters at Kings Fish House on Pine Avenue. For dessert, the Grand Marnier soufflé was wonderful but needs to be ordered half an hour in advance. A nice touch is a sorbet to cleanse the palate between courses and cholate dipped strawberries to finish.
This is a great restaurant for special occasions.

The ambiance and guest service is wonderful. The china is gorgeous and the space is absolutely beautiful. Our server and the staff were fantastic and very professional. However the food quality was extremely sub par, especially for the price. The escargot was less flavorful and tougher than any I've had before, even in cheap cafes. The frutti di mare was also the worst I've ever had--flavorless, watery, and I got a rash on my chest right after eating it. The souffle was terribly under cooked with thick, room-temp bechamel. Food quality wise, the best part of our meal was the warm bread served before we ordered.

My husband and I were married on the ship a year ago and wanted to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful waiter and the serving staff was attentive and very personable. The food was delicious albeit pricey so know you’re gonna drop a good chunk of change on dinner. The ambience was amazing but a little disappointing that there was no dress code; we got dressed up only to see diners in flannel and sweat pants. Although it didn’t ruin th experience, it’s just a shame given the history and glamour of the ship. Other than that, our experience was great and will probably be back in he future!

Both my husband and I ordered the Surf & Turf and the lobster was over cooked and tough. The filet minion was good but a little salty. The vanilla banana brûlée was good as well but the sugar was hardly caramelized. We just happen to go the restaurant because we were staying over night on the Queen Mary but it’s not a restaurant I would go back to.

Ambience is very relaxing. We ordered the mashed potatoes and they were overloaded with garlic. I ordered the crispy skin salmon and it was overly fishy. Not sure if it was fresh. Also we ordered the chocolate molten cake which had nothing molten inside .. I’m sure there are other things on the menu that are tasty. The food was just OK and the price was extreme for what was presented.

I was very hesitant to go because of how pricy everything was. I am so glad that I did, though! The food was practically a religious experience. My boyfriend savored every bite and we couldn’t help but laugh at how good everything was. The staff was professional and attentive yet kept their distance and didn’t breath down our neck. Our waiter was Tom and he was so incredibly wonderful to us. The food we had was Beef Tartare as an appetizer, my boyfriend ordered the salmon and mushrooms as a side, I ordered the beef Wellington and Yukon potatoes. Everything was amazing. I even looked for a cook book in the gift shop. We are already planning on going again for birthdays, anniversaries, everything. We already have money set aside for the next trip.

The Queen Mary is a beautiful old ship with a lot of history and is a must see if you are in Long Beach. Sir Winston's restaurant aboard ship offers a lovely view and ambiance. It is extremely pricey however so be prepared. While the food and service are very good I did not feel it was quite worth the exorbitant amount we paid for it.

One of the nicer high end restaurants that my wife and I enjoy going to for special occasions. Our server Benjamin was really attentive and helped us make some really good choices for appetizers. I also told Benjamin that today was my wife's birthday and I would like to get her something special for dessert. He said, "say no more, I will handle everything". He brought in a delicious slice of chocolate cake with a candle and the words happy birthday written on the plate in chocolate. Needless to say the experience was perfect.

Very disappointing! Soup was very salty, “surf and turf” lobster was over cooked and steak was salty. The chocolate soufflé desert was over cooked and tough. It was very expensive and very poor quality food. It as out First year Anniversary and we were very disappointed. The only thing that was a pleasent experience was walking around the Queen Mary.
I tend to give a second chance to restaurants Incase there was a “bad experience “ but for the price we paid they do not deserve a second chance!

John Landgraf

We started in the lounge featuring an incredibly talented pianist and equally skilled mixologist. Our waiter , David, was most gracious and lent to the incredible ambiance. He went out of his way to make sure our evening was perfect.

A small nuisance from a couple of ladies next to us who had clearly far too much to drink (loud lady from NY and an equally loud CA nurse) trying to nitpick, whine and bully their way into having a portion of their meal comped (very classy). Despite their best attempts to ruin our special evening, we shared an INCREDIBLE meal and David's hospitality saved our evening.

Things got off to a rocky start since our reservation was for 6:30 and upon arrival were told would just be a couple of minutes but we could go to the bar for a drink and they would find us. We saw them coming to get people for tables including people who arrived after us and at 7:15pm we finally went to check on the table. It was VERY clear they had forgotten us. Once seated there was no offer of a drink before dinner and the server said that he had to go in search of a wine list as they had disappeared! Meanwhile five minutes later the table next to us was seated and they were given a wine list with the menus. Fifteen minutes later we had to remind the server about the wine list!
However once things got back on track the service was good and the food was excellent. The Mushroom tart was exceptional, the escargot good if a little small and the chateaubriand was simply amazing and highly recommended. The chocolate soufflé was fine though wish we had tried something else.
There was an event in the room below with loud music which permeated into the restaurant but that was a one off thing and I would not hesitate to return as the food really was great.

After performing with the Scottish Fiddlers of Los Angeles for Scottishfest earlier in the day, my wife and I chose Sir Winston’s for our evening meal. While the restaurant was busy with all the extra people aboard ship for the festival, the wait staff provided efficient and friendly service. The pre-dinner cocktails were excellent. We ordered the Chateaubriand for two with a salad and it was well prepared, tasty, and satisfying. Our overall experience was quite enjoyable and we will definitely return soon for another great dining experience.
