Sir Winston's Aboard The Queen Mary
Came for my fifth anniversary with my wife and had an all around nice experience. I would describe Sir Winston's as a nice, classy restraint that's a touch dated and couldn't quite pull off the high restaurant experience it was going (and charging) for. On the plus side, the beef Wellington and chateaubriand were to die for, absolutely sumptuous. The vegetables and potatoes served with them were perfectly fine, but nothing to get excited about. Same for the appetizers.
The service was similarly good, if just a touch below ideal. I'd phoned ahead and requested a table by the window and that I was having flowers sent over, they were waiting on our table when we got there. Table service was competent, though the timing was off a bit.
I took my daughter there for dinner, the table next to us were necking all the time we were there so we were very uncomfortable. They could have put them in another area as there were only 3 tables in use.
The decor hasn't changed in years.
It is quiet pricy for what we got. I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend it.
This was a wonderful place for our anniversary!
From the restaurant manager to the hostess, bus people and the waiter, very responsive, acoomodating and pleasant. We enjoy many restaurants in its class and found this to be as fine if not better than the others. Only item that fell a bit short was the chocolate souffle, texture being somewhat off key. All other food items were excellent, prepared in a classic way and difficult to find these days. Highly recommend to those looking for a special evening with dinner and service not to disappoint.
Best beef wellington I have had so far. Would always come back here.
Beef Wellington was stupendous!!! so was the lobster bisque. What an elegant restaurant!
The food, service and surroundings were superb. Highly recommend for any special occasion.
We stayed on the Queen Mary for my boyfriend's birthday, and ate dinner at Sir Winston's. The food was delicious - we had the scallops with pumpkin risotto, and the New York strip steak. Both were delectable. They also surprised him with a birthday dessert, which was unexpected and very nice. It was a touch pricey, but definitely in line with what you'd expect to pay at a restaurant like this.
Sir Winston's is an amazing experience!
After reading past reviews I had some concerns from the few negative responses. As a foodie, I would like to put anyone's uncertainty to rest. The food was "wonderful"! Issues with seating, however, were founded. Making a reservation with a request for a certain view is ignored. On our 29th anniversary, with a reservation, we had to wait over 20 min. to be seated because they did not have a nice window table available. After such a wait, my husband and I approached the hostess and asked to seat us in the center. This location was very near the window and had a wonderful view. She should have suggested this rather than have us wait so long.
My husband and I were guests on Saturday evening, 9/17/11. Would we have dinner at Sir Winston's again? You bet! Atmosphere that warranted the "fancy dress and tie," friendly and professional service, and a dinner that left nothing to be desired. We left feeling we were the most important of guests and it's been a long time since that's happened.
Most amazing beef wellington ever!
A quiet and romantic dinner, very elegant and all that I expected.
Vastly improved over past dining experiences at the Sir Winston Room, BOTH in terms of food and service. 'Have actually avoided this eatery of late because of mediocre experience(s) so it's been probably over a year since dining here but our daughter just got engaged and her fiance had never visited Long Beach so wanted to do something "unique" and the SWR is, in our opinion, a unique dining environment.
Had a wonderful experience from hostess to all waitstaff.Felt like we wold see royalty around the next bend. Food was wonderful, especially the Ahi-tuna. We'll be back!! We are from Chicago but will stay here again.
Many of the newer restaurants take shortcuts, don't really understand what service is and rush you. Sir Winston's is a great "old school" dining experience that we will always remember. Everything was done to perfection. The menu was traditional, the food was prepared in a classical manner and the wait staff truly understood how to treat someone with respect. VERY refreshing! We spend $300 on wine and dinner for four people but it felt like we received a $1,200 meal! We'll be back next time we're in town.
Sir Winston's is a top notch restaurant aboard the Queen Mary offering an impressive array of surf and turf that is fantastic and nothing short of amazing. Bacon wrapped scallops, the best lobster bisque I have have ever had, and grilled shrimp stuffed with crab and lobster rounded out our romantic 1-year anniversary dinner, complete with some great wine and a very romantic atmosphere. Highly Recommend you visit this restaurant.
Food and service were excellent.
We've been to Sir Winstons many times and loved it. Unfortunately this time we were disappointed. Even with a reservation 3 weeks to a month ahead of time we were sat right next to the entrance with all the clatter of people comining in and going out, including loud disappointed people who'd lost their reservations because they were late and people arguing with the Maitre di (sp?) because they were trying to get in without reservations....etc, etc. In their defense they were very busy, but that table was inexcusable and soured our evening. The service was good, but very slow and at times inattentive. The food was sub par to what they've offered in the past. What was served was good, just not as good as the past.
We are quite thrifty about our dining out. But it was our 50th anniversary week, and although we had just returned from a tour, I wanted something romantic that evening. Most "romantic" restaurants I found listed were pricey -- with luxurious indoor ambiance. When I saw Sir Winston's on the Queen Mary, I knew that we would have a beautiful view that would make the price worth it. We went quite early, so we were practically the only ones there. We enjoyed the sweep of the coast, watched the boats below, and eventually the lights coming on across the bay. The service was excellent, the cuisine exquisite, a wonderful special-occasion experience!
This was our first use of Open Table and so we enjoyed being expected for dinner.
We were staying on the Queen Mary at the beginning of a Great Rail tour (LA to New York) and this meal was a family occasion with guests who live in LA. The food and service were very good and the ship environment superb. This is a great restaurant for a special occasion.
(But we didn't get any dining points).
We were very disappointed in our dining experience at Sir Winston's. The restaurant was not busy - and after making reservations several months in advance, we were seated at a table with a great view of the canopy. My husband asked to be moved and they were very accommodating. When I made the reservation months ago-I indicated that I had celiac disease - and wondered if a chef could suggest something safe for me to eat. I was assured this would be no problem. When I mentioned it upon arrival - the waiter didn't have a clue. Needless to say - it was not a safe meal. The waiter is the first line of defense in a restaurant - and the only person I can converse with. NOT a good experience. I wouldn't recommend Sir Winston's!
Memorable experience, would return!
me and my wife loved it just @ first the service was not to good didn't get the table i reserved and the guy was rude but the food was excelent and it felt like home cozy and quiet we will defenetly go back hopefuly we are greeted more freindly next time thanks
First of all, we got there around 6:30 and we order our food right away, because we were hungry. It took them 1 hour and 15 minutes to bring our food. it was 7:45 when they brought our food. We weren't even hungry when they brought our food. We ate so much those bread. I am very disapointed! I won't recommend anyone! On the other hand the view was perfect!
Just a wonderful venue and the food and service were impeccable! We will definitely return!
I had my Fiance's Birthday Celebration there. I had made a previous reservation for a party of 8. I emailed the restaurant and asked them if they could do something special since it was his birthday. We arrived early and our table was set up already. The ambiance was amazing! The view was breathtaking! The service was amazing! Our server was amazing! and the food was outstanding! I had the beef wellington and most of the table had the new york steak. Both cuts of meat melted in your mouth. We ordered the chocolate soufle which our server instructed us to place the order 30 minutes in advance. It was amazing! And at the end Drew provided a piece of cake with a candle!
Overall we really enjoyed are evening and would definately return again!
I try to go to Sir Winston's every year for my anniversary. I love the restaurant, and I love the Queen Mary. The food is the best I have ever had while dining out. My husband and I have been eating our anniversary dinners there for about ten years. I have no plans of changing my preference.
Never have I been to a restaurant that was as exquisite as it was efficient. Our servers were exceptional and friendly. The food was so good, I had to try the dessert. This is a restaurant was worth every penny.
Beautiful setting, good food but with 3 'dedicated' servers it still took 15 minutes to get an aperitif . If you are dining as a family (teenage children) you'll be hidden away next to the kitchen with a view of the docks.
Definitely a great find! The food was outstanding - a real surprise given the location. Generally gimmicky places are fun but the food tends to be unmemorable. Not this place! the food was excellent, the wait staff wonderful and killer views.
Sir Winston's had a great view of Long Beach, great food, and great service. Not much more you could ask for. Had a great anniversary dinner and they went the extra mile to make it special.
The food was expensive which was expected but it took 2.5 hours from beginning to end. It took over an hour to get our food. And when we finally received it, it was warm not hot and bland. The presentation was lovely and the staff was very nice. We were told to dress in slacks and a tie yet when we arrived there were people wearing flip flops. They set the expectation way too high.
Found this Gem and look forward to our next visit. Though the cost is on the higher end, I would say this is well worth it! I see a five start formal restaurant in a unique location.
Very nice ambience, excellent but unobtrusive service, offbeat but appetizing menu. The menu included a vegetarian dish, which I appreciated. Please note that the portions are relatively modest, so big eaters could be disappointed. I would consider this a must for anybody spending a night on the Queem Mary, and a good choice for special occasions for residents of the Long Beach area.
The view of the Long Beach skyline from the restaurant is incredible.
Sir Winston’s is great; the food is excellence, service fantastic, and the view of Long Beach was exactly what I asked for. Needless to say, it was the romantic evening I was hoping for. I recommend Winston’s to anyone looking for a dining experience.
Celebrating a birthday. Running a little late due to traffic, but staff was very accommodating. Had wonderful appetizers (bacon scallops and lobster ravioli). Enjoyed a sharp Caesars and beef wellington. Waiting was prompt and knew when to cut in, letting our group to enjoy the party. Also seemed knowledgeable about some of the ships history. Treated to wonderful desserts and a fine evening had aboard the Queen Mary. Sir Winston's did the trick.
My wife and I visited the Sir Winston’s aboard the Queen Mary on our honeymoon and it was exquisite. Best meal and dinning experience we had during our entire stay in California. Thank you! JK
If you want extraordinary food and service this is the place.
