Sir Winston's Aboard The Queen Mary Ratings and Reviews
We came for a group business outing while we were attending a convention in Long Beach. Overall the restaurant was good, but make sure you have plenty of time. The meal was about three hours. We didn’t get presented dinner menus until well after the wine was served. Food was satisfactory, not particularly outstanding. The duck was pretty salty, but good overall. The escargot was okay, but needed more seasoning. Food was like warm when it arrived.
It was 30 years ago since our last visit. You didn't disappoint! The food is still excellent, the service (waiter's name: Tom) was the very best. The black truffle sauce made us [almost] forget how good the béarnaise sauce is. Wine was excellent. Desert perfect.
We will not wait 30 years to return, promise.
Parking was a problem, although this appears to be a temporary issue.
I asked the server whether I should order the fish or the New York bone-in steak. He recommended the steak. This was possibly the worst steak I have ever been served in a restaurant. It was tough and had more fat than meat. It was quite a mission trying to cut through the incredible amount of fat and finding the meat to eat. I spoke to the manager and he told me that I ate too much of the steak to have it eliminated from the check. He gave me a 10% discount and free dessert. It is a shame that such a highly rated restaurant would serve such a substandard meal.
We really enjoyed the friendly service, historical atmosphere, tasty food and elegance of the spacious area. It wouldn’t be my choice for pre theater as the courses are served slowly. It was nice to not be crunched in with tables so close, no loud music and not to feel rushed through our meal. It was $$$$$$ but worth it at least one time to experience a by gone era of relaxed elegance.
I was a little disappointed in the overall menu. My wife spoke of this place from many years ago and we were challenged what to select on the night of her birthday. We ended up having the Chateau for two and although very good and well prepared and served it was missing something.
We also arrived 15 minutes before our reservation and were keep waiting for our dinner reservations longer than we felt was appropriate. Maybe just an off night?
Dinner at the Sir Winston was wonderful. My boyfriend and I were there to celebrate our anniversary and we were not disappointed. The ambiance was romantic, the cuisine was amazing from the appetizers to dinner. And our waiter Benjamin was very attentive and friendly. If you want a quiet, romantic restaurant with excellent food, I recommend Sir Winston's. You will not be disappointed.
My date enjoyed his meal and the service, ambiance and food were wonderful.
I am vegan, so they created a meal for me, which was very good - not "spectacular" but very good. I have had spectacular vegan meals of their creation before so I know it can happen, but this last trip was not that time.
Also: vegan dessert. at least one option!
Other than that, I love this place, it was amazing for a special occasion dinner, and my date was quite pleased.
We had a lovely time at Sir Winston’s for our anniversary. Service was attentive, but not overbearing. I had French Onion soup and my husband had Lobster Salad which were both delicious. We had Chateubriand for two and it was so good. They brought us a slice of Red Velvet Cake and chocolate covered strawberries to help us celebrate our anniversary which made our experience more special.
I chose this evening to propose, and it could not have been a better choice. The staff was aware of my plan, and was just wonderful to us. They even had a "Congratulations" dessert plate served to us (after I received a YES)! We spent the night on the QM in a lovely King Harbor-View room. A very special evening thanks to the beautiful QM and its outstanding staff.
As always, Sir Winston's provided a unique dining experience in terms of atmosphere and cuisine. The service was excellent and the food tasty. Given the location, it is not something that can be replicated elsewhere. They made the two birthdays at our table a very special occasion.
The staff are masters at serving, the kitchen a wiz at adjusting, and the view was spectacular. I have difficulty dining out as I have unusual allergies, pepper being the one that usually causes glitches, the staff and kitchen were wonderful with adjusting, all of our meals were just outstanding.
I have been here now 4 times and each time I've come it's been amazing service, food and atmosphere. The food is high class but so tasteful. Every time I go all the staff is so kind and respectful. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy a little high class on a ship with a wonder warm environment.
I've now dined at Sir Winston's four times, the most recent being the night after my wedding. The Queen Mary has long been a very special place for me, and I can not say enough about the entire experience to do it justice. Every course and cocktail was consistently impeccable, with service to match. I will be back, again and again.
