Sip Restaurant - Issaquah Ratings and Reviews
My friend and I visit Sip about once a month as a middle meeting ground for staying in touch with one another. We especially like going on Wednesdays since it's half-price bottled wine night and with Sip's impressive wine selection, it's always an adventure to try a new wine. Service is always attentive but unobtrusive, and the owner/manager usually stops by to chat briefly. With each visit, it feels more and more like the place where 'everybody knows your name' :-).
The only downside to this last visit was our dessert, which was a pear-apple cobbler topped with vanilla ice cream. The cobbler itself was really more like a piece of pie and its crust was as hard & tasteless as cardboard. The filling was good, but scarce...thank goodness for the generous & delicious scoop of ice cream that topped it.
I emphasize this was an anomalous occurrence in all the time I've patronized this restaurant, so please take the info into account accordingly.
Looking forward to our next visit, which will be our holiday get-together. See you there!
This is a restaurant that could be super good, but it misses on a few key points. When we got our final bill, we noticed that there was a 3% surcharge added to the total. What?? When asked, the waitress said the owner does that instead of raising the price of meals. I find that sneaky and deceptive and have never seen that at a restaurant before. Probably most people don't even notice it, which is I'm sure what he's hoping for. Really not cool. Just be transparent and put the real prices on your menu, bud. There is an extensive wine list but no one could manage to find the type of wine we were looking for on their digital wine list. The sommelier seemed lost. Very very talkative but not much knowledge of wines offered there or how to find them. She spent way too long at our table being not helpful. The one she finally recommended for a hundred bucks was a disappointment. On the positive side, the place has a nice atmosphere and the food is quite good. We had a great manhattan at the bar before dinner and the bartenders were amicable and skilled at their craft, if it can be called that. The fireplace is nice and we will go back and eat at the bar next time.
This place is in the neighborhood and is normally pretty reliable. For whatever reason our Monday evening visit was a bit discombobulated. The mixed drinks were made wrong and needed to be replaced and the wait staff was harried and quite probably understaffed. The food was pretty good as usual, perhaps just an off night. We've been there many times and usually have a great time, so I'm sure we'll be back.
We really like Sip. This time we sat outside. It was a very nice evening. The salads were great. My Tagliatelle was perfect and I asked for it not to be spicy. My wife loved the crab cakes. The server was very pleasant and professional. The wine list is great. We needed a carafe to let the 2010 Reninger Merlot to breathe. But it opened uo nicely. My only disappointment was the size if the creme brulee. It barely filled the bowl. Otherwise we will go back.
The service and atmospheric were great. Exceptional wine options that are a great value. Noise level has improved since first opening. The downside was the food. The Cesar Salad was dry. The romane had not been trained at the base and was browning.
The steak Cabobs were tough to chew. The steamed clams were either overlooked or not fresh. The sliders lacked inspiration and had no pop! The truffle popcorn was the best we have ever had. Great wine options and value.
I haven't been to Sip in two years, despite the fact I live in the area. After this visit, I remember why. The food is usually good, though a little expensive. The service is absolutely horrible. Example: Someone from the bar came over with an iPad containing the wine list, and told me the wine I'd ordered was not available. Instead of suggesting something else, he just looked at me, put the iPad down on the table, and walked away!
Our server made all of us feel uncomfortable. She would walk up to the table, stand behind me and say nothing.
I also very much dislike the 3% surcharge added to the bill. I wouldn't go back, if just for that reason. All this charge does is result in people leaving less tips for the server.
Can't recommend Sip. Decent food, but bad service. Just not worth the money. I won't go back.
Good wine, friendly staff, but 18 minute wait for your wine order by glass to arrive is too much. Considering the place was half empty and it was Tuesday evening. Also, food was good and wine was excellent and restaurant interior is way-way better than usual American diner like standards.
Just wish drinks services was faster and not when we finished our cheese appetizer platter. it was my wife's birthday after all and we were anxious to raise a toast in her honor.
We have been to sip several times over the last few years and the last couple of times, the food hasn't wowed us. We prefer the menus of a couple of years ago that highlighted fresh, flavorful, in season produce. This time, service was not attentive, either. Wine was great, however.
This rating is just for the Easter brunch. I had been here before and was always pleased until Easter brunch. The food was average. The price did not include complimentary mimosas or champagne for this special occasion., as experienced at other restaurants. I did not get my money's worth at this brunch. I wouldn't recommend for this event, but for dinner.
The food was delicious. The service was lacking. I booked a dinner reservation, upon arriving at the restaurant I was informed they were no longer serving dinner. Please keep in mind this was my wedding anniversary dinner. They had run out of several items on the small plate menu. They had run out of several desert items, we were informed they did have ice cream and donuts. Then we attempted to order donuts, we were informed the guests at the table next to us had ordered the last one.
We then attempted to order pistachio ice cream. Which was gritty and not tasty, I requested to switch it to vanilla. Which had been a option, after several minutes the server returns to say "they couldn't find it I guess we're out".
Then to top it off, I realize after leaving I was charged the full price for "small plate" items, when small plate items were on Happy Hour special at $3 off. The server never mentioned Happy Hour special or whether you needed or not to be seated in the bar. But the restaurant was only serving small plates at that point. Furthermore, I asked the server if they had a happy hour, she didn't know when it started or ended. She then returned with a nonsense answer. So needless to say this wasn't the finest dining experience we've had.
I went to Sip for my 10 year anniversary dinner. No one asked if we were celebrating anything, the server had zero personality and almost all of the entrees had pork in them which I don't eat. I also recall that we used to get bread/crackers and homemade butter in the past but I guess that is no longer part of the experience.
I took out of town guests who were very impressed with the excellent food, wine , service and music. Very accommodating and friendly staff to move us closer to see the musician as we ate. A wonderful experience. It was a little noisy, not from the music but just level of noise in general.
We went in for a send-off dinner for a friend leaving town. The service was good, but not hovering, minimal interruptions of our conversation. They have great wine selection, although they were out of my first two choices of red, which is odd for a wine bar. We ordered a mix of food off both the standard menu and the nightly specials. Everything was tasty and fresh.
Insanely overpriced for what you get. I ordered the crab cakeS (plural). Within the description of the dish, pork belly was mentioned. When the dish arrived, A crab cake (singular) was on the plate along with a rather large piece of pork belly consuming the plate. I had asked the waitress when I ordered what would be a good wine pairing with that dish, and she said there were none identified. I guess sommeliers are still debating about which grape pairs best with large hunks of fat.
Nice decorations for Valentine's Day that gave a great festive feel . Restaurant itself was packed and the noise level high. Ambience was energetic but not romantic. Child crying at the next table, etc. Had to wait more than 15 minutes for a reserved table. Some food items were very salty. Staff were attentive and friendly. Overall, had a good time.
This was dinner on Valentines Day. When I made the reservation I had to provide a credit card number, which I didn't like but understood, given the day. Checked in and was told that it would be 20-30 minutes until we could be seated. So much for the reservation. Service was atrocious. None of our items arrived together, with long waits in between. Food was OK, but the special Valentine's Menu was essentially three appetizers. Last time we go there.
For the expense, the salads could certainly use some spicing up......very bland. The main entree was ok but not great. The wine again was fair but not as good as expected for the cost. The waitress was nice but service in general was very slow.....never saw her for long periods of time.....especially when we wanted to get her attention. The atmosphere was nice however and the manager seemed very friendly.
