Sinigual - NY Ratings and Reviews
Food was great and good serving size but service was very poor. The front of house showed little to no enthusiasm and meandered us to the table. Waiter started off ok by introducing himself etc then went downhill from there. Ordered guacamole and dips which was messy but was not given a napkin, then for mains we had to ask for cutlery after a few minutes of looking around for someone. Is a shame the poor service let the good food down
No one likes deception, especially when it comes to dining. So when you see a scoop of guacamole on the plate, one would assumed that 100% of the scoop would be guac but alas, 80% bottom part is in fact a bed of lettuce. And that's only the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended).
We were seated reasonably quickly. Waiter comes by with menus and right off the bat suggests we order the steak nachos. So we thought, 'Wow, it must be that good if he really goes for it'. Thus, began the deception mentioned above. 14$ for a plate of nachos? Must be pretty good right? Imagine our surprise when he plops down a plate of 8 chips. 8 chips! That's a $1.75 PER chip and no, the ingredients on top did not add that amount of value. Plus, the included scoop of guacamole, as mentioned above, would be more accurately described as a scoop of lettuce with some guac topping. This was obviously the moneymaker for the restaurant and why the waiter wanted us so badly to order.
Oh, and also unlike most Mexican restaurants I know/go to, there were no complimentary chips and salsa. We would have to order the 15$ guacamole appetizer if we wanted them, we were tersely informed by the waiter. Instead, we received 4 tortillas that came with 2 salsas and some sort of lime butter. No refills. Even though the entries took about 45 minutes to come out after our sad nachos and the waiter came by to refill our waters a couple of times, he just simply removed the tortilla holder.
Finally entrees arrived. Nothing to write home about. Lobster quesadillas barely had any lobster. Chicken Taquitos were fine. Neither were really worth their respective prices (22 and 17).
All in all, the food is fine, service leaves much to be desired, but you really aren't getting your money worth for the amount that they are charging.
I have been to Sinigual many times but this will be the last. It took us nearly an hour to get our food. Our waiter was nowhere to be seen half the time, and even when he did appear would run past our table without looking up. There was a big table next to us so we were initially understanding but this was beyond a joke. The last straw came when I felt myself getting bitten on the leg. I mentioned it as I was leaving, and showed them 3 bites and the manager said "how do you know it happened here" (er, because I felt myself being bitten) and suggested I "might have brought in bugs in my purse". I don't think it constitutes a acceptable reaction or attitude to insult your customers when they are politely alerting you to a situation in your restaurant. (Just to be clear I wasn't asking for anything in compensation or anything, I was simply letting them know.) Well, apparently they'd rather level preposterous accusations at their customers and effectively call them liars rather than address the actual issue. OK.
They provide a fresh take on Mexican food. You can traditional items as well as a wide assortment of choices with "Mexican flare" but a healthier, fresh alternative. The atmosphere gives you the feeling of Mexican style but with a classy overlay. There's a good selection of "small bites" as well as salads and full entrees. The bar is a good after-work meeting place as well as the dining room.
My husband and I dined here the last night of our NYC vacation. The reason we chose it was it's close proximity to our hotel. We really enjoyed our experience there. Our server was very helpful and gracious and the food was very good. We really enjoyed the guacamole made table side and the fresh made chips and tortillas. Our margaritas were wonderful. Overall a great experience.
The service was spectacular! My family and I were running late and they kept the kitchen open to service us. They were able to accommodate every request we asked and still provide us with great service.
Would totally dine at Sinigual again! I always appreciate great service!
This place is close to my office and the people on my team love it. Normally it is mediocre w/ good service. this time it was 100% TERRIBLE. I had the taco w/carnitas and it was pretty much all fat and gristle. The service was slow and the guacamole wasn't even made tableside as it has been in the past.
We go to Sinigual every time we're in the nabe (once of twice monthly) because it never disappoints. Our server Aliona was very attentive and friendly despite a busy night. We always start off with one or two margaritas each, which are potent and good. Steak nachos followed which are crunchy/cheesy with lots of tender beef. My hubby usually gets Tres Mariachis as an entree which is a great sampler of tacos and enchiladas, and I go for the fish special (which you have to ask for as it's not on the menu). Very ample portions. The decor at Sinigual is beautiful and there's plenty of legroom in the comfy booths. We can't wait to return to Sinigual and hope to get Aliona as our server again!
I've been coming to Siniqual for about 7 years and love the food and the friendly service. So today at lunch I was a bit disturbed when I found a rather long hair in my salad. The server quickly removed the salad and brought a replacement. The manager kindly came over and apologized. While I'm not one to look for freebies or to make a mountain out if a mole hill, there was no offer to comp the salad or even a discount on the bill.
This restaurant has gone down hill. It is no longer my favorite place. No specials were offered and the menu is tired. Our server did not have any spirit. There was no "Welcome to Sinigual. How can I make this a great evening for you?" Jason was dry and sounded like a robot. His job was perfunctory to say the least. He did his job but the experience was not fun and awkward. We spent $280 and it was not worth it. Sinigual needs an internal and external makeover.
The food was all good with some novel takes on the usual dishes. The freshly made guacamole was very good and was probably everyone's favorite item. We tried some of the non-alcoholic drinks. The cucumber-ginger agua fresca was a hit! The shrimp was salad was big and fresh. The fish tacos were pretty good but arrived cold. It does get pretty loud so you might find yourself shouting during lunch. But overall it was a good experience and the group enjoyed it.
