Sinigual - NY Ratings and Reviews
My friends and I have had lunch here on previous occasions and keep coming back for the ambiance and food. The staff were very courteous, as usual; however, the wait for placing our order was unusually long. The entre was good; but we were disappointed with the dessert (tres helados) which was quite soft. Overall not a bad experience though. Would recommend and return.
Overall, the food was excellent - However, the tortillas that came with the chicken fajitas were very greasy and inedible. The service needs to improve greatly - it was very slow and we almost started to walk out because they were not coming back with our check. When the waitstaff did come by everyone was very friendly and helpful, I think they were understaffed that day - hopefully it is not an every day issue.
The place is over loud. We had to send our drinks back after asking for tart Margueritas and both arriving super sweet. The Guacamole is made tableside but was not well seasoned. The Fish Taco was horrid! Two stale 6" spinish tortillas wrapped around two tiny chunks of fish. The beans and rice were cold. My friend had steak/shrimp fajitas and sent half of the platter back. This place is owned by the Chevy's chain and is supposed to be a step above--but it isn't.
Food and service are just ok. What really irked us was that we ordered tableside guac - for $16. The server brought a bowl of guac and very small basket of chips (four in our party) - my husband said " the guac is supposed to be made table side " The server replied "I just made this fresh for you"
We replied that what wanted the whole table side prep experience. Quickly a man with a cart came and made it tableside (it was relish by the way! We knew that right before we arrived they were cleaning up a buffet from large party and guac was on the buffet. We felt the server was trying to give us the premodern guac from this buffet. That's just not ok.
Overall the food was average and so was the service. We were never offered more chips to finish the guac (we finished it without chips though!) and our eater glasses were not filled unless we asked - but she made sure she kept asking those who drank beer if they needed another drink - while she was at the table she didn't clear dishes or refill glasses. Just not good service. We won't go back.
Also - a manager never came to see how everything was or I works have told him the same I wrote above.
I ONLY made dinner reservations after I saw a picture of fried ice cream on Yelp. The waiter confirmed my choice of the ice cream for dessert when he inhaled sharply and pinched his fingers motioning to me that it was really good. And, oh goodness, it was. Plus with a little bit of Patron poured on top? Heaven. My entreé was s combination plate of lobster taco, rice, beef taquito, and refried beans. SO YUMMY! Fairly generous portion so I took some PLUS I needed room for my ice cream. Prices are reasonable for the portions. Restaurant is beautifully but simply decorated. Dinner din was reasonable. I will re-visit.
I'm a fan of El Torito Grille in CA and heard that this is a sister property so I wanted to check it out. Unfortunately it was a disappointment. The best part was the host who was extremely friendly and nice, after him we had a not very friendly waiter who seemed annoyed at everything. They don't have people walking around with water and trying to get anyone's attention is hard so if you need anything, good luck. I don't think I'll be back just cause it was so loud and service wasn't great.
