Sinigual - NY Ratings and Reviews
Arrived at 7pm and table was not ready. Had a drink at crowded bar and stood with friends trying to make conversation and not be in the way of traffic. Checked on table 10 min later and was offered a table in very back of restaurant in dark corner. We refused table and waited another 10-15 minutes for someone else to leave. Finally received 7pm table around 7:30pn, and had pesky waiter asking for food order immediately. We ordered another round of drinks. Waiter comes back not even 2 minutes later for food order. We ordered Guacamole for table and waiter offered suggestions as if we didn’t order enough. . I told him we were building our appetite and will be placing big order for mains, but give us some time to enjoy our drinks and catch up. Anyway, food wasn’t bad - carne asada, shrimp fajitas, and some other dishes all above average. But you are going to feel a little pressure here as they try to get you to drink a lot. Margaritas are quite small as well, so maybe that is why they come back all the time.
We had a great time; with great food. Our waiter could not have been nicer! That said, you seemed to have a shortage of waiters. He had to juggle making guacomole at the table side, clearing tables, serving food, etc. and was stretched way too thin. Luckily we weren't in a hurry.
I've been to Sinigual many times for chopped salads at lunch but haven't been there in awhile for dinner. My friend and I were seated in a cute little booth near the kitchen (but not too close). Food and service were both very good. We shared the guacamole, salmon appetizer, carmelized papayas and chicken fajitas. Oops, almost forgot the jalapeno margaritas! Way too much food but all delish.
I highly recommend if you're in the neighborhood. The restaurant is very pretty inside and the staff is very attentive.
We were a party of 7 and the restaurant was most accommodating to us. We were seated even though a few from our party were late. The food was very good, although the people that had salads for dinner were not as happy with their meals. One of the most reasonable restaurants to eat at in the Grand Central Area. Will be back again soon
Eight of us enjoyed our meals and the staff was convivial. The chef's special, a salmon dish with mango salsa and plantain rice was exceptional! The only problem we encountered was that a vegan guest at our table was given guacamole with cheese mixed into it even after specific instruction were given about no dairy. THEN she was told she could "eat around" it. (Not possible.) In spite of that, we would try it again. Overall, the experience was enjoyable.
Sinigual was longdhot pick from an internet search for Mexican cuisine. However, it was easy to make a reservation for that particular Saturday evening, and as I was running 15 minutes late, staff was able to hold the reservation in accommodation. Staff were great, as was the service, and the food. Compliments to the chef, as both my date and I, visiting Sinigual or the first time, are satisfied overall. We will refer friends, and above all, will make this our favorite NY restaurant. We will visit again. Thank you!
I am a frequent patron of Singual. Unfortunately this last visit was not up to par. The guacamole had to be redone because too much lime and not spicy like we asked. The attention from the waiter was fair - as we one person in my party had to ask fro her iced tea more than once. Overall I hope this improves back to the usual good food/service.
This place is simply overpriced and under delivers. First, the cocktails are just not that special. For $16-$18 they should be much better in quality and quantity. Our waitress was not on her game. She put in the wrong order and would deliver our food half assed. For example we ordered the fajitas and did not receive the tortilla to go along with it for about 10 minutes. She claimed they were making them fresh. That is a nonsense excuse. The food is nothing spectacular but extraordinarily expensive. There are plenty of other places to go instead.
Food is different, lots of choices beyond typical Mexican restaurant fare (enchilada stack, lobster quesadilla, vegetable plate). Waiter was excellent despite having three kids at the table. Prices are very reasonable for what you get.
Two downsides for this visit only: The guacamole lacked flavor and was a bit watery, but I have eaten here before a couple of times and this was the first time I've had that experience. Very loud band but they didn't play the entire time. In a nicer restaurant, conversation shouldn't have to be shouted.
I've never written an Open Table review before, but the service here was so bad that I felt compelled. The food was fine, mediocre really. The service, however, was horrible. We waited nearly 20 minutes for water, then another 20 minutes before our drinks came (our waiter returned about 10 minutes after we ordered a round of drinks to ask if we were ready to order drinks yet, so that was confusing). Food came surprisingly quickly, but then we waited another 20 minutes for the check to come. Just a painfully slow dining experience. The margaritas were also bad (too sweet).
