Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: James Trees

From the OpenTable editors: When James Beard-nominated chef James Trees opened Esther’s Kitchen in 2018, he helped put the Arts District on the city’s culinary map. Now in a stylish new space with an open kitchen and whimsical animal wallpaper, the refined Italian spot still turns out the same wood-fired sourdough pizzas and knockout pastas (get the rigatoni carbonara with snap peas) that made it an instant Vegas classic.

Once again, an amazing experience. I took my father for Father's Day and had brunch. The service and food were perfect. My dad had never been to Esther's Kitchen prior to this visit and was so happy with everything about it. He told his friends about it and he will take them in the near future.

Food and service was very good and ambiance was great. Just sad that they removed the egg white frittata from the brunch menu but they did their best accommodate my dietary needs with the omelet. Just not nearly as delicious as the frittata was. Avocado toast was amazing! Good wine selection too.

All of our food was great. The service was also excellent. The ever changing menu is such a welcomed thing to a return customer.

Esther’s Kitchen Review: A Dimmed Spark in Las VegasEsther’s Kitchen, once a vibrant spot in Las Vegas’s dining scene, left much to be desired in a recent visit. The Chicken Parm Sando was a stark disappointment—dry, unseasoned, and utterly bland. The bread, over-toasted to a brittle crunch, offered no relief. A generous post-oven smothering of sauce could have revived it, but it arrived parched, making even a Quiznos sandwich seem gourmet by comparison. The Little Gem Caesar Salad was a redeeming note, crisp and well-dressed. Yet, let’s be honest—nailing a Caesar is the bare minimum for any restaurant worth its salt. It’s expected, not exceptional, so Esther’s earns a pass but no applause. The Truffle Polenta with sunny-side eggs showed promise with its creamy texture, but an overpowering truffle dose drowned the delicate egg flavor, leaving an unbalanced plate that felt more like a show-off than a thoughtful dish. The cocktail, sadly, mirrored the sando’s blandness, lacking the zest or depth to elevate the meal. It was forgettable, a cardinal sin for a craft cocktail.Service raised concerns. Staff used the same rag to wipe tables and seats, a hygiene red flag that risks cross-contamination and leaves diners’ clothes smelling of prior meals—hardly appetizing. Waiters seemed distracted, fixated on the kitchen while multiple tables, ours included, waited for attention. This lack of focus detracted from the experience. The ambience was a mixed bag—airy and open, but loud enough to strain conversation, tipping lively into chaotic.Reflecting on a visit a year or two ago, Esther’s was a delight: bold flavors, generous portions, fair prices, and a fun vibe. Now, with whispers of a new chef, the magic has faded. Portions have shrunk, prices have climbed, and execution feels inconsistent. Would I return? I’m torn. Nostalgia tugs, but this visit didn’t inspire confidence. Esther’s must sharpen its kitchen and service to reclaim its spark. A middling effort needing a polish.

Caroline was our server and she was phenomenal. It is a tradition for my wife and I to go each time we are in Vegas. Just amazing all around! The sourdough and cocktails are on point.

Although it is always challenging to get a reservation, whenever I can, I am never disappointed. The food is excellent, and the service is equally impressive.

Service was excellent. There are many servers per customer with their unique jobs which were done well. We enjoyed Daphne as our server who provided recommendations and was timely with her check-ins. Food was so cool. We started with “Chef’s spread with all of the things”sourdough bread with 10 different condiment spreads. It was a meal in itself and went well with the chopped salad which was larger than one would expect and great for sharing. I had the crab pasta and my partner had pork cheek on polenta which was so tender and succulent with a nice crispy skin. We enjoy the Le Volte wine which was subtle to complement the smooth food flavors. We will be back when we return to LV.
