   We only ate on the first night. The food was decent but my wife’s main meal had to go back as it wasn’t even hot. Food standard for a 4 star hotel was very disappointing. We ate out the next evening. I wouldn’t recommend the restaurant. Not very clean area if the hotel either. If you sit at the wooden partition it hasn’t been cleaned for a long time. Dust was covering everything. Very poor.

   Lovely room, clean, spacious with a lovely view over your golf course. However that is where the good points end - apart from the reception staff (they were nice & helpful) the bar staff, the chef' and the restaurant waiter seemed to be in the middle of a domestic, not nice for guests to be listening too. The barman kept disappearing - we saw him drive past the window on a golf cart while waiting to be served at the bar! The waiter came over at one point to serve me and other guests waiting. BUT worst of all the food was atrocious! The lasagne was actually unedible, as was the naan bread with the curry. At breakfast it was served up badly, the items were badly cooked, I actually had a burnt fried egg under the fried egg that came with the breakfast, the bacon under done but the sausages were dried up - probably from the day before. We mentioned to the waiter about the food, he said he will report back to the kitchen - that was the end of that! We will not return and this is unfortunately the review of our stay there.

   Hotel is lovely, some staff are friendly, was served with a lovely guy down at the bar downstairs and he was chatty and just a really nice guy, was served by a rude waitress in the restaurant who really couldn’t be bothered and it showed, reception desk man there was helpful woman at desk you got the bare minimum out her. Food wasn’t up much myself and husband picked the fish and it was greasy and soggy chips were solid kids got pasta it was ok they ate it. Rooms were ok we stayed in a family room.

   My friend and I ate here several times whilst at the hotel go a spa stay. The afternoon tea was absolutely lovely and we were warmly welcomed and seated at a table by the window in the sunshine. We returned for dinner and were recognised and welcomed again. Food was delicious. We didn't feel rushed or ignored despite the restaurant being very busy with parties who had enjoyed the golf and then quite a few drinks thereafter by the looks of things. The senior restaurant staff member, can't recall his name, did a brilliant job at noticing tasks and ensuring the rest of he team were responsive. Another young male waiter was also excellent. These 2 staff were particularly good. The food was very good, adequate portions well cooked and served beautifully. Breakfast was buffet style, hot and plenty of choice. Overall we were cared for very well.

    We decided on a mid-week 2 night stay. The check in was nice, in that the member of staff offered a better room than we had booked. We had decided to book a table at the hotel restaurant because we weren’t sure what food was near by. What a poor poor choice. We ordered the shrimp appetizer and it came with a piece of frozen bread and the shrimp were inedible. So much so my wife asked me to try one and I needed to take it out of my mouth and put it in my napkin. Our mains were iffy at best. My wife’s fish had some type of sauce that was slathered over it. My dish was awful. Not being punished enough we decided to (wrongly) to try a pudding. We ordered sticky toffee pudding. Not sure that what came out but whatever was served was uneaten because it tasted like cardboard. Not complainers in general we just sucked it up. But as we departed the front desk member asked how the stay was and we noted the poor poor food. She was kind but really didn’t have much to offer in terms of a response. Please…be sure you don’t eat at the restaurant. We got a great recommendation for The Green Tree in Peebles, a few miles away. Amazing service and the steak pie was out of this world.
