                        Good Afternoon , My Partner and I are regular customers at Rare and last night was an upset . From when we walked in there was this really bad smell about the place , we then asked if the aircons were on as it felt quiet stuffy . we were seated and the service was great got our drinks and ordered our meals . We got the Wednesday night special and both of us were disappointed with our meals . steak was very fatty , potatoes were old like they were cooked at lunch time and sat in hot box all day . so over all we weren't very happy with dinned last night .

                        We chose Rare for our anniversary dinner, as there are few fine-dining options in Mackay. The staff seated us in a quiet corner, which we appreciated, and we were gifted some small complimentary Belgian chocolates – a nice gesture from the maître d’. We were informed there was a new chef from Italy, and our waitress was friendly and attentive, double-checking our somewhat complex order. We specifically asked for no carrot puree with the beef cheeks, as my wife can't eat carrots, and requested mashed potato instead. She confirmed the change was no problem. Our orders included: House Beef Skewers (Entree) Salt & Pepper Calamari (Entree) Spiced Duck Breast (Main) Slow Braised Grass Fed Beef Cheeks (Main)  Roast Pumpkin (Side) A glass each of white and red wine The skewers were fine but only lukewarm and the portion had been halved since our last visit. Calamari was great. Mains were disappointing. The duck lacked its potato scallop, and the spinach was overwhelmed with garlic and salt, masking the duck's flavour. My wife's beef cheeks came out on carrot puree despite our request. The maître d’ took it back and returned it 10 minutes later – clearly microwaved, cold in the centre, and the mashed potato looked like it was scooped straight from a container. I didn't bother following up on my potato scallop after that. The bill came to $236.71 – a cost equivalent to over a week's groceries. For that, we expected more. Perhaps the new chef was having an off night, but we won't be returning. On our way out, another waitress asked for feedback. My wife shared our thoughts, which were acknowledged professionally. Then we were prompted for a tip – a slightly ironic end to a disappointing evening

                        Had a beautiful dinner, some of the best cocktails ever and great service all around. A special Shout out to Ruby, while all the staff we interacted with were great Ruby was amazing and very personable to chat with! Would definitely recommend coming for dinner!

                        Poor service / wouldn’t listen and English not good. Fish was raw with no skin, (supposed to be crispy skinned Barra) and salad wasn’t eatable, huge chunks of raw beetroot. Ordered 400g steak and wouldn’t have been 200g, was nice, but not worth $. Potatoes were raw in middle and soggy / greasy. Very over priced for pretty poor quality, might have been an off night. Better off at Austral for a steak dinner.
