The Afternoon Tea Ritual is a quintessential St. Regis tradition and an important part of our culture. The story of afternoon tea date back to Anna, Duchess of Bedford who is considered to have invented the ceremony of the afternoon tea party. Mrs. Caroline Astor adopted the tradition stateside, offering an occasion to gather her closest intimates as a prelude to formal social events. This ceremony was then continued by her son, John Jacob Astor IV, at the St. Regis New York, and ultimately around the world as a signature ritual in all of our hotels.. Our exquisite afternoon tea ritual offer is presented in Oriente Italiano™ c/o Ginori 1735. La Via del Tè is particularly sensitive to environmental and ethical issues.

The food here was excellent, fresh and delicious. The view is beautiful, with the backdrop being Basilica Di Maria Della Salute (or some long name like that)— where Gio’s falls terribly short is in service. Not one server or employee made us feel comfortable or welcome. Not one of them engaged with us more than giving one word answers. We were all dressed well, men in dinner jackets, even on a hot June evening and we ladies had on lovely [classy] ensembles. We ordered a tasting menu with wine pairing for the table. Again, the food was excellent. The tuna tartar - amazing. Pasta- delicious. Tiramisu- also very good (I’m a tiramisu connoisseur) - but the lack of service, of any sort of engagement from staff from hostess to waiter to sommelier made this experience a one and done for us. We would much rather go to Gritti Terrace, same backdrop (actually better), but there the Maitre D (Enrico), the sommelier (Maria), and the server (Domenico) were so kind, gracious, accommodating, engaging and fun we wished we had gone back there instead. We went as guests and left feeling like family and you can’t put a price tag on that. Gio’s entire staff needs to be retrained. There are many fine dining options with food just as good, if not better, for their staff to act so nonchalant, bothered and mechanical to their guests.

My new favorite restaurant. Ambiance felt like a 6 star. I wasn’t sure what to put for the noise level question so I did the third bar, but it was not loud at any point, just music, chatter, and boats going by. Food was amazing. Wine Connoisseur helped me pick out an amazing local wine. I don’t understand why this doesn’t have a Michelin star.

We were very excited to eat here, but the food was insanely overpriced, not good, extremely small portions, and a complete tourist TRAP. There are other restaurants along the grand canal w the exact same view, and this was absolutely NOT worth even half of what we paid. We had 5 people, 3 of which were children, and our bill was over 500 euro. The requirement for two 50+euro dishes to be made per person is outrageous. I had 5 bites of an artichoke for that much, you’ve got to be kidding me, that should’ve been the best artichoke I’ve ever had and I couldn’t even finish it. So sad.

Absolutely once in a lifetime experience dining on the grand Canal overlooking the gondolas, water taxis and beautiful Venetian churches and buildings. Thomas was amazing as were all of the team. Appreciated the acknowledgment of our wedding anniversary.
