About this restaurant

  • Innovative
  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
Experience dining approximately 30 feet below ground in historic caverns that were hand built in the 1800's. Accidentally discovered in 2018 during the building of our parent restaurant, Hudson and Essex, we have refurbished the caverns once used to store beer before air conditioning into a one of a kind dining experience. Every Friday and Saturday night we provide an 8 course dinner with wine pairings from our home winery ( Cypress Hill Winery ) using wines made with California grapes. Prepaid reservation only. Also available to book out for events.

Fantastic evening! We loved talking to the owners to start off the evening. The ambiance and staff were wonderful, but the food even more impressive. We will definitely be back. Go hungry!

We were pleased to experience a such a unique dining venue in Northern Ohio. We were met by a host at the street level of the restaurant who accompanied us in an elevator down 30+ feet below the ground. We soon were greeted at our table by the couple that undertook the project to resurrect and restore this wonderful historic site of immigrant German brewers. Unfortunately, there is so much history of the initial use of this property that has been lost to poor or nonexistent record keeping, but kudos to the folks responsible for bringing us this distinctive dining location. Service was well timed and coordinated for the eight served tasting courses. We chose wine pairings that accompanied each course. The wines are produced onsite and were very drinkable, and did pair well with each course. The courses were interesting and creative. The courses that worked well as prepared, were the initial presented courses, the root salad accompanied by a tasty sausage, and a lamb dish. Courses that didn’t quite make the grade were a pastry with blackberry and roe, and a sea bass that was overwhelmingly sweetened with miso, currants and sheep cheese. Additionally, the desert courses were not particularly memorable. Overall, the unique venue and majority of the courses that worked will bring us back to the Caverns to experience next season’s menu.

A very unique place for dinner. Excellent for a special occasion as it is not an inexpensive place to go. The service was top notch. The food was interesting and for the most part very good. You should not leave hungry if you go on a Saturday for the 8 course meal. The wine pairing was also very good considering it is wine made on premises. If you like wine, don’t hesitate to get the wine pairing. We have had similar experiences at Michelin starred restaurants and this place is on par with them.

This was an enjoyable experience. A couple of the dishes seemed rushed, one in particular was overcooked, but the sea bass was by far the star of the entire meal. Once you got past the musty smell and high humidity of the dining area, the ambiance did captivate you. Overall, a good experience, but one visit would be enough for us.

The cavern was very cool, but dress warm it was very cold. Only half of the food we received was good, the other half they completely failed. You do not get your first entree until about 45 minutes after your arrival, and it took a long time to get your bill after your meal. It was a cool experience, the food was disappointing though, I do not think I will return.

Surprised my future wife with a dinner in the Prohibition at the Caverns on 30 May 25 and it was absolutely an experience we will do again! The food was the best. The service from Jaime (?) was top notch. The wine pairing was excellent! The owners are so nice and interreact with their guests throughout their experience. Thank you for making my surprise epic!

Amazing dining experience. Wine pairings were very well done with every course. Atmosphere was perfection. Bring a sweater, it is slightly chilly which makes sense, being 30 ft underground.
