We had a lovely dinner on the outside patio. The cocktails were good but very expensive. The service was mostly attentive, however no one asked if we wanted additional drinks after our first order. The most annoying thing was that I ordered a salmon meal that was supposed to be on a "salad" of green papaya. There was no papaya to be seen but instead was lightly cooked shallots. I asked the waiter and he insisted that the shallots were papaya... It all tasted good but I was annoyed and should have brought it to the attention of the manager. I chose to not make further comments. Otherwise the food was delicious.

Service was not up to par. We waited over 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order. The drinks took an eternity to get to our table. The waitress was very slow. The food took an extremely long time to arrive as well. It made the night quite disappointing.

Great Happy Hour Experience at Alchemy. We were a group of 6 that had a very pleasant dinner outside at Alchemy before walking over to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. The HH menu is very reasonable. A few of us ordered HH and others ordered off the regular dinner menu. The HH menu had a great burger and salad along with $6 glasses of wine. The salmon off the dinner menu was excellent. We highly recommend this spot.

Great steak, lovely room, but the kitchen couldn’t keep up during the pre-theater rush.

We had a lovely dinner, perfect table for two at a little alcove. Nice wine selection and a fun waiter.

Server was excellent as was the busy staff tending to a very full restaurant. Food was ok but not up to the level I’ve experienced several times previously at Alchemy.

The best restaurant in Ashland. The small menu means that the kitchen can prepare each dish to perfection. Three of us have quite different tastes and size preferences in dining. Yet we all found the perfect combination of dishes for each of us. Service was excellent. Noise level allowed us to converse comfortably. I’ll go back!

$100/head and a horrible, terrible, awful food experience. After repeated good reviews from friends over the past couple of years, we (five adults) booked Alchemy for a special night out. Such a disappointment. Octopus starter: three out of three complained it was far too salty. Lamb shank: two out of two found the over-grilled meat dry and a nasty, thick, bitter char on one side. The fish? "The sauce was as flavorful as water." The duck breast: two out of two said it was dry and over-cooked, not even a tiny bit of pink. All of this came after many false starts. The wine we ordered? Not in stock. The lamb entree? Oops, I just found out we're out; choose something else. But give it five minutes: Oh hi! The chef doesn't know why the system said we're out of lamb. He has it. Do you want it? Sadly, she didn't check in with us after the entrees were served, until about 15 minutes later. We told the truth and asked for nothing in return. We knew it was not her fault. She apologized and said that the chef with all the accolades had resigned and a new chef was back there "in training". As an apology from our server, we were given a dessert on the house—not dessert for all five. One. Dessert. (A raspberry tartlette, and it was delicious.) Plus they comped the corkage fee on another bottle we had brought along. What did the manager say to us? Nothing. Zilch. On a Friday night there was no manager to come and talk to the table? Weird. The reputation Alchemy has around town is extremely overrated, based on this one night. It must be entirely due to the now-departed chef. And before anyone says it: not tourists here. We lived in Ashland for 10 years and vacationed here for the 20 years before that.
