A slow Monday night had some slow service to the table, most notably the speed of the delivery on the appetizers. The foods were creatively prepared and if we did not care for them all it was our taste buds and not the preparation. The smokey flavor on the steaks was delicious and mesmerizing. The desserts were quite tasty and classy in appearance as well.
Husband and I had an impromptu date night in Lincoln (60 miles from home) and after dining here last year, couldn't get it out of our heads. Had the exact same meal and it was just perfect again. Had a couple of handcrafted whiskey cocktails at the bar first as well as a fantastic 15yr scotch. Then had our meal which is simply to die for. PBJ Pork Chop with Maple Black Pepper grits is just an explosion of flavors, very juicy and cooked to perfection. Bone in Ribeye was perfectly cooked medium rare and literally melted in your mouth. The cornbread with jalapeno honey, bacon jam and sour cream mix was epic as well. Only thing missing was their old "barrel of bacon w/jalapeno honey" which they no longer have as well as the opportunity to buy the kitchen staff a round as that used to be on the menu as well. Everyone friendly, great location and atmosphere. Our fav.
We were in lincoln for a concert and wanted to try something new. The food was ok. The atmosphere, lighting, and food, was o-k. More than anything we came to try the variety of bourbon. We would have stayed and spent way more money except that it was horrifically hot. We were told it’s because the owner doesn’t like to turn the air up. You don’t want to have a steak sitting in front of you when everything about the experience is sweating. On top of that you don’t want to spend $30 for a glass of bourbon that you have been looking forward to trying and enjoying when it’s too hot to enjoy it. If it’s any reference...my husband ordered an old fashioned that was good but the block ice cube 2x2x2in (the big ones) was melted in less than 10 minutes. It was awful.
The only saving grace was our second server who was actually in training and shadowing the actual server who had a sense of humor and was understanding. Keep her and turn the air on.
I had excellent ribs and pulled pork. The brisket was ok. The fries were delicious. My wife loved her grilled chicken sandwich.
We were passing through Lincoln and found this on Open Table. It was Fathers Day so we were hoping for a great experience.
Unfortunately, they were out of A LOT of items. The food was mediocre in taste. Steak was chewy. We were definitely disappointed and will not be returning.
Food was good. We went for Father’s Day celebration but I don’t know if air conditioning was broken, but it was so hot and uncomfortable in there we almost left. Also are server was not attentive at all. He seem more interested in what it seemed like his family table next to us then us. Never asked how our food was or if we wanted more water or drinks.
The pulled pork was outstanding.
Chiciron (sp) was delish.
A bit too much smoke for me on the ribs. Still tasty.
The food was delicious, as always. We had several people in our party and everyone enjoyed their meal. My one criticism is that we went over the lunch hour (arrived at 11:45) and the service was slow. I would not go there if your timeline is at all limited. If, however, you have plenty of time, this is a great option for good food.
Open seating in a very large space gives this a sports bar ambience, not an upscale steak place feel. The meat was good, though.
We loved the food. I had the pb&j pork chop and was thrilled with it.
Enjoyed a Mother's Day dinner with all age groups involved. Everyone came away well pleased due to a great menu of beers, wines, spirits AND Excellent Food. The service staff was great. Thank you.
Appetizers were great. Not impressed with the rest of the meal or the service. Would not recommend to others unless going later in the night for live music.
My filet could be cut with a butter knife. The chicken dip appetizer was amazing. The entrees took quite a bit to come out but the staff did notice this and reassured they were on their way. The food is really amazing. A little expensive for Lincoln, NE, but other than that good experience and good food.
Most of the food was pretty average. PB&J pork chop was outstanding. Steaks were just ok, especially for the price. Outstanding whiskey and bourbon list.
What was on OpenTable and what was actually experienced were two different things. Not sure how open table restaurant can be advertising $50 plus steaks and have screaming babies? Felt like I was sitting at a bar and waiting for the band to come out.
Glad this wasn’t on my dime!
Food wash great and was cooked perfect will definitely be back
Great service, was not super busy so we got our food quick. Not very fancy but worked for us. They have a great variety of bourbon!
I absolutely love the steak Cobb salad. The eggplant chips are to die for. Single Barrel never disappoints.
Great whiskey selection, cornbread was fantastic and came with bacon jam (who knew). Food was great and service was prompt and friendly. We can't wait to go back
The menu had a great variety and all the food was prepared very well.
Ordered the Peanut Butter and Jelly pork chop....it was nothing like you imagine. SO GOOD.
My wife had the Prime steak with Marrow Butter. It was good....but not 40 bucks good. The mashed potatoes were kind of boring but the grits were fantastic. whiskey ranges from 4 bucks a glass to 50 bucks a glass.. my waitress wasn't old enough to drink- so she couldn't give me any tips on what was good. i tried a 10 dollar glass and it was like drinking paint thinner with ice. The location is great. close to parking and the theater but the inside reminded me of a 1970's VFW hall. everything is brown and dark. the chicken cheese dip is the greatest food product of all time. eating it is like making out with you favorite movie star but with your tastebuds...and no assault charges later
Fantastic tasting food. Very impressed. Server was attentive and pleasant. Need to go back again soon.
Went in for Valentine’s Day. We had a reservation, we had to wait a about 10 minutes. Not a big deal, considering the evening.
It was quite busy, things took a little longer to come to the table. All this is understandable. Unfortunately our steaks were not cooked to the doneness requested but with how busy they were, we also knew that sending them back would take a lot longer to get them back and we were hungry. Flavor was amazing. We will return and try a again for sure!
The staff was extremely friendly.
Great food! Excellent steaks, cooked to our liking! Great service, very friendly and quick!
Good food but challenges with service. Seemed like the servers were very fresh and needed a little more guidance on how to make the experience great. Generally enjoyable but room for improvement.
Short staffed and out of beers and menu items. Food was good not great which was disappointing as we met up with friends from out of town. We try to choose local restaurants and have had much better experiences in the past.
Great food and service
The experience was okay. The mains were pretty good but the sides were disappointing. I had the grits as my side and I’m not sure they know what grits were. The texture was somewhere between bread and over cooked oatmeal. My husband has the mashed potatoes as his side and they pretty forgettable.
I think the most disappointing part of the experience was the pacing of the food. We ordered an appetizer and when it came out, our food showed up literally one minute later. We had the chance to take one bite of our app and then our entrees were out so it was like “um...so either we enjoy our app and let our mains get cold or just shove a bunch of food in our mouth” which kind of killed the mood of the date.
I will say their take on a Moscow Mule was delicious with the bourbon. I would come back for drinks but probably not food.
We ate here before going to the Lied center. It was a home basketball night, as well, so it was pretty busy. Still, we were seated immediately, the service was wonderful, and the food delicious. We'll definitely go back.
They were busy and even tho we had reserved via open table we had to wait a few min in lobby... if you're looking for upscale atmosphere SB isn't it... however the food quality and presentation was outstanding ...
Odd venue. But best smoked brisket ever. I would return to Lincoln to repeat this amazing meal. The side order of vinegar intense slaw was great with the fatty brisket. Wonderful meal.
The menu for. YE seas very vague, it read sirloin and lobster. The amount of lobster was minimal “pieces” on top and the sirloins were sold up so there was a $10 upcharge to sub the filet.
Single barrel is a great little spot for lunch and dinner that always pleases. With plenty on the menu to satisfy both picky eaters and those wanting to be adventurous it's my go to for any occasion in downtown Lincoln.
PBJ Chop was amazing. Service was outstanding. Noise level was pretty high because of acoustics but it won’t keep me from coming back. Great whiskey list.
Made reservation and when arrived they informed us they sat to many walk ins and it would be awhile. Didn't want my name, when my reservation was, or anything. Couldn't tell me how long the wait might be. Just said we can go to the bar and wait. Two couples behind us were told the same and handled in the same manner. Lady was abrupt and disinterested. They need to plan better and make walk ins wait if people have reservations. Can't comment on anything else as we had a show to go to and could not wait.
Sunday evening nice dinner with great service by Sean.
It was cozy, the food was great, service was good and they have great BBQ. My only suggestion is to add some Mac and cheese to the menu, it seems to be a staple with BBQ in the Midwest, but they didn’t serve it?
Great service experience, good food experience at Single Barrel the evening of the Garth Brooks concert. This is a meat forward restaurant. We both went with the smoked side of the menu. Tried the sampler of ribs, brisket, & pork. Ribs & brisket were outstanding with good smoky flavor. Pork was a little on the fatty side, but flavor was good.
Appetizers were very good, but the sirloin steak I had was fantastic! I also had 3 glasses of the Sangria cocktail (red) and each of those drinks were super! One of the other people with me had the filet steak and she raved about that and the potato cakes for the entire rest of the meal! Bloody Mary drink comes loaded with a skewer of green olives, cheese chunks and some andouille sausage! Delish!
Excellent food with a menu mixing the creative with the classic in the barbecue and steak cuisine.
