Another wonderful meal at this gem at the Desmond. We know it has the best prime rib (Fridays only) but being Saturday, we tried the seafood offerings. The halibut, sole en papillote, and swordfish au poivre were all exquisite in both presentation and taste! Don’t pass on dessert - delicious!
We had the Valentine's Day special. It was beautifully prepared and presented.
The food was very good with a nice variety. The service was excellent.
Not real impressed, the server was super busy and they were understaffed. The drink was a bit weak and the place was pricey. $61 for prime rib, a drink and glass of wine, for one.
My son really enjoyed the chicken carbonara. My filet mignon was delicious and it was so tender I could have cut it with my fork.
Consistently superb!!!!! Best prime rib in the world! My niece and her friends comes all the way from Ithaca just for the prime rib- done this twice!!!!!
Unfortunately the food we ordered was not good at all. We both ordered the Filet Of Beef and it was a overcooked and there was no flavor at all. No seasoning on the meat, potatoes or asparagus. The potatoes were dry and tasteless. The overall presentation was beautiful, but the execution on the cook of the food I’m sorry to say was horrible. I expected way better food for the $32 a plate meal.
I just love coming to Simpson’s! It is our “go to” upscale restaurant! The food is always great and the service is wonderful! What a terrific staff!
Excellent food, great service. Very low noise - the app registered higher noise and it can't be changed to lower.
This is one of our favorite restaurants but on Friday night at 7:30, it took almost 20 minutes for someone to take our order. We were greeted with, "I hope that you aren't here for the Prime Rib." In fact, three of us were. We ordered something different. Not a problem. My daughter's meal was so over-cheesed that she couldn't eat it and ordered a salad at the end of our meal. The salad took many minutes to come out and by that time, it wasn't a full dining room. We weren't charged for her cheesy meal. I ordered a steak and the waitress ordered me a filet. Not a problem. I ate it because I didn't want to wait for another meal to come out. My son and I didn't want to return our filets that weren't cooked well because again, we didn't want to wait. My husband's meal was fine. The next morning, my daughter had stomach issues. Not sure which meal bothered her but the whole day was not pleasant for her and she was here visiting. Overall, not a good experience but generally, it is.
Simpsons Grill is my favorite restaurant. Love the atmosphere and the food never disappoints. The Prime Rib on Friday night is a must if you haven't yet tried it.
We really enjoy the Friday night prime rib special. Delicious meal and excellent service.
One word! Spectacular! Prime rib is the best in the world!!! We have family and friends who travel hundreds of miles for Prime Rib Fridays!!!!!
We had excellent, innovative dishes served in a timely manner at Simpsons and it wasn't that expensive, considering that it's housed in the Desmond. Some of the breakfasts were really blow-your-socks-off kind of good. Server was very good too.
The best prime rib bar none and I have dined in restaurants globally!
We had another fine dining experience at Simpson's this past Saturday evening. The service was friendly and professional and the food was very good. The surprising part is that this is a hotel dining room that is open for three meals a day. It must be very tough to staff an operation like this but still produce a dining experience that is better than many stand-alone restaurants in the area. Yes, we have had one or two meals here that were not the greatest (fish is sometimes this kitchen's downfall). But the majority of the time it is a great meal with service that is well above other restaurants in the area. And we can tell that we are not the only ones who enjoy this restaurant. Almost every time we are there, we see familiar faces who are routine customers--and just not there for a special occasion. We do miss the elegance of the Scrimshaw, but as long as Simpson's keeps performing as it has in the recent past, we will continue as regulars.
This is my go-to spot for a relaxing, cozy dinner. The food choices are very good and the service is courteous and usually prompt. The only time I was not pleased with the service was at a dinner served for family members after a wake. The group waso comprised of about 20 people. The service was very slow but the food, when it arrived was good.
We took my mother to Simpson's to celebrate her birthday. She was given a card and a free dessert and treated really well. Our server, Deb, was outstanding and made us all feel very welcome. the food was delicious, hot beautifully presented. Simpson's is a wonderful place to go for a good meal anytime.
Our dining experience was a huge disappointment. One meal was fine, although nothing special (steak) but the other was not. The fish special was so dry to be inedible. The only thing offered was another serving of the same. which we certainly would not want, and then a free dessert - which we weren't planning on having anyway. To have no other compensation (removal of the entree from the bill), was extremely surprising. Spending over $100 for such an experience was ridiculous and one we will never subject ourselves to again. We've gone to chain restaurants, had better meals, and received compensation when something was not to our satisfaction.
in addition, on our way out, the hostess said goodbye and then "you'll be back again." what was that??? usually it's something like "we hope you enjoyed your time and hope to see you again." Rather presumptuous, that's for sure.
Needless to say, for a restaurant in a place like the Desmond, you really need to ensure the quality, or at least the treatment of customers, is much better than we experienced.
Service start to finish was outstanding. They paid attention to us without being overbearing, a fine line to walk.
Food was the best, had to get extra rolls to sop up all the sauces!
We were very satisfied with food and service. No complaints - we'll be back.
Tracey was amazing our food was great. I plan on returning!
Food was delicious and service excellent. We had a table of 8 and our waiter was awesome!
Great place to dine great food and service.
Great place to get together with family and friends. Excellent food and service. Our waitress Deena was great very efficient. Would highly recommend.
Stayed in the hotel for an RPI parents' weekend in July and ate in the restaurant. The hotel is kind of dated and funky, restaurant decor could use an update, but whoever is running this kitchen is the best. My salmon that night was perfect, great fingerling potatoes, simply but perfectly seasoned broccoli on the side. Brought the whole family back last week, and was not disappointed. My wife and I had different fish dishes, both fantastic, kids had perfectly prepared steaks, wonderful side dishes, absolutely great. The Desmond should tout this restaurant — I'm not sure you could get a better meal anywhere in Albany. Thank you!
We were extremely pleased with the service of the staff. We were there on Friday night and took advantage of the Prime Rib special. A 12 ounce prime rib dinner with salad and a dessert for only $24. We will be back.
My first review after over 300 Open Table meals.
We eat out often (cash in our OT points in $100 increments) and have eaten here a number of times. We cannot recall ever a situation like we experienced Thursday. I will only give some of the highlights.
To start our waitress told us repeatedly she was new. That may explain why our wine came with the citrus requested for our water in it. She did not know of the specials and told us everything was on the menu.
When meal finally served we learned that the duck one of us ordered was dropped in the kitchen. My Filet was extremely well done as to be inedible. Manager, Ed, advised me he would get a new one right out. Meanwhile two people had their food and were eating and two of us were left with our baked potatoes while our meals were being redone. We asked for butter for the potatoes. A while later we again asked for butter. The third time we asked our waitress for butter she responded that "it is not her job" she told a busboy to bring it.
Friends duck finally arrives, all is well she eats it alone as the two meals correctly served were finished. Long after the duck is finished my filet arrives, At this point I said just wrap it up as we have been here two hours, eating individually due to the problems. That is done and a check is brought to us. The waitress must have decided we did not want dessert or coffee.
The check is for everything we ordered, no offs, no offer of dessert etc. We paid it and left. On the way out we saw the specials on a board that were not on the menu.
We went to a diner for dessert and coffee.
Bottom line is a new person should not be just put out to deal with customers without training. We paid almost $200 for a lousy meal with no apology from management. We vote with our feet and will not be returning.
One of the best meals in memory. Prime Rib to die for with all the right extras. Grouper for constant companion. In Upstate New York no less ! Remarkable. Bread pudding which had to be transported home, but delectable, nevertheless, later on. All in all, an exceptional event.
Love going to Simpsons! Great food and you can actually have a conversation with the people in your party! Noise level was perfectly low! Wait staff can't do enough for you!! We come here a few times a year for different celebrations! Highly recommend!
As always, the food, service and ambiance delivered! It was a pleasure to show our friends a restaurant in their neighborhood that they have never visited. They were impressed with the food, service and how quiet it was.
Simpsons is a hidden gem just off the interstate.
We often travel the Northway and stop for dinner. We try to avoid chain restaurants.
It was nice to find this place, with excellent seafood, and quiet comfort.
It's also close to the airport, for people traveling that way.
Food and service is always fantastic. This is my favorite restaurant in the capital region.
If you like prime rib Fridays are great special their food is always consistently delicious A must try!
The menu had something for everybody. The employees were all very polite and did their jobs well. Enjoyed our lunch very much. We'll definitely go back. We've been there for dinners as well and found everything just as nice.
Always a nice stop... Everything is consistently good!
Very good food and service. A must try
Service is always slow but today we watched, noticed we were seated before three other tables that were seated after us. All were served their food and done eating before we even got our food! Too frustrating - I doubt we will be back.
Excellent experience we had an outstanding dining experience for a special occasion have a birthday. The waitress took outstanding care of us and had a Great sense of humor. The meals and desserts were just respected from having been their previous times and the staff is very accommodating.
One of our most favorite and now that they brought back their Prime Rib on Fridays- Friday will be Simpson's night!!!! Really a gem!
