First I am not usually a fan of hotel restaurants unless the hotel is very high end. This was a Wyndam - not sure who owns it now. I don't know why so many people rated it well on OpenTable which was why I tried it in the first place. ( My friend needed to be close to the Performing Arts center). Everything was mediocre. The service was terrible. Our waiter got sent on a room service run after delivering the dessert menus and did not come back for 15 minutes. Everyone we asked to take our order said they would try to find out waiter. No one helped. V disappointing all around.
Excellent food as always...just wish it was quieter inside.
Great place to go before going to South Coast Rep! Good food and service. And honestly, free parking and a very short walk over to SCR.
I've eaten there twice. The first time was very good. This time our bronzino (white fish) was very salty. Also, the wine list is absolutely Unexciting.
The staff knew we had a play to see at 6:00pm and were extremely accommodating. And how convenient it was to valet park at the restaurant/hotel and walk to the theater!
Could not have been nicer to us....good food, varied menu and good service
We had another great meal at Silver trumpet before going to the theater.
One problem - when we checked in they had a choice of two very unsuitable tables for us. I asked about the tables we could see and was told the were all reserved. I asked for the manager who gave us a good table.
I have to wonder if they are giving phone reservations the priority for the better tables.
While stationed in a very nice hotel, this restaurant has very comfortable atmosphere. It is a hidden gem for business lunch and pre-symphony dining. They are also generous to charities in the community.
I brought my daughter here for dinner prior to an evening across the street at Segerstrom. It was a special occasion to celebrate her birthday, as well. Our server was named Brandi, and you could not wish for a better person. She was upbeat, helpful, attentive, informative...just lovely as could be. Our dinner fare was on the light side (salad with protein) as we didn't want to have a heavy meal and doze-off at the show later. Fortunately, the delicious salads and wine left room to enjoy dessert. The Toffee cake was our favorite. Brandi was attentive to our schedule and got us the check in plenty of time to get to our show. It was a wonderful and smooth, stress-free evening.
The severs and staff were outstanding. We loved the brunch items. Had omelette and waffle both were very good. Same for the person that made them.
We went for the Easter Brunch. Wonderful food, great selection and service. The manager came by to check on our meal. We will definitely go back!
First time at this restaurant and it was for Easter Sunday brunch. Beautiful decor and location was lovely with a view of the lake outside the windows. The food choices were beyond delicious. Loved the cheeses and of course the Belgian waffles were yummy!! So many choices and everything we tried was so tasty!! I would definitely come back for brunch and would also love to try dinner here as well.
We tried this restaurant on a whim for Thanksgiving and were really impressed. So impressed we went for Easter as well.
The care and craft they put into presentation and quality of food is incredible, especially for the price. We paid $55 per adult and the type of cuisine they had could have easily charged $75 per person (as much as we paid at the Huntington Beach Hyatt which is subpar compared to the ST).
We love this place and the staff is excellent. We feel it is a hidden gym. Great seating arrangements, easy to navigate to the food :) and overall very relaxing dinning.
We were there for Easter Brunch Buffet 2018. Service was excellent. Food was very good but not outstanding. The selection was lacking. For the amount of money we paid, it would have been nicer to have had more to choose from.
The service was terrible. We were the first table for our waiter. Someone else brought our food quickly but part of our order was missing and our waiter never checked back on us. We finished the portion of the food we received and our drinks were empty. We finally got flagged down our waiter and told him that part of our dinner didn't come and ordered another round of drinks. He forgot to order our drinks so we waited about 20 minutes before we could flag down a bus boy. Then the drinks and the remainder of our dinner came. We tipped the bus boy on the side.
The fried chicken is one of the best I’ve ever had!!
The food was fantastic and the service was outstanding.
My wife and I visited Silver Trumpet in advance of a theater show. It is very convenient to the concert and theater venues. However, we will never go to the Silver Trumpet again. While the food was passable and the wait staff were friendly and helpful, the management has no clue about how to provide a good experience.
First, the restaurant booked guests (including my wife and I) in their outside patio without telling us. So on a cool March evening, they left many of us to shiver under blankets (that they provided after the fact). They have a "rush" pre-theater and the regular dining space is filled quickly. However, this "rush" is not a surprise...but highly predictable. To surprise guests with outdoor seating only and to scramble in real time to address the temperature is just bad management.
Worse, the entire restaurant is dirty. The bar area had only a few tables open at 6pm, all were still sporting their previous occupant crumbs. The menu's on the tables were also dirty and left sticky residue on our fingers.
The appetizer in the bar (while we waited for our table) arrived and was fully consumed before the drinks arrived. Again the management did not plan for the "rush" having only one bar tender for the bar and restaurant combined! Dinner itself was a 45 minute wait after ordering...so maybe there was only one chef as well? In the end, we barely had time to finish the food before we had to signal our waiter to bring us the check with dessert because we would miss the theater opening.
In all, it was a fiasco. And could have been an acceptable experience. But the management of the restaurant has no clue. I strongly recommend against going to this restaurant until/unless they change management.
This is one of our favorite places to eat before the symphony or theatre (South Coast Repertory or Segerstrom). The food and service are very good.
Great place for dinner before a show. Top notch all around.
Great restaurant! This is my first time there and we were pleasantly surprised. Great food, quite atmosphere, and a phenomenal waiter and waitress staff.
We came here before a show @ OCPAC. The prix fixe lamb was outstanding. Great proximity to the center. We will be back!
Excellent meal to celebrate a birthday. We enjoyed the Prix Fixe dinner. The starters were fine, the rack of lamb was plentiful (8 chops) and perfectly prepared (tender, medium rare, with just-right seasoning), and the wine pairing appropriate. Expensive - but we'll return!
Unfortunately, our server must have been fairly new, and was definitely not on top of her game. Forgiven, but could have been much better - especially at these prices!
The service was great. The food was good, however, I've had better Cesar salads and my wife's chicken was dry, but the short ribs and Earl grey creme brulee was excellent. Very nice decor, but they were still remodeling during dinner hour; hammers, drills, cutting, not sure why they couldn't stop for a few hours during the dinning rush.
We ate here prior to seeing a play at Segerstrom center, we valet parked $10 and just walked over to theater avoiding the crowd. I would recommend going here prior to seeing a play, just ask if they are done with remodeling.
Food and service were amazing. The only snag is that they're in the middle of remodeling so the construction was a little loud.
We had a most enjoyable pre-symphony dinner at the Silver Trumpet this week. Everything from the pleasant experience of being seated promptly at our reservation time, to the friendly & efficient service of our waiter, Mario, to the variety and quality of the food was outstanding. We shared a delicious arugula salad and then both had the short ribs entrees. The ribs, braised in a red wine reduction sauce, were falling apart tender. They were served over whipped potatoes with grilled carrots & onions. It was wonderful comfort food on a cold rainy night.
The meat portions were more than we could eat but it didn’t seem practical to carry take out to the symphony. Mario offered to box up our leftovers and store them in their kitchen refrigerator so we could pick them up after the performance. Talk about service!
The Silver Trumpet is a hidden gem, a short easy walk to Segerstrom Center. Validated parking in the hotel garage is included. We will definitely dine there again.
The food was bad. Steak so tough it was hard to cut even with a steak knife. Very hard to chew and was supposedly prime beef. Server took one steak off the bill. Lobster bisque also unsatisfactory.
Good dining, with Prix Fixe menu available. Located near the Performing Arts complex. Convenient to walk.
One of our favorite before and after theater dining spots.
Our first experience at the Silver Trumpet was a complete success from start to finish.
Great service and food was excellent! Perfect location to dine and then see a play or other entertainment.
We decided on a brunch one Sunday morning before a 1 pm performance at the Segerstrom. None of us had ever tried Silver Trumpet and based upon favorable reviews online, decided to go there. Location was very convenient to the theatre, however to park there required a fee (reimbursed somewhat by the stamp put on the parking chit by the restaurant). Parking at the Segerstrom is similarly expensive for a few hours. The menu was interesting, prices were fair, ambiance was lovely, and the server couldn't have been more helpful. The food itself was presented in an attractive and welcoming manner. My two companions had the breakfast burritos, and both of them said it was very good. Portion size was decent. I had the lunch soup and salad combination. I am a picky eater and found the soup to be a tad salty and the salad (mostly raw spinach) to have been undertossed (tossing will break down the toughness of the spinach). On the whole, however, it was a good meal and we were quite pleased.
Excellent food and great service at this comfortable and beautiful restaurant. You can talk comfortably and you are not sitting on top of one another. The food is very delicious and served at the appropriate temperature. Servings are also quite generous.
I love this place. I go every time I attend a show at the Segerstrom or SCR. (Which is once or twice a month.) The food is delicious! I especially love the beet and goat cheese salad..( I always add salmon). The vibe is slightly funky and fun. It has elegance but with an artistic flare. There is an awesome bar with great appetizers and yummy drinks that has both indoor and outdoor seating. The dining room has lots of seating options from high booths, to huge couches for larger groups. I always recommend Silver Trumpet when anyone mentions they are going to the theater in Costa Mesa.
this is the second time we've eaten here before a show at segerstrom. it's very good food and the service is excellent! they have a limited but very tasty prix fixe menu, and it doesn't seem to change over time, but the bacon wrapped dates are to die for!! my husband got a cobb salad which which was a good portion, and we shared a prix fixed meal. it was a perfect sharing meal. we have another show next month, and i'm sure we'll be back again. oh, the other plus is the parking and validation to go see a show at segerstrom. i love that it's right across the street. super convenient!
the scallops and parmesan risotto were very good and the salmon was excellent. Also enjoyed the bacon wrapped dog appetizers.
Amazing Valentines Day Dinner ! As soon as we walked in I received a beautiful red rose ,classy touch ,the dinning room was very beautiful decorated for the occasion .The server was greeting us with complementary champagne ,most of the restaurants are serving a cheap sparkling since is complementary , they were serving Jean Charles Boisset ,talking about class ! Food was delicious and perfect portioned .All I can say is WELL DONE SILVER TRUMPET ,we will always remember this amazing night
This is now our third time coming here for Valentines Dinner and we have always enjoyed our visit and dining experience.
