Signature Grill Ratings and Reviews
The view was great and the food was good, however, the service was horrible with the exception of a person who may have been the bartender who tried his best to doing everything since the hostess (who may have been an owner and who was not nice to our table or any others) and the waitress were no where to be found and very forgetful on most everything.
This was a bad experience at the Signature Grill. The first time we went, right before a Detroit Red Wings game, it was amazing! This time, we went before the final event at the Joe, and the place was about 1/3 filled. We noticed people waiting a long time, and some got up to leave because they were never waited on. We gave them the benefit of the doubt, and placed our order.
We ordered two appetizers. One came out with the main course and the other they were out of. The waitress did not tell us they were out of it until she brought the main course. Out of our party of 4, only one of us had our order correct. One order came with cold, rock-hard fries that snapped like twigs. One order came with the wrong side, and the other order was a wrap stuffed with green beans, as they were out of asparagus. Mind you, we were not told they were out of asparagus, and when we told the waitress they were green beans, her exact words were, "No, that's asparagus". When I pulled a green bean out and said to her, "That is a green bean", she said, "Oh, sorry, we're out of asparagus". I don't like being treated like a liar and/or an idiot.
We asked to speak to the manager, and she offered to give us free cocktails. We politely declined, as we had to be at the arena by 7, and it was about 6:30 when we got our food after our 5pm reservation. We will NEVER go back to the Signature Grill.
From the minute I walked in the door I fell i love with the place. The ambiance, view, table presentation, the friendliness of the wait-staff and finally the quality and tast of the food was superb. I am so looking forward to returning, and showing the place off to my daughter, who lives in Miami, where there are many nice restaurants on the water front.
The first thing the waiter told me was "we are out of some items on the menu". When he showed me what was out, I was surprised because almost half of the menu was out.
I ordered an entrée that comes with a salad and I never got the salad. Over all, it wasn't and very good date. The only thing good about the restaurant is the view. I don't think I will be going back there again.
Worst experience ever. Waited 20 min to get seated even with reservations. Waited 35 min before anyone came to ask us if we wanted water. 45 min after we ordered food and it NEVER came, we had to leave because our we were now late for concert. Nobody even came and said they were sorry for the wait!! Also, the lady who worked at desk was having shots with the guest at the other table! Very unprofessional!!
This was mu second visit to the restaurant. It was very disappointing compared to first visit. Everything we tried to order was out. We were there at 5 on a Wednesday. We were packed like sardines at our table and the only saving grace was our waitress. She was an angel even though they were clearly under staffed. I hope it was an off night and will try again in the future.
Our server was actually the hostess filling in for a server who called off work. We tried to be patient but became frustrated with the long wait to be greeted, again a very long wait to get our drinks and then one of the drinks was made incorrectly. We ordered a couple of apps and left. I honestly would not go back. I think the rating on Open Table is too high compared to what we experienced.
Pre redwings game for 8 guests. Reservations at 5:45pm. Seated at 5:35pm. All 8 people ordered sandwhiches in order to keep things quick and easy. Food arrived at 6:52pm...late for the game and had 5 frustrated kids. I personally enjoyed the restaurant, the view, ext but would try and get a reservation a lot earlier. 5:45pm was the earliest so I took a chance. Everyone around us were served. We blamed it on the fact that the majority of the table were wearing Candadiens jersey's. lol. Owner provide us with a free beer, three of us took advantage of that. 4 other tables left according to the waitress because they had no service.
Ok, I never leave bad reviews but I was very disappointed in this place. I had to ask for water three times and finally someone other than our server delivered it to us. It took them 45 minutes to bring our food out and they didn't even bring us our salads our first! And I asked twice for the salad. The only reason I would recommend this place is because you can walk to the joe Louis arena in an enclosed tunnel. That part is amazing!! So I suggest you just go here and get a few drinks before the game to get the free parking. Other than that, I would never EVER recommend this place. When the Wings leave the Joe, they better step up their game or they'll be out of business.
The restaurant has one thing going for it - proximity to the Joe Louis Arena (wish I had known about this place years ago, would have saved me a ton of money and aggravation over the years for parking.) This place is your typical bar - with bar food and it's loud and tight, but parking is free and there is a tunnel that connects the bar with the Joe (you're outside for about 50 feet.) After the event, you go back through the tunnel and into the parking garage (not the Joe's garage) and in your car and you are on your way home. We were home in 30 minutes following a recent concert, would have spent that much time in the parking deck at the Joe. Like I said too bad I didn't discover this place years ago, especially since the Joe is going away... Not sure what this place will do once the Joe closes for good later this summer, nearly everyone in the bar was going to the concert on the night we ate here.
We were going to a show at the Fox, and had recently been to both our restaurants in Foxtown, so I decided to try this place, where I've long been interested in.
It was very nice.
The view is great...watch the ships on the Detroit River.
Getting there is easier than you'd think...easy off the freeway, then through the gate, and the guard directs you (it's in the Riverfront Apartments). All very nice.
The food is good...fries very good...but not a special occasion sort of menu.
Service is okay...friendly.
The venue is a bar with seating...pleasantly decorated with pictures from the river. So, okay. Nice.
There was a group of three men loudly debating politics a few feet from our table. You expect that in a bar restaurant, which is a reason to avoid a bar restaurant.
Everything was nice here, and not overpriced. A decent place to take in a nice view and eat some good food.
Are there better places? Yes. Easier to get to (with parking, elevators, etc)? Yes.
But this place was nice.
I really see no reason to go back. But, an okay choice.
Items were not available off the everyday menu. Items were substituted without any warning or advisement and the items were not of the same value. Took an hour and a half for 2 appetizers. They're known for their location to The Joe....... I'd never go there for any other reason. Horrible service, poor quality food and terrible seating.
This is the second time I have made reservations at Signature Grille for an event at Joe Louis Arena, and the second time the kitchen staff left before my reservation. The first time, they did ask the chef to stay since we were a large group, and while we got to eat, the service was horribly slow. The second time, we didn't even get that. I'm not sure why you would take a dinner reservation for 11pm if your kitchen staff doesn't even stay that late. It was a Friday night - we were told we could come have a drink after the game since it went into over time - they advertise they are open until 2am on Friday nights. It was barely midnight when we left the game and we were told EVERYTHING was closed - we couldn't even go get a drink after the game. While the convenience of the set up is nice for events at Joe Louis, I won't be back after being burned twice. The convenience isn't worth the aggravation.
The Signature Grill was a wonderful place to experience right on the waterfront in downtown Detroit. The service was wonderful, and our waiter was friendly and polite and took great care of us. When the kitchen made my order incorrectly, the waiter apologized and made it right ASAP, even though he did everything right! The atmosphere was great for a night out before going to a Red Wings game, and we'll definitely be return diners! Kudos to the Signature Grill for a fun evening; everyone should give them a shot! (The dinner was better than the Red Wings that night against the Rangers, that's for sure!!!)
I have been here several times before wings games. This was by far my worst experience. Our waiter said he "forgot" about us, several times. This is not a big place, so I'm not sure how you can "forget" about customers. I ordered a tuna melt and when it came out the cheese was not melted and the tuna had obviously just come out of the fridge it was so cold.
We will not be going back.
Ambience is nice with a river view, but overall not a home run for a downtown eatery.
1st takes far too long to get into as you have to wait at the gate for entry
2.there is no clear directions on the location once you get into the facility.
Went in a Saturday night someone was having a Birthday party and the music was so loud you can barely talk to person sitting next to you.
Appetizer were good but I went for the burger ordered a medium rare came out well done like a hockey puck.
Overall this place has the potential with the location to be a great bar just need to cater more to the bar crowd, and the club crowd
