Sierra Mar - Post Ranch Inn
Horrible food, the clam chowder was obviously canned. The food was so inedible we left most of our
Wonderful setting overlooking the Pacific Ocean from a Big Sur cliff. High quality restaurant. Memorable experience
Great food, unobtrusive service, and a spectacular setting. Simply wonderful.
Outstanding food and presentation. Attentive service and well timed courses. The only issue was there were too many flies near our table by the window. I don't attribute this to a cleanliness issue, just the summer season and flies sneaking indoors. Hopefully, they can figure out a way to keep the flies out or trap them so they aren't a nuisance.
I wish I could give this restaurant a more positive review, but the bottom line is that I simply cannot recommend it to anyone. We felt extremely rushed... as soon as we finished a course, the next plate was in front of us. This was rather unsettling and as well as an enormous disappointment. In our minds, four courses shouldn’t be over and done with in 75 minutes. We wonder if this is the business model; lower the price in exchange for a quicker table turnaround. If that is the case, we would much rather pay a higher dollar amount and have the food timed so that we are allowed to actually enjoy its flavors and artistry.
I thought the food was just OK for the price. The view fabulous and great service.
Great service from Wendy as well as our waiter. The food was like art when it arrived and fabulous tasting. It was really enhanced by the wine pairing and Rachel the wine steward/som was so knowledgeable. Her choices were spot on and the dialogue provided made everything superior. A plus to all.
Amazing views, food and staff. We always enjoy our time here.
Everything about this restaurant is perfect
Based on a lot of somewhat "negative" reviews I told myself going into this lunch that I was paying $75 for a cup of coffee with an amazing view :)
After eating there I'm not sure why anyone would say anything negative about lunch here. Honestly, for the view and service alone it was worth the $75. The food could be considered extra.
This is 110 percent worth it- you will always remember this restaurant- I would recommend this to anyone visiting the Big Sur area.
BTW- we stayed at Ventana across the street and frequented their Sur House restaurant 2 times and their pricing was on par with Post Ranch yet lacked the view and more importantly lacked the service we found at Post Ranch. We would never stay or eat at Ventana again, while their room rates are a bit lower they nickle and dime you for everything- better just to plan a stay in advance and stay at the Post Ranch where they truly seem to care about their customers.
Fantastic to go out there and enjoy the view. Not every individual of the personnel is up to the high level cuisine and scenery that is offered, but the total package is unique.
Fabulous view, food and service. Worth the price for a special occasion!
A wonderful experience - great food excellent service- AMAZING view.
One of the very best !
The food was a 5 course meal where you could choose from a list of options for each course. If you stay at the hotel I noticed they allowed you to order single items and from a different menu
Fantastic. Food. Views. Service. Everythin
We've been trying to get to Sierra Mar for years! Finally made it between XMas and NYE. OUTSTANDING. Came early so we could get some of the view....you're overlooking the Pacific ocean and it's just stunning. We'll need to revisit in the spring/summer so we can get more of the view for a longer time! Food was amazing. Our server, Hannah, was great...friendly, professional, funny and well paced.
Breathtaking views, delicious food and great service.
Meat menu is poor. Lamb burger was medium and chocolate dessert was poor in flavor.
What a wonderful restaurant. The food was amazing. We will come back again next year. And the view was outstanding. People were so nice. Absolutely loved it.
Unfortunately our reservation was after sunset, so no view. Otherwise, all else was excellent. Service, food, environment.
great place for lunch
Astonishing ocean views but not worth the bill. Food disappointing and expensive bill. Fast service in order to get you out of there ASAP.
Celebrating an engagement
Did not feel as welcomed just because we were not staying guests. We felt rushed as servers kept hovering to clear plates as soon as possible before we finished our plates.
When we arrived a guy came up and basically assumed we had no reservations at restaurant and it felt like he wanted us off the property
Lunch for 7 was $900 and it’s a lot to pay to get this type of treatment
Nice views but will not return as restaurant or hotel guest .
All that we could ask for. Our service provider Joel made the experience even better.
There was a disconnect because of a language barrier. Lovely setting.
Love. Love. Love. Delicious. Great staff and incredible view. I had the cavier and it was presented beautifully and it was decadently delicious
SUPERB! California cuisine at it’s BEST! Delectable flavor combinations. Gorgeous presentation. All nestled in serene Big Sur. Be sure to take time to visit the Chef’s potager garden and the art gallery! A great prix fix menu.
Einfach nur großartig. Ein tolles Zusammenspiel aus Küche, Architektur und Landschaft.
4 course meal (You pick from a predefined list of options) with amazing views. Step outside to see the most stars in the sky you’ve ever seen.
If booking a dinner reservation, book it before time of sunset in order to get the views.
Definitely paying for the views. Was underwhelmed by the food. Way overpriced for what you get. I would recommend for a drink if you want to see the view but would skip the meal.
Amazing views but quite disappointing for food. Was expecting much more food wise.
The view and ambiance here are unparalleled. If you're looking for a place to celebrate an engagement that is just as beautiful as the special moment, then you can't find a better restaurant than Sierra Mar. Our server was exceptional and provided perfect wine pairings for dinner. The sticker shock delivered via the bill at the end of the meal was alleviated by a romantic walk around the property in the dark mist of the Big Sur coastal night.
I feel like this restaurant is dated and in desperate need of a refresh. It was built in the 90’s and it feels that way. It was also very hot at sunset which made it difficult for me to enjoy myself as I was sweating for the first part of my dinner. I also feel like the menu is overpriced and we were charged $45 for each corkage bottle which is extreme in my opinion. The view is amazing and that is what you are paying for. The food was good, but not worthy of the price they are charging quite frankly.
Memorable to say they least. Worth the price although I think they should offer the pizza on the prix fix :)
It was by far the best dining experience I’ve ever had. I’m a major foodie and have dined all over. This tops the French Laundry by far. An all around fabulous treat. Will be back for sure!!!
it was great! food was just ok actually. however the atmosphere was great and the view was stunning!
