   We had the most lovely lunch by the wood burning fire and the cuisine was perfection-fresh from the chef’s garden, delicately balanced, and delightful. The staff were all gracious hosts.

   Food was healthy but not elevated. The view was amazing but there were cobwebs in many places… plus whats up with the fly situation… they were everywhere near our seats

   How can you not absolutely love the service and the location of this spot. My family and I deeply enjoyed this experiences And the food was really exquisite. A humble note about it though, sometimes it takes a specific palette that is used to very exotic flavors to appreciate the menu. If you are not used to that… please comment to the servers and they will understand/take care to get you more “run of the mill,” flavors. The pre-fixe comes with choices.

   Everything was exceptional! The sommelier in charge had a wonderful table side manner. Our server was great and didn’t skip a beat! All four of us did the chefs menu and it was worth every penny! A beautiful experience! Not a bad seat in the house!

   The atmosphere of Sierra Mar is what you would expect of the Post Ranch. The food was amazing, however I only gave it 4 stars due to both my husband and I both having hard items that we bit into in the shared salad. My husband had a pistachio shell and I bit into a cherry with a pit in it, so hard that I checked my teeth multiple times to make sure I had not cracked a tooth or teeth. We notified a woman who I assumed was the manager and she took the items to the chef then asked "is there anything I can do for you?". While we did decline it certainly would have been a nice jester for her to offer a discount, to pay for our appetizer, or anything really. This was an error in the kitchen and the restaurant itself. Having said that, upon our next trip to Big Sur we would would again go the Sierra Mar for either lunch or dinner

    Underwhelming, overpriced and pretentious. Do not go unless you are a guest of the hotel or wish to be treated poorly. Made reservations 2 weeks prior to celebrate 30 year anniversary. Reservation was at 5:30 and the intent was to arrive before sunset, have a cocktail and enjoy the views. Upon arriving at the security gate, we were told that since we were not staying at the resort we could not get into the restaurant until 5 minutes before our reservation. No opportunity to even sit at the bar for a drink. Imagine our surprise when we finally arrived to find we were the 1st table to be seated and “guests” of the hotel were at the bar. On the the food, prix fix menu of over prepared, tasteless dishes with elaborate descriptions. Portions were tiny and coupled with bland, tasteless nature of each course a horrible value. I’ll leave the property with 2 recommendations, treat all guests of the restaurant the same. If you don’t want to have dinner guest la mingle with hotels guest, do not open up your reservation sheet to the general public. Second, find another chef that spends as much time on preparing courses that taste as good as the descriptions.

    We have been wanting to see Post Ranch Inn for awhile. Our plan was to fall in love with it and return to stay. However, our lunch was awful. First, it was a very weird menu. Eight dips and some bread, salad, and a protein. We chose salmon and black cod. The salmon was ok, but the cod was disgusting. They served a burned oil stick of fish. The issue was it just didn’t taste like anything but soggy breading with some oil. Overall, the menu is too strange for lunch. A bunch of sauces and bread. It’s not a nice dining experience. The view is beautiful but take a picnic to a vista point and at least have quality snacks that you can source yourself. Based on the restaurant experience not sure I’d chance the hotel. The service and food did not deliver.

    We LOVED Sierra Del Mar and definitely plan on coming back. The entire experience was wonderful. The bartender and all the server were so kind, attentive, and helpful! The food was delicious, and the overall experience was one we will never forget.

    I have eaten at Post Ranch in the past, 2014, ] so was very excited to eat here again. We came for lunch as a party of 4 and were celebrating a friend's birthday. As always, the view is spectacular, and the grounds are so pretty, but the food was astonishingly uninteresting bordering on bad. We had oysters to start which were fine but not incuded in meal. The remainder of the meal, for a $75 a head prix fixe menu, a plate of pita toasts and some dips was the first course? Really? They were no more flavorful or interesting than you could get in any diner anywhere and all shared, not even a personal 1st course. Then the second course had 4 options, chicken, steak, cod or crispy skinned salmon. Not very creative. The chicken was cooked very well, but had no seasoning or sauce, just a well-cooked piece of bland chicken. I dipped it in one of the shared dips to give it some flavor. The cod consisted of something inferior to Captain Morton's fishsticks. The batter was awful, we returned the order. The salmon was cooked nicely, but again, there was some salt, but no sauce or anything of any interest. Just a small piece of decently cooked fish. Our server was lovely and zero complaints on service or drinks, but for $500 for 4, this was an extremely sub-par meal. Either lower your prices or serve some decent and interesting food. Pita toasts with dip and a tiny plate of fish sticks does not warrant $75. Oh, there might have been a shared salad, not terribly memorable either.

    The view is fabulous. I am a vegan and I wrote ahead of time so they would be prepared. They were not and it was frustrating to figure out what I was going to eat. What the chef was coming up with at the last minute! The veggies were under cooked and hard to eat.

    Really looked forward to being at the property...view from restaurant is amazing. That's where everything stopped. Knew it was $75- pre fix lunch (no problem)…food was mediocre at best, service was extremely slow and the restaurant was essentially empty. Couldn't wait to get out of there.

    Wow wow wow! First of all the views are so magical, just that makes it worth it to go to this restaurant. On the plus size, the food is really good too! We had the lunch, full course meal. The man bread with all the different dips was fun and tasty. Salad was delicious. Then we had the burger, yum, and the chicken ( only thing I wasn’t a fan of). To top it off, they had the cutest mini desserts. 10/10 would recommend!

    Pre fixe menu with a fair amount of variety. Fun and inviting plating. Complex, but pleasing flavor profiles. Wonderful textures. Main course entrees were lackluster for us. Maybe we made the wrong choices. My dish (halibut and leeks) was very beige and unappetizing. The other 4 courses made up for it. Amazing atmosphere. Seasonal cocktails were delicious. You can’t beat the view. Service was way above par. Made a special occasion event more joyous and memorable.

    Well...I didn't really want to write this unfavorable review...because we were beyond excited for our first Post Ranch Inn experience. Of course, the setting is spectacular. Unfortunately, the dining experience at Sierra Mar was a major letdown. The menu selections, the presentation and the actual taste of the food was subpar. Our dinner-mates had dined at Sierra Mar many times and agreed that this particular experience was terrible. Because the cost of dining at Sierra Mar is so prohibitively expensive, one naturally expects the dining experience of a lifetime. It was not. Live and learn. There are so many wonderful restaurants in Carmel-by-the-Sea. It is not worth the time and expense to make the trip to Post Ranch Inn for dinner. I hope this is helpful to future diners.

    We were staying at the hotel across the way for our anniversary and stopped here for a special lunch. It was a disaster. They were having issues with their tickets for lunch so it took forever (30 minutes just to get a cheeseboard) - which I understand stuff happens. What was not okay was the chef was loudly discussing it all so we could hear about the issues with all the tables and orders. We eventually asked to be moved outside for a more peaceful meal and the check-in girl was very nice and understanding about it. The quality of the food was horrendous. My husband’s burger was cooked completely wrong (rare instead of medium well). And the steak lacked any flavor. It’s a price fix limited menu so everything should be pretty good & fast. It was a $250 lunch that was a complete waste of money. I would not return. I will note the restaurant has an incredible view.

    An absolutely beautiful day with a delicious lunch at Sierra Mar. We had the steak and chicken as part of the prix fixe meal. Excellent service and nice wine by the glass made for a perfect time.

    Great view but have to say for price the food was just good to fair. The fried cod was mushy instead of typical flaky. They made another one and a little better but would not go there again as other places with great food. Also for reservations very few options however when we arrived place was basically empty, so likely staffing issues.

    Unbelievable views and great service. There was an out of control child that the parents decided to let roam the restaurant without supervision. Post Ranch should have said something to the parents or asked them to leave because it really detracted from everyone else's enjoyment. Completely unacceptable for a restaurant of this stature.

    Although the inside is very nice, we chose to sit outside to see the sunset, which was beautiful. But other than that, the outside lacked any ambiance at all. Also, since we weren't overnight guests of the hotel, we were only allowed to order their Price Fix option which was very limited in choices and very expensive. The meal was very thoughtfully prepared and very high end, it just didn't suit our preference.

    It is a lovely property, and having lunch reservations gets you onto some areas of the property. The dining room is stylish, as is the entire property, and we took a walk over to the Mercantile where I purchased a few things for the house and for me. The ambiance is relaxed and we were greeted very nicely at the gate, by the valet, by the hostess, and by the server. The food was portioned just fine for me, but my boyfriend has a man's appetite, so we had to request more of the bread, which I think was unusual for them, as we had to request 3x. It comes with 8 creative vegetarian sauces, but it seems from the small table, that you eat the bread and the sauces first, then they take it away and bring you a warm dish with our 2 hot entrees in it. We wanted to keep the bread and sauces to use for the rest of the meal, and they eventually figured out how to fit everything on the table. Everyone in the restaurant seems to have a view, which is great and was probably a bit difficult to plan. My boyfriend is picky about his vegetables, so if we had known what was to be served with the main course - skirt steak for both of us - we would have requested a substitution for him of potatoes, mushrooms and onions. We saw that they had potatoes and mushrooms, so they probably have onions. I ate all the vegetables. A bit more steak would be nice, but it is only lunch. To sum it up, it was a nice drive down from San Francisco, an enjoyable experience, and we did one more thing in Big Sur and two more in Carmel, so a long day, but a nice one and a break from normal life. Maybe next time we'll stay too. This is a Lexus partnership property, and I have a new Lexus, so even more reason to support them.
