Me and my husband were there on our honeymoon dinner . The place , view and a food were pretty impressive, I will definitely come back. My only problem was that I couldn’t really understood our waitress because on his heavy accent. And the food needed to be described . Sometimes I even thought she was talking to us French, lol. Overall, great experience, thank you
Outstanding food in a spectacular setting!
Was great but they didn’t acknowledge birthday
Excellent! You get the best and pay for the best!
We had dinner in April 2018 to celebrate a very special occasion. The best part was by far the service.
The location of the restaurant is stunning, service is very attentive and the food is very good. We particularly enjoyed the oysters starter. The beef tartar was also delicious. The bison steak main course was good, although not as tender as I would have liked it to be. Deserts were also very good. A great selection of wines, also including by the glass.
Overall, a fabulous place to celebrate a special occasion, I would definitely recommend. Special thanks to the team for helping make this an even more special night.
P.s. Make sure you ask for a table next to the windows to be able to fully enjoy the view. :)
My wife and I decided to splurge on our anniversary and had dinner at Sierra Mar after having several friends recommend it.
The dinner menu was a four course prix fixe that included a choice of white bean soup or carrot salad, foie gras mousse or abalone, rack of lamb, salmon, or bacon wrapped filet, and for dessert a choice of butterscotch pudding or black & white (basically a dark and white chocolate mini cake).
The restaurant is a rustic but comfortable look and feel, with beautiful views of the coast line and ocean. Service was excellent, the food was cooked and plated beautifully, and we had a wonderful dining experience.
Yes, it is quite expensive. However, especially if you are going for a special occasion, it is well worth the price of admission.
Absolutely amazing all around
We had been to Post Ranch for dinner 20 years ago when we stayed there for our anniversary. The view has not changed- it is as stunning as ever! The floor to ceiling glass windows, the breathtaking vistas, all the same. It feels as if you are on the edge of the world! The bar now has several outside tables. We came for lunch this time with a couple friends from Seattle. They were blown away! Our server, Rachel, was wonderful. She was very friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu as well as the wines & cocktails. The food (prix fixe 3 course meal) presentation was stunning- with colorful edible flowers, lovely sauces, interesting herbs, delicious combinations of flavors. However, our empty plates sat just a little too long, and the food servers gave our food to the wrong person 2 out of 3 times. We also missed the Annie Glass dishes; but we will definitely be back, and it will be sooner than 20 years! It is an incredible way to spend an afternoon in Big Sur!
The food was outstanding & our server was very knowledgeable & attentive. Plus the view is spectacular. Overall it was an excellent experience.
That was possibly the best food and the best dining experience I’ve ever had. Everything was perfect. The Big Sur Fog drink was elaborately prepared at the table and was excellent. All four courses of the meal were perfect and delicious.
We had such high expectations for this restaurant, given its easily a $400 dinner between two people and is hailed as one of the best restaurants in the world. The service and atmosphere were fantastic - a very unique and artistic experience - But the food really fell flat. Just average in taste, and too small of portions, though it was beautiful to look at. For us it just wasn’t worth the spend.
Don’t believe the dress code... everyone is casual.
The view and service are amazing. The food are just okay.
Service is excellent and food is underwhelming.
Wonderful food. There are exclusively great choices on the menu. One dish better than the next. The view may just be the best view in California.
We had a wonderful meal with an incredible view! This is a lovely place for a special occasion
What a fabulous way to spend Valentine's Day. The food was great. The menu changes daily. The roasted winter cabbage was packed with flavors. I had the smoked trout and potato soup. The smoky flavor was just run. I also had the the pork entree which was oh so tender and wonderfully flavorful. This was also true of the rock fish entree. The sauces on both entrees were out of this world. Both desserts (pear panna cotta and a peanut butter bar with toasted meringue) were the perfect finish to a perfect meal. The service was great. Jesus was wonderful, checking with us frequently to ensure our desires were being met, keeping our wine and water glasses filled, and more. The restaurant manager Sean stopped at our table and also took the time to introduce the sommelier. The view is great and they don't rush you so there is ample time to enjoy it. We were not in a rush so spending 2 delightful hours for lunch was great.
The $75 price for lunch is reasonable for the food and service provided especially for a special occasion. BTW, there are some excellent wines on their list that are nicely priced. We definitly plan on going back for our next special occasion.
Food was just average for the cost. Views are spectacular, so that made up for it.
- an uninspired menu lacking flair, authenticity and originality. The precise opposite of its predecessor in fact.
- service was rushed and attitude indifferent, even though the restaurant was barely half full
- reception (main entrance) was non existent. The sole occupant of the reception area too preoccupied to greet us, offer to valet our car or to suggest (let alone offer) escorting my wife and I to the restaurant.
In short, memorable for all of the wrong reasons especially given what it once was.
Outstanding cuisine and service make for an unforgettable dining experience!
Excellent service, delicious food and unique presentation. Beautiful setting (decor, ambiance)
Just divine! Beautiful, relaxing setting out on the deck. Amazing food with wine pairing. Doesn’t get any better than this.
Magical location combined with delicious food and thoughtful service. Will definitely return!
Awesome setting with a beautiful view. Lunch was very memorable.
My wife and I returned for a special dinner here while visiting Big Sur after several years. The food was as good or better than we remembered - creative and delicious flavor combinations cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, I have to take a star off for inexplicably slow and rude service. We arrived early, when only a few other patrons were seated, and were polite and friendly to the waitstaff. Nonetheless, courses were long in coming and attitudes varied from bored to frankly cold. Kind of put us off our meal, especially when the hefty bill arrived with a 20% service charge pre-added. We'll probably give them another try someday...
Beautiful views; great pre-fixed food. Wine was amazing.
We were hoping for the five course meal, which is more experimental and unique. Although the website mentioned this, we were told that only the three course meal was available. While delicious, it was fairly basic in concept.
We had an amazing lunch there, although it was foggy and we couldn´t enjoy the view.
Appetizers and entrees were amazing! Also the drinks that we ordered were some of the best we had until today. Only downside were the desserts that werent so tasty as the rest.
Loved everything about it. Food was amazing
Beautiful view and location with very good, creative food, at a commensurate price. Very kindly, they opened a nice bottle of wine for our order of wine by the glass that matched our tastes for wine. Unfortunately my wife's chicken was undercooked, and the next day that caused us trouble.
Squid salad without the squid!! Panda Cotta uncooked. A very confused restaurant.
Love this place, the view is spectacular, great food! And the wine pairing is impeccable. will go back again.
Thanks for the atenttion of Cobe. I wich come back outher time.
Marvelous! I make it a point to dine here whenever I visit Big Sur. The food is exceptional. A marvelous view for sunset dining
Food was lackluster but the view, ambiance, and service were stellar. Worth the drive for lunch, but I wouldn't bother with a meal after dark or the extended tasting menu.
What a beautiful lunch with fresh fish specials and wine flights, gourmet dessert. We didn't know what to expect because we had heard that a main chef left but it is as good as ever if not better. Everything was spectacular from the food to service, they even offered a beverage to our driver while waiting for us - thank you.
We very much enjoyed our lunch at Sierra Mar. Our wait staff Rachel was knowledgeable and accommodating. The food was delicious - stay away from the chocolate brad pudding is you are making any resolutions.
Good wine pairings.
Only hitch - we were turned away from the gate and told to return at our reservation time. This could have put a damper on the occasion.
Karen and Rod
Great Atmosphere and views
The food was okay, but didn't reach the restaurant's ambience level, class, or price.
