Took my friend Eric over for his birthday. Have a couple of bowls of soup and a couple margaritas. The soup was fantastic the margaritas were perfectly cold.
Fantastic local dishes and the service is always the best. A Phoenix classic!
We live in Alaska. We always make time to eat here when we are in town. It never disappoints.
Very enjoyable restaurant with great food and drinks.
Worst service We have ever experienced. What made it worse was that the staff made a very poor attempt to fix the problem. We were seated and our server introduced himself and poured our water and said he would give us a moment. After 25 minutes, with our server attending to his other tables and completely ignoring us I got up and asked the hostess why we were not be served, as others who sat 15 minutes after us had ordered and received drinks from the bar and appetizers. She said she would check. 5 minutes later a new server came to our table and said she was told we had been waiting for a long time and that she would serve us. Instead of taking our drink, appetizer and entree order she hurriedly took our drink order and walked away. We waited almost 10 more minutes for her and our drinks to return. While others that were seated after us were now being served their entrees. She then asked if we wanted to order an appetizer and we insisted that we order our complete meal. When our order came our soup was cold. The Carne Asada was dry and over cooked. Our server knew the complete story and our dissatisfaction and yet her resolution at the end of the meal was to offer us a free dessert. Why would we want to spend more time and get more food. No manager was available to speak to. We will not return. Nothing worse than horrible service followed by a very poor attempt at resolution, in addition to disappointing food.
Great pork tenderloin- enjoy the Margarita’s - we have made this a go to destination for local flair.
My sister and her husband were visiting from out of state, so I thought they would enjoy a restaurant with some Arizona vibes. Both the decor and the food were just what we were looking for, and we all really enjoyed our dinner. We appreciated the option of a half order on some of the entrees--I wish more restaurants had that option! Probably our favorite dish was the appetizer of bacon-wrapped shrimp, which was excellent.
DELICIOUS! Sierra Bonita exceeded our expectations. We were looking for southwest cuisine with a different twist. Wow! We had the Aztec soup and the Buttermilk Chicken. Indescribable. The chicken was perfectly breaded and flavorful. It’s served on masked sweet potatoes like you’ve never experienced, sweet and spicy but nothing too strong. Th n there’s this gravy that is wicked delicious. Everyone was great, from hostess to our server! Must go! Oh and the wine list! Really good stuff! This is a top spot for us and we’ve eaten all around the world. Nice job! Keep it up!
This place use to be one of my favorite places; however, the fish tacos and buttermilk chicken was not as good. Both were over cooked and dry. The margaritas were great!
Great food and service! We loved their queso and trio of salsas. Our meal and sercice8was excellent.
Great food and service and so nice to eat at an aZ beauty
Didn't disappoint. One of our favorites. Carne Asada is always my go to meal.
What a treat grapefruit terrific service and wonderful atmosphere
Sierra Bonita Grill is, and remains, one of my favorite places, so it pains me to "ding" them this one time. I think we waited (uncharacteristically) a little too long for our initial service. Don't know if this is the servers fault or not. My meal was the beef tenderloin special, and I thought it was superb. However my wife had the halibut, which she thought was overcooked, having to use a knife a couple of times. She almost always has the "Catch" when it is halibut, and has never been disappointed before. The other thing that perturbs me, which may or may not be the restaurant's fault, is that OpenTable would only let us have reservations at 430 PM; the next available time slot was 800 PM; too late for us. Yes, it was Valentines Day, and I waited till the day before, my bad. But I then sat in our booth for over an hour, watching a half dozen tables or more remain unoccupied for the entire time we were there, including when we left after 600 PM, which is when we would have preferred to have dined. Don't know who that is on, just saying it was annoying.
To reiterate, this has been one of our favorite places. We are about to move, and not being able to experience this dining choice is one of the more heartbreaking aspects of our new lifestyle. If at all possible, we will try hard to come back in the future when we are in town.
We went with friends for lunch before going to the Heard Museum. This is a truly wonderful place for brunch. Good coffee and drinks. Blue corn hot cakes are fantastic- flavorful and light, served with excellent syrup and strawberry butter. Others in our party were very impressed with enchiladas and eggs. Reasonable prices and a lovely ambiance. Highly recommended.
Menu is wonderful. Hard to pick what you want because it all looks good. I did pork tenderloin and it was so very good. Did fried pork appetizer. Very tasty. Nice merlot to blend it all together. Server was top notch. Ambiance was laid back and chilled. This was Birthday dinner for me and it was just perfect.
Great place for happy hour, casual meal or special occasion. Food is authentic and delicious . Yummy signature cocktails. Service is always top notch. Atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
Plans this time were happy hour in the bar with dinner reservations in the dining room. We were comfortable in the bar and our server was outstanding.....so we continued with our dinner in the bar. Wonderful, relaxing evening for us and our out of town guests.
Stopped in for lunch since I have not been in for a while. As usual the food was outstanding! I had a couple of appetizers, my wife and mother-in-law split a salad and the fish special. There was nothing left to take home. Hope to get back again soon...
Loved this place! Food was great and even met the owner who was was friendly!! Highly recommend!!
This is our “go to” restaurant for the past few years. We have never had a bad meal. Service is always top notch!
The food is always excellent.
Sierra Bonita is a great place to stop for lunch. They have daily lunch specials as well as seasonal craft beers. The service is friendly and impeccable. The wine list is limited but they have a rotating list of interesting choices.
Overall, it was the same friendly, warm atmosphere we have come to expect. The food was excellent as always and the service was wonderful. We always feel at home there.
had a Saturday lunch at Sierra Bonita a few days ago. Service was excellent! The food was tasty... stacked enchiladas, corn pancakes, and Cowboy hash were all up to par. Had expected to be able to order of either brunch or lunch menu, but only brunch was available.
One of our go to spots. It’s a cross city drive so we only get there every other month or so. Food is always awesome and creative. They have a small but wonderful wine list and an excellent selection of spirits including a great selection of top notch tequilas. Great staff and ambiance. A hidden gem.
I’ve been a long time fan of Sierra Bonita Grill. I love everything about it. Every item on the menu is so delicious, never needs added salt or pepper. Great margaritas & other cocktails! I drank gin & tonic on Sunday & they were very good! My only complaint is that a couple of my favorite dishes are no longer on the menu. The green corn tamale with green chili pork was always fantastic. Not sure why they would remove it. Other than that, this place is always a fantastic choice!
I have lived in the valley my entire life and am a connoisseur of Mexican food. I can't believe I missed this place! I would never usually rate a place top-of-the-line in all categories, but they made it really hard not to. I wasn't there to rate the place, but just took a chance on a reservation due to the limited availability at other restaurants on New Years weekend. I was given fair warning on how spicy my order of stacked enchiladas would be. I went for it anyway and was blown away at the flavorful spiciness of the dish. The Hatch green chili was dominant, delicious and desirable. My girlfriend ordered the fresh catch, being grouper, and the fish could not have been prepared any better. It was pleasantly flaky on the inside and perfectly crisp on the outside. The polenta was one of a kind and quite an accompaniment. My hat's off to Sierra Bonita!
This was our fourth time at Sierra Bonita...once for lunch and three dinners....and it has always been excellent. We always get the fish special when available and this time it was the grouper. Wonderful portion of perfectly cooked fish with a beautiful presentation and, a reasonable price. The service is paced perfectly. We have made a vow to go there more frequently in spite of the drive.
Visiting on vacation and this was an amazing find. My wife booked it first and loved it so much I booked another visit. Food was outstanding, especially the buttermilk Chicken. Go here!
Haven’t been to Phoenix for awhile and when we made our plans we came back to one of our previous favorites..it didn’t disappoint! Fantastic starting cocktails, followed by delicious appetizers and entree and deserts were great. Our meal favorites were queso fundido con chorizo, the pork belly on polenta and the guacamole. I had the fish tacos, son had the cowboy steak and husband had the pulled pork. The buttermilk pie was really enjoyed by my son and husband as I was way too full to even have a bite! A definite favorite place to visit!
Christmas Eve was wonderful at Sierra Bonita. Love, love, loved the Carols they were playing. Service was friendly and fast.
Food and service were great as usual.
Great place to eat - you will love this place - the food and service Rock. Try it.
Our small group of six loved Sierra Bonita! The bartender and wait staff were informative, fun, and efficient. Better yet, the food was muy delicious!!
Had the prime rib special, my wife the mahi mahi. Both were great. I've always loved the rustic western decor and ambience of this place.
Be sure to start with an order of bacon-wrapped shrimp. Nothing short of amazing.
Always a top notch experience, great Southwest inspired cuisine. You’ll want to return afterwards.
Attractive southwestern decor; sever was fast, friendly and attentive; parking was difficult as have minimal slots when very busy; entrance is rather tight with traffic. Food was mixed--Azteca and Albongis soups were extremely spicy with heavy chipotle seasoning; mahi tacos were very tasty but came swimming in a white liquid (had to get several dry tortillas and transfered ingredients to these in order to eat the tacos), the buttermilk fried chicken was ok but on small side and came atop a huge pile of yummy sweet potato mash. Overall, OK but wouldn't rush back.
Dined here upon recommendation of local friends. We were seated immediately given water and menus. We sat for awhile...a waiter finally noticed us, asked if we had ordered...sincerely apologized for the wait and comped us dessert. The rest of the service was excellent... friendly and prompt. The menu was varied with small plates, salads and entrees. I'd call it modern Souhwest. We shared the charred ceaser which was more than enough for two people. The pork tenderloin with coffee and chocolate rub was cooked to perfection as were the veggies. My husband had the mahi mahi fish tacos which had large, nicely seared hunks of fish with delicious spiced slaw and sides. Would definitely return to try other interesting food options.
