Sienna On the Square Ratings and Reviews
From the minute we arrived the welcoming atmosphere was apparent. Our server, Sage, was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. She had a vast knowledge of the menu and made suggestions to help us choose our meals. The hangar steak was delicious as well as the short ribs. Try the meatballs , they will not disappoint. Our cocktails were made to perfection. Kudos to the entire staff at Sienna on the Square for making a memorable dining experience for our family. It’s been a long time since a general manager carried on a conversation with my family while dining. Skylar is a top notch manager who is passionate about his restaurant. I highly recommend Sienna on the Square.
We were celebrating my friend's birthday and this was both of our first times dining at Sienna on the Square. Amanda was our server and she was fantastic throughout the whole dining experience....from recommending drinks or wine to food options. We decided to share everything and maybe over ordered but our food was coursed appropriately allowing us to take our time. Other employees were at our table dropping off food and refilling or dropping of new drinks and we had excellent service by everyone involved. Thank you all for a great night! We will most definitely be returning to try more things.
Sienna on the Square has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. The food is incredible, and the atmosphere and location are great. I had the spaghetti, and it was unlike any other spaghetti dish I'd ever had - very creative and authentic. I was just there this past Saturday, and I already want to come back.
Had the house chopped salad which was perfectly chopped and mixed for lunch entree had open-faced tuna sandwich with tasty toppings An inexpensive lunch during Pittsburgh Restaurant Week. Glad they participated which was my incentive to visit there for first time.
Very disappointing experience. We dined on a Thursday night. Although we were the second table seated in the restaurant and told the waitress that we were going to the theater, it took almost 75 minutes for our basic pasta entrees to arrive. When the food came most of it was cold and overcooked. The restaurant was only 1/3 full this evening. Service was also poor. There are many other excellent restaurants in this area of downtown Pittsburgh, So we will go elsewhere in the future.
We loved our waitress, Sage. She was friendly, knowledgeable and offered up great suggestions to the picky ones in our group. We unexpectedly would up having the kids in our family join us, adding to the group, and it worked out better than we could have hoped. Food was great and was even an opportunity to expand some of our party’s knowledge of Italian food, which was a fun bonus. Portions were very generous and their red sauce was one of the freshest and most delicious I’ve ever had. Wishing I️ had some right now. I’ll be back!
Delicious Northern Italian food, with unexpected delicious touches throughout. A dab of homemade apple butter with the pork and crispy Brussels sprouts was just a delicious bite. The meatballs were delicious and tender, and the service was super friendly and accommodating. We will certainly be back!
Sienna is one of our favorites....looking at the year, we have been there 23 times! That said, would I recommend to a friend comes with a large caveat. I was disappointed this time, with friends that were new to the place. The kitchen was unwilling to accommodate a very simple dietary requirement of a plainly grilled piece of protein (chicken breast, fish....). This wasn't a finicky eater request, it was a medical necessity and is an easy request as opposed to something complicated with ingredients, substitution or a "special order". Getting a grilled anything with a salad is on the lunch menu, therefore is in the kitchen....just unwilling to prepare for dinner. Again, an easy request for a loyal customer that will now reconsider bringing guests there.
This was our first time at Sienna and we will definitely be back. Even the native Italian in our party was happy with the food. The waitstaff did a great job of timing everything so we didn’t feel rushed and also didn’t wait. We all enjoyed the meatball appetizer and all entrees were tasty and appropriate proportions. Shared Pam Scott a was the perfect ending. Oh, and the wine selection includes some excellent choices. Atmosphere was comfortable and conducive to conversation.
On my first night in Pittsburgh, I was hoping for a great food experience and this restaurant was recommended by my hotel concierge. It was a total disappointment for a number of reasons. 1. Service was very slow. We were a group of 7 as one of the two tables at the restaurant and it took too long for them to serve. Most of us had just flown in and we were starving. So I had to ask them twice if they can speed up the orders. There were times when all the waiters were in the kitchen and it took me forever to catch their attention. 2. Food was average, too. Not a lot of options if you want to eat meat other than pork. They don't allow any custom changes in the side dishes. I asked for mashed potato instead of root vegetables (both of which existed on the menu). They checked with the kitchen twice and said that they can't do it as if I was asking for something extraordinary like caviar! Also, the new Zealand salmon was way too heavy. If the fish is fatty, you aren't supposed to add butter vinegrette on top of it!
we enjoyed a delicious dinner at sienna. they do have some, not a lot, of gluten-free options, which i was grateful for. the server was very helpful with that. given that the menu is heavy on the pasta side, more than one gluten-free pasta option would not be a hardship, one would assume. the menu is interesting and different from most italian restaurant offerings. we all enjoyed our mains. but my husband found the parsnip cake to be very dry. i enjoyed a sambuca for dessert and i appreciated the nice touch, that they were able to add an espresso bean to my sambuca.
we were offered a bar-height table, which was a shock, given that we had made our reservations over 2 weeks in advance, our reservation was for 5pm, and that we were having dinner. we were accommodated at a lower table, but it was right in the flow of traffic. we felt crowded and a chair leg could have easily dropped off the edge of the stair, which was inches away. i can see this situation in a crowded bar. but this is not in keeping with a moderately high-priced restaurant. (sorry, folks, but you can't charge $24-45 for an entree and give your guests a bar-height table that is 2.5 feet square. we had a larger table next door for pre-dinner drinks.) our server could not have been more professional. and most of our food was delicious, as i said. but given some of my observations i could not give 5 stars for all of above.
