Sidney Ratings and Reviews
We waited for 20 minutes for our server to great us. Then another 40 minutes to order. Ordered the calamari which had way to much garlic couldn't eat half of it. Menu doesn't match what's on the website. Best part of the menu is there cocktails. Service is awful, food is disgusting. If you want a nice meal out there are a lot better places to eat.
Lovely atmosphere....historic building. Our dinners were very unique. I had the pork and he had the swordfish. They were aestically pleasing....but not a "wow" in flavor. The pork was a bit tough. When I pay in the higher $20s, I hope to be "wowed". Maybe next time, we'll sit in the tavern (more casual) and then have a choice of the "tavern fare" as well as the fining dining menu. Where we sat, it seemed the choices for dinners were limited. Appetizers were very different. No "specials" were offered either.
Sidney is absolutely fantastic! This was our first visit and we were impressed from the start. The staff is terrific--attentive but not hovering, accommodating, offering good recommendations--and the atmosphere is not pretentious but gracious and comfortable. They pay great attention to the details! The food was wonderful, again showing an attention to detail. The menu offers enough variety to make it hard to choose without trying to offer everything. Select dishes done very, very well. Lovely!
Moving to the East Berlin area a few months ago we tried Sidney for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. The food was top choice and service was excellent. My only critic was when we were asked for water and declined tap water two quart bottles of water were brought and charged to our bill.
Dined at Sidney on New Year's eve. It was not our first time there and again we were extremely please with the service, food, and our overall dining experience. The wait staff are very attentive and make you feel as if you are their only table. Did not have to ask twice for any item we desired. The food was perfectly prepared and made eating a true pleasure. We will be returning in the not too distant future and would not hesitate to recommend.
We moved from the western burbs of Philly almost a year ago, and had not yet found a restaurant worthy of our favorites. Thanks to Sidney's, we have. We had hoped to find eclectic choices, and were not disappointed. From an amazing pate to a gorgeous swordfish topped with an egg... the choices were creative and perfectly prepared. The very few negative reviews we had read prior to making our first visit seemed focused on the speed of service. A word of advice to those in a hurry -- there are places with drive-throughs. We savored every second of our relaxed 2-1/2 hour journey. From a surprise complimentary champagne service for our anniversary... our evening only got better and more memorable. Who knew - Sidney of East Berlin.
We really enjoyed a holiday dinner at Sydney's in East Berlin. My husband ordered the swordfish and it was served with a fried kale that was excellent. We were in a group of 6 and had a great table next to the Christmas tree and gVe us just enough privacy to enjoy our conversation, laugh, and hopefully not bother the other diners. Most of the table had prime rib which was cooked to our liking. It had some unusual spices that I enjoyed. Very tender and the sides of mashed Yukon potatoes and seasonal veggies were excellent. Very generous portions. Dessert for me was based on the recommendation of our server and was delicious as I chose the coconut almond bombe - reminded me if a yummy almond joy cake with ice cream and chocolate. I already recommended Sydney's to my sons as a nice place for a date night or special occasion. One note - they open at 5 sharp and the doors are locked until then so don't plan to arrive early for a cocktail.
We were seated prior to all the table settings completed at 5pm. We were served a drink that I hadn't ordered. We received our starter in timely manner. It was excellent. Our enters were good, but not above average for the price. Our bread was stale, but the corn bread was above average. The service was less than what we would have expected for the caliber of restaurant it is striving to become. I know of no restaurant in York Co. charing $10 for most of their deserts. Just some food for thought.:)
Sidney is always worth the visit. I'd hate to jinx them, but we have eaten there many times, and never once come away disappointed by our meal The dishes are often creative and always well prepared. Tuesday, we had oysters to start, pork tenderloin and the cod. Oh, and soup. I don't know how one can improve on oysters, but the light salsa-like treatment enhanced, without overwhelming, the oysters. The pork and the cod were cooked to perfection and the sauces complimented them to a T. The service was attentive without smothering, and the wine and beer choices broad.
We have visited Sidney's for many lunches and dinner. They remain a very special place for dining out. Excellent foods with lots of layers, excellent service which does not rush you with you fine dining, and excellent value. We always look forward to our return trip.
My brother and I stumbled across this "gem" as a place to meet between Harrisburg and Hanover. He is in town a few times a year on business so we want a quiet place where we can talk and reconnect without feeling rushed.
The food is amazing-beautiful to look at and delicious to eat! Prices are so reasonable for the quality and creativity of the menu.
We get the same table every time sitting for a few hours with great food and great service.
The staff is attentive.
Cannot say enough about this restaurant...worth the drive!
The evening was not perfect, but the issues we did encounter were handled graciously. We never felt like we were a problem or bother. All of the actions taken to make our dinner experience right were completed ina timely way with pleasantness. Thank you for a wonderful birthday dinner for my wonderful friend!
Excellent is the only word to describe our experience. The wine was good--it was unfamiliar to me but very good. We had the crab fritters as starters and they were so good I could have licked the plate. Soft and tender with a crunchy outside. I forgot the sauce that came with them, but it was good too. There were a number of things on the menu that were unfamiliar to me and I am a bit of a foodie. My hubbie ate the baked chicken with potatoes and asparagus and a swear he did lick the plate. I had an unfamiliar fish with a pea sauce and gnocchi that was absolutely fantastic. This was our third time there and we have yet to be disappointed. We did not get dessert. Too full.
