Sidedoor Contemporary Kitchen & Bar Ratings and Reviews
The food is spectacular. This is a food destination in Ottawa, in my opinion, always delicious, creative, and fresh. That said, I feel like the wine list is overly pricey, and the beer selection a little limited, given all the great craft brews on offer in Ottawa. That said, and recognizing that I'm not really a cocktail drinker, I wouldn't go here for drinks, but if food is your focus, Sidedoor is excellent.
We were recommended and found the place to be adequate at best. The service made it all that much more pleasant but the food was lacking. Some of the items were excellent, for example the calamari is as good as I have had anywhere. But the dumplings, tacos and tuna were mediocre at best.
The service was great; the waiter asked us if it was our first time and was able to give us solid recommendations on what to order. The drinks were served cold, the food came in a timely fashion and was hot, fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was good for a date; it got a bit loud when a large group came in to dine, and at times it was hard to maintain a conversation. Overall, great experience- would definitely recommend!
Sidedoor restaurant is an amazing experience! They have it all; food, atmosphere, and service. I look forward to it every time I visit Ottawa. The tacos and donuts are delicious and you won’t go wrong with the Chef’s Option. Above all, the standout service cannot be forgotten.
This was our first time here but it will not be our last. We thoroughly enjoyed the fusion offerings on the menu. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The wine list is varied so there is something for everyone. Don't miss this when you are in the byward market
Sidedoor was an all around great experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for incredible quality food, fresh ingredients and a great atmosphere. The service was very friendly but also became confusing when servers would switch tables and you suddenly had a new face bringing food to you. Prices were slightly high but were reasonable for the great quality.
I would definitely recommend Char Siu Pork Belly tacos, green papaya salad, braised beef panaeng curry with rice and the donuts!
The Char Siu Pork Belly tacos were one of the most amazing bursts of flavor I've experienced, while the Cajun chicken were nothing special.
The green papaya salad had a great flavor and the crispy taro on top really gave it an awesome texture!
Braised beef panaeng curry with jasmine rice had a very authentic rich peanut flavor and was a truly huge portion of beef, we were only 2 people and took about half home!
Donuts were warm, soft and very light and fluffy; great for donut lovers!
Two family trip to Ottawa from Montreal - three teens, three parents, one five year old. Fantastic taste experience, great service, great value. My teen wants to take her friends for her next birthday, never mind that its nine hours from our home in Bethesda Maryland. Will absolutely go again somehow.
Wouldn't recommend coming here if you are a broke college student. The food was great but because of the sizes we had an expensive bill with a little amount of food to show for it. We didn't have one particular waiter (which was confusing) we had at least 5 different people bringing us food and asking us how we're we're doing the whole night which made it difficult to know who to ask for help. With that being said, the food was AMAZING especially the tacos. It's a beautiful restaurant and we will defiantly come back again in the future !
Really disappointed with food after dining at Sidedoor 20 times before.
Food was really ordinary. We could not figure out the type of fish in the tacos. Papaya salad was runny and bland. I would be hard pressed to come back. My wife has always been a Sidedoor groupee , said she was over the restaurant. Service was great waiter was enthusiastic.
Food was really not up to your past standards
Side Door is definitely our "go-to" restaurant when we visit Ottawa. The Asian-inspired tacos are delicious, the calamari is perfectly cooked, the papaya salad is refreshing, and the donuts make us feel sorry for all the other donuts out there.
The tacos were delicious and great value. The donuts were to die for. We ordered a steak too and it was quite small and overcooked, with a strong fennel presence. It was a very good cut so still good. I would recommend sticking to tacos and donuts, which are the reason I will definitely go back!!
I should have trusted my instincts when we walked in and there was a side room enclosed in glass and there was massive spiderwebs in almost every corner . service was so slow we ordered special cocktails that said nothing about crushed mint in gem and they came with a ton of mint - my friend requested a new drink wth no mint and waited 25 minutes for it and the drinks were $14!!!! Served in a small rocks glass . We ordered calamari as an appetizer and it came out with our meals and tasted fishy . The server could clearly see we didn't touch it and never asked what was wrong with it and charged us . It took so long to get the bill we didn't even want to waste anymore time waiting so we just sucked it up and paid for the calamari and left . The only thing I can say was delicious was the homemade donuts for dessert! So if you like to pay $14 for a cocktail with an ounce of vodka and love donuts go check it out .
