I had reservations for 10 of my closest family and friends to celebrate my 30th birthday and the restaurant was dark, looked closed, and chef plus one other person told me they were closed! My reservations were made over two weeks ago, confirmed by telephone a week ago when I asked to have it changed from 8 people to ten people and I also confirmed my reservations yesterday through the app! This was so ridiculous and disappointing. We were left stranded with cake and balloons with no where to eat so last minute for 10 people. No phone call?!?! What on earth was the chef doing sitting there in the dark?!?! The phone was ringing off the hook, no one answering. People paid for parking, just beyond ridiculous. Happy 30th birthday to me.
They were closed. It would have been nice to have been called and informed since we made reservations a week ago. Ruined our night as we could not find reservations elsewhere on such short notice. To make matters worse we had friends from out of town and it was embarrassing.
Although the food and the cocktails are really great, the service was quite bad this time. It took a long time to be served, the waiter forgot about one of our appetizers and instead of mushroom risotto, we were served shrimp risotto :-/ Apparently the restaurant was also facing some problems with frozen pipes, so the room was freezing and there was no water in the washroom.
Always a great place to eat with friends. Thanks😊
I'm hoping we got them on a bad day because the weather was brutal outside and we walked in 15 minutes after they opened on a Sunday. But the pork we were served was very under cooked and the Gnocchi was raw dough. The kitchen staff gave us some free desserts to say sorry, which was thoughtful. But I can't say I'm in a rush to get back.
Food was very good. Caesar overdressed. My only complaint was that the waitresses seemed to be pushing us to pay and leave even though the restaurant was not full.
This restaurant has a short menu with solid bistro food and cocktails. They've chosen to keep classic bistro executed well with large portions. I was quite impressed. In particular, the prix-fix menu from Sun-Wed is an absolute steal.
The service was friendly and was particularly knowledgeable about the cocktails, which is uncommon.
Best salmon I have ever had! It was so tender and the flavour was delicious!
Sidecar was a comfortable, cozy dining spot with great food, great service, and great value. Highly recommend.
Our table of four absolutely loved our dinner at Sidecar. Service was truly above and beyond, particularly when it came to accommodating one of our dietary restrictions. A beautiful little spot, with food of exceedingly high value! Each of our dishes was excellent, and priced far lower than other similar restaurants. We highly recommend.
My dinner partner and I had mushroom soup and beef carpaccio appetizers and steak frites mains. (No vegans at the table, apparently). Both were excellent. Service from Brittany was wonderful. Very good value. Not a peak outstanding dining experience if you're looking for something extraordinarily amazing, but we thought it was great and would both recommend and go again.
Sidecar is always a treat. I go out a lot and this is one of my favorites. Really excellent cooking and reasonable prices. Love their chicken, risotto, salmon, salads..everything is well-prepared and the servi complements the meal.
Food was delicious . Really enjoyed the mushroom salad. Salmon was nicely done
Our server Dalya, was attentive and friendly
Would go back again in a heartbeat
The staff here are very friendly and make you feel comfortable. The food quality was excellent, and the price point was reasonable. We have done her twice now and have left completely satisfied both times. We would highly recommend this to friends and family for a cozy date night or even a small gathering.
Good food, good friendly service, reasonable prices, and an intimate homey atmosphere.
Dined here for the first time on Christmas Eve as I was looking for somewhere that was i) open and ii) warm, cozy and with a menu that felt appropriate for a special occasion. Sidecar delivered. The service, drinks, food and dessert were all wonderful and I will most definitely be back.
My wife and enjoyed
we returned after as week since we enjoyed it so much the first time
We intend to return in the near future
The short rib pasta dish was great and my wife rally liked the salmon
I always enjoy coming to Sidecar. They have a great menu and always a pleasant and cozy atmosphere
Wonderful meal. Fabulous service. Great value. Terrific evening. Not a first-time visitor and delighted on this return visit. Absolutely recommend Sidecar.
This is a local restaurant for my friend and we have enjoyed dinner there a few times as I am out of town. Sidecar is always my go to when I am in the area. You can beat the price through the week with their fixed price menus and the food is so delicious.
Food was delicious and the service was amazing ! Will be back
As always every thing was very, very good
Amazing customer service experience and prix fixe dinner menu options. Food came out as expected. Server was attentive and personable. Would definitely recommend and come back again.
Excellent food, served beautifully and, at a reasonable price
We enjoyed our dinner at sidecar. Cocktails were great. Food was excellent carpaccio was nicely season.
My pork chop was juicy and also well seasoned. Crispy chicken was big hit at our table.
We got seated upstairs, our table was a bit dark and I felt a little shuffled off away from main dining area.
We’ll probably go back but will definitely ask for table in main dining downstairs.
This restaurant is exceptional. I came tonight after my work shift, hoping to decompress and just relax for the rest of my night after a stressful day. Sidecar provided exactly this, and more. The minute I stepped in, I was approached by a lovely, relaxed hostess, who seated me at a perfect table—comfortable, spacious, wonderfully lit, no draft coming through from the door. It felt great to just sit down on a comfortable chair.
Soon after, a waitress brought me a glass of water. which I sipped on as I browsed the menu, until she came back to take my order.
I ordered a caesar salad, side of frites, and of course, an old fashioned. And let me tell you: this cocktail is a memorable one. Sidecar knows what they are doing. I was genuinely impressed by the precision of this drink—one that I’ve ordered at many different bars, and have received very mixed results over the years. The ratio of bourbon to sweet and bitter was simply divine.
And my frites were perfect as well. Crisp exterior, soft mashed potato-like inside, these potatoes were clearly just taken off the press and served fresh on my plate to my table. My caesar wasn’t too heavily dressed, as it often is at pubs I’ve been to.
I spent the rest of my stay at Sidecar reading a book and enjoying my drink and after work meal. Honestly, I left feeling sufficiently full, rejuvenated, and ready to hit the hay, just how I had wanted to spend the remainder of my night after my work shift.
If anyone has read this far into my review, I sincerely recommend you to try out Sidecar. If your experience was anything like mine, you will not be disappointed.
We first found Sidecar Restaurant during the summer and really enjoyed our meals and the outdoor patio in the back. Yesterday, we decided to make a return visit and again, we were not disappointed. The servicer was attentive without making us feel rushed and offered great advice on the wine my dinner date was interested in ordering. The beef carpaccio starter as well as our mains (salmon and butternut squash risotto) were all delicious. Would definitely recommend Sidecar Restaurant.
Our experience at Sidecar tonight was nothing short of exceptional. The service was wonderful - attentive yet unintrusive. To start we had the carpaccio, which was the best I've had in the city. Very aromatic, and the matchstick fries add an excellent crunch and variation in texture. For entrees I had the duck confit potato gnocchi, and my partner had the baked salmon with golden beets. The gnocchi is homemade and you can really tell because it is melt in your mouth delicious. The salmon was equally good. It is cooked slightly more on the rare side to keep it moist, and the beurre blanc glaze and golden beets are done perfectly, they really elevate the dish. I highly recommend this restaurant - everything from the ambience, service, and quality of the food make it a fine dining experience, but at a very reasonable price point. Will definitely be returning.
Went here for my birthday on the recommendation that the steak frites were the best in the city - and they were! No measly strips of steak - I got two hunks of beef that was perfection. Not to mention the pureed mushroom soup, fresh bread with whipped butter and white bean dip, and the creme brulee! Service was friendly and casual, if a bit slow toward the end of our meal, but I've already recommended this spot to friends!
It was such a wonderful dining experience that we started taking about when w could come back. We sat next to a regular patron, and wished we had come here sooner!
We have been visiting this restaurant for years. Always enjoy it!
Terrible service. The server barely came to our table and appeared to be very out of it. Missed two things we ordered. The pork we got was raw on the inside and we sent it back to get cooked more and they just never returned it. Overall terrible experience and would never go back.
I made a reservation to celebrate a friend’s 50th birthday at Sidecar but was seated upstairs - a very different atmosphere and vibe that was actually a different restaurant and not at all what I signed up for. I accepted it thinking at least the food would be “sidecar” good but honestly, it really really wasn’t. I came for the beet salad I had many times before and loved. No longer on the and the suggested root vegetable replacement was not even close to as good. Mor like cold slaw. My pasta (cavatelli) tasted like vinegar flavoured bacon and the bacon was all bacon fat. Quite a disappointing experience I have to say and feel you should know because I used to come often and loved it. You’ve really changed and not in a good way.
Great venue, good food and attentive service. Only critique is the food came out too fast.
Everything was perfect. Another excellent evening!!
Bad service. Waiting 45 min for a glass of wine. Food was on par with pasta you get from pickle barrel or a food court. Would not return
Lovely little restaurant on College St. Simple menu, but executed so well. I've been here twice: first time had the steak frites and second time i had the half chicken. Both were solid. My girlfriend got the butternut squash risotto, which she loved. And we started with the crab cakes; they were the best I've had. Sidecar is probably the best value in Toronto if you're looking strictly at price to quality. Very good!
Salmon dinner excellent and delicious desserts. Pork chop was not tender. Not recommended.
Lovely ambience and very attentive servers. I went for a anniversary dinner and the food was delicious! I would recommend this gem to anyone looking for a lovely spot to have a date night!
