Sicilian Pasta Kitchen (South) Ratings and Reviews
Amazing as always! This restaurant has very quickly become our go to for date night. It is consistently delicious and a great atmosphere and amazing staff. Every time we go I am amazed at the price and how affordable it is for this quality of food and experience. We will definitely be back!
Comment: It is a few years since I was last there (SPK South). The food is still good, you had the wine I wanted and our server was attentive and polite - her suggestion, my Miscuglio, was a delightful new discovery.
One thing I am not thrilled about is the new decor. You used to have bright and beautiful painted frescoes with romantic Italian town and country scenes all over the walls and I seem to recall nice tablecloths to match. The place had good lighting and as a result the unique general ambience was wonderful and that was reflected in the upbeat mood of everyone in the place.
Now, the restaurant is dark - almost dingy - the lighting is dim, and there are only a few black and white non-descript photos on the walls - the overall effect is DULL, DEPRESSING, TASTELESS AND NOT AN IMPROVEMENT. Do you really think dark, dim, depressing decor is what Edmontonians want or need on cold, dark winter nights? How about some good Italian music? (and that does not mean the likes of Frank Sinatra).
Great food, as always. Our server was very good; friendly and attentive. Don’t remember her name but she had Xmas decorated nails! One downside was that the booths there are very very tight. I was glad to move to the bar. Unless your whole party is 100 lbs or less, get a table.
As always the food here was great. Usually eat here 8 to 10 times a year. Unfortunately this evening the service was unusually slow for this restaurant.
Constantly waiting for service.
Had a 15 min wait between apitiser & main course, very unusually for this place.
Hopefully this was a one off.
Will be back again ...
Was happy with service food and wine. First reserved table was not nice at back beside the oven. Request to move by one staff member was declined; I asked another staff and we were accommodated at a much nicer booth with a better view of the room. Back table by oven especially for out of town guests was not good. Thanks for moving at my request. Wait staff was great, timing of serving was excellent. Bruschetta and mussels so good. Friends pasta was excellent; tomato sauce on cannelloni was fair.
I don't usually leave reviews but our experience on this occasion was sub standard. We made a reservation and were seated at a table in the middle of the entrance. Everyone coming and going and all the servers and staff walked past us on both sides constantly. We waited about 45 minutes for an appetizer and had to ask for the bread you're usually given right away. Then our dinner came and my food was wrong (an error when the server put our order in) they were apologetic and promised to fix it quickly. The owner came to apologize and said he would discount our meal. So I watched my try wife eat her over cooked dry salmon special while I had another beer. Our server asked how her food was and she said it was dry but "ok" she doesn't like to complain. Our server seemed happy to accept her food was mediocre at best. So my food arrives and she watches me eat. Not ideal .. then we get the bill and our "discount" is 40% off my main course (a pizza) All in all 1 appetizer, 1 drink, 3 draft beer a pizza and a dried out salmon special for 100$ is not my idea of a worthwhile outing
We went on a Sunday and had the Sunday pasta special. 5 kind of pasta which was excellent. We had the antipasto platter. It was too salty and too much for 3 adults and 1 kid. The insalata arancia and calamari were excellent. Good meal with lots of left over for takeout.
The hostesses sat us down right away. Waitress was quick to get to our table. She forgot to mention the half and half pasta combo but no big issue. I ordered a starter soup which was excellent. Everything tasted very fresh. Food was also prepared very quickly! Had my main course before my soup was done! My girlfriend ordered chicken Alfredo with spinach which looked amazing. I had veal tortellini with a cream sauce. Odd combo I know but very good. There’s also gluten free options. The whole experience was very nice and the food is cheap! Would recommend to any and everyone
My friend had the mussels and said they were fantastic. Her meal was okay as well.
I had the arancini to start and they looked wonderful but the rice was mushy and in my opinion inedible. I had the special for the evening which was the two pasta dishes. Can’t recall the names but one was tortellini with some sauce and the other was a wiggly pasta of some sort and I asked for just a cream sauce. They were both just okay. I would not order either again.
Our server was good. Attentive enough and knowledgeable.
The restaurant is nicely decorated and the seating is comfortable. Unfortunately, at the end of our meal we were sprayed with whatever they clean the tables with from a server cleaning the table above us. The entire side of my face and our entire table was sprayed. We were really not impressed. The server said sorry but if I was her I would have let the manager know what happened so he/she could drop by and make sure everything was okay.
I might try it again if my friend gets a craving for mussels again but being that it was a pricey meal for mediocre taste, I won’t be rushing back.
