We feel it was our server that caused us to not have the great experience that we anticipated. We are senior citizens and on a limited income. Financially we really couldn't afford it but we thought we would splurge for our 45th Wedding Anniversary.
I asked for dirty rocks on the side of my martini. He didn't understand what I asked for so I explained what that was. When he brought a glass for the dirty rocks it had a big long brown hair curled up in it. That was so disgusting. I called it to his attention and he took it away. glibly saying he was sorry. I am glad I had my glasses on!!
Then we ordered a filet mignon - medium and a Rib eye -medium rare. Neither were cooked correctly. The filet was rare and the Rib eye was over cooked to medium. We didn't send them back because we are not ones to complain and it took rather long to get our order and we didn't want to wait.
the meal cost us $169.00 and my husband left a $30.00 tip. I wouldn't have.
We have been coming to Shula’s for about 8 years, and have never been disappointed. We go there for a fantastic steak, sides, dessert, and good bottle of wine, and for the consistently great service. It’s not inexpensive, but we accept the cost for the overall experience we know we’re going to get. For the past several years they’ve had the same serving and host team, so it seems the team is there as professionals, and not college students that wil be gone in a short while. The restaurant is not what I’d typically consider a hip destination—it’s just great food, great service, in a mature atmosphere.
We had a less than satisfactory experience at Shula's. Partly because of what happened to us, and partly the food and the noise level in the restaurant. We had reservations for 4 at 6:30 pm on 9/30/17. We arrived on time, but the entrance was jammed up with cars, hotel vans, etc. We got parked about about 6:40 pm. We were shown to our table (we had requested a booth a week previous, but none available.) and seated. About 15 minutes later, the restaurant manager came to the table and asked me to step out with him. I was turned over to a hotel employee that took me out to our brand new car that was valet parked, but not taken to the garage, that had been hit by a hit and run vehicle coming out of the hotel. We had to call the police, etc., and it sure put a damper on our dinner with friends. To Shula's credit, they did comp our meals, but not the drinks. We did tip on the cost of both the meals and the drinks as to not short our servers. However, the place was so loud, we could not carry on a conversation with out yelling. We requested a new table that was a little better, but no table cloth, etc. Our meals, when we finally got them, were just OK. The sides were lukewarm or cold. About the best thing we all had was the French onion soup! The excuse we got from the manager is that the Bucs were playing in town, and they were overwhelmed with customers. I guess look at the Bucs schedule and prepare for bigger crowds would be a good idea. If you want a steak house I would recommend Charley's, Bern's or Bascom's.
We have been customers since the 1980's at the original Miami Lakes location. I'm also a member of the "48 Ounce Club."
For many years we have celebrated birthdays , anniversaries and other occasions at Shula's.
Five years ago we moved to Tampa where we have continued the tradition.
When we do celebrate a special occasion, and mark our reservation with it, the waiter and manager always have recognized it. On this, our 46th anniversary, it was ignored. Except for the hostess.
Now we will think twice about returning.
A lesson can be learned from Capital Grille, where you're greeted by the matre d' mentioning the occasion, the waiter and manager greet you, the table is set with special glitter, a long-stemmed rose and dessert makes he evening special.
We were celebrating a 'milestone' birthday for our son and could not have asked for a better experience! Each steak was delicious and cooked to perfection, salads, sides and desserts were equally outstanding - especially the Brussels sprouts! Ambiance was elegant and quiet, our servers provided impeccable service. If you want to make a great impression or simply treat yourself, this is the place to go!
I have gone to Shulas on my birthday for the last several years . This year was im sad to say a disappointment . The 14 oz ribeye ordered by my date was tough as shoe leather , the Cesar salad was bland and quite dry . I can say my Mixed grill was superb . The onion soup was tasty and a shareable size . Dirty Martini and my sparkling wine were lovely. The Chocolate souffle was outstanding though id have recommend a raspberry sauce and a single scoop of ice cream for both sharing the treat which is for two according to menu.
As always both the food and service was excellent. Shula's has never disappointed in the many times we've gone there over many years. It's not inexpensive. Dinner for 2 with a salad, steak, dessert, coffee and wine can easily run $200 before tax and tip.
We love Shula's. The food is great, always cooked perfect everytime. Service is always awesome, Gary is always very attentive and has a great personality. Can be a little noisy when they are really busy but it's like any restaurant. The lobby bar makes a really good Old Fashion.
