Shula's Steak House - Hyatt Regency Houston Ratings and Reviews
I was looking forward to this lunch. I ordered the 14oz ribeye. I requested “Chicago Style” which neither the waitress or the cook knew.
I explained the cook style but the steak came out over done, tough, and not well seasoned.
1/4 of it was gristle.
I do not plan on returning.
I was very disappointed with the quality of service and the food in general. I had several of my customers with inacceptable food from very well done steaks to excessive sauces and messy presentation. Also my bill had many undelivered sides on it when I had a chance to review the bill in detail since we had such a large party I didn’t feel it was a good idea to do it in front of my customers.
I feel that we were put in a side room because we had just come from a convention and weren't dressed to the 9s. After we were seated, the host put a family of 3 with a VERY noisy child next to us, I did not appreciate this. Salad was great, my steak was overcooked and sent back. The sides are in portions that could feed 4, I hate such a waste of money, it's not like we could take it home. We expressed our comments to the manager but nothing was taken care of.
I really enjoy this restaurant, the atmosphere is nice and the food is great! The waiter along with the host were great as usual. I will revisit this place from time to time, specially if I want the best steak I've ever had. To top it off the special lady loves this place!! I can't go wrong at Shula's
We ordered lobster bisque, salads, then split a ribeye steak and grilled scallops. The meal and the wine was excellent. When the next night's reservation disappointed us, we returned without a reservation and were seated immediately. Another excellent meal!
The restaurant also serves breakfast at the Hyatt, including a buffet. We ate there twice. Also excellent!!
We got there in the midst of lunch time rush so we had a wait while at the table but once our waiter got going, it was all uphill. She was very informative regarding the menu and answered all our questions without reserve. In the end the meal was worth the wait. Our waitress was wonderful. We will come again but earlier! Thank you.
I thought the dining room would have been a little more intimate. Our waitress, Jessica, was outstanding. The food was typical steak-house fare which was good, but not fantastic. At this price point (expensive), we should have walked away raving about our dinner. Don't get me wrong, it was good, just not something to rave about. I would probably go back for lunch, but not dinner again.
The Cowboy Ribeye I got was too tough and no flavor. The Filet my wife and daughter shared was very tender. They totally enjoyed it. Service was very good.
I will not come back because of the Ribeye. It is my favorite dish and was terribly disappointed along with it being my birthday meal.
We ate at Shula's because of its convenient downtown Houston location inside the Hyatt. But now we would eat there again because it's a great place. All five of us thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience! The only reason I rated Food as 4 stars instead of 5 is because my sons are cattle ranchers and VERY picky about their steaks. The 14-oz Ribeye (1) did not impress, but the Mixed Grill (2), Cowboy Ribeye (1) and Prime Rib (1) were perfect. Definitely the best Prime Rib I've had in years. The side dishes were creative and delicious -- real Hollandaise, not an easy sauce that some other restaurants use (Hint to Brenners). Good salads. And the sourdough bread was so good we thought about asking to take some loaves home. The wait staff was attentive but not smothering, and were responsive to all requests. Later in the evening I saw some diners from Chicago who had been in the restaurant at the same time. Their comments were stellar! Great job Shula's!
There are many steakhouses in Houston that do not disappoint as Shula's did. The Prime Rib was bland and overpriced for what it was. The salads were mediocre. The lobster bisque tastes like flavorless liquid thickened with cornstarch. The Filet Mignon lacked flavor even though it had a pepper crust and sauce. The only good thing to be said was the Dessert. The molten chocolate cake was amazing.
Restaurant was very nice. However we got seated at a table where the sun came in from one of the skylights right into my client's face for about 30 minutes right in the middle of our lunch. It was very uncomfortable for him, but when with a client, I would not want to make a big scene and ask to be moved because it was due to the structure of the restaurant. They should do something about the skylights.
Very disappointed in this experience. The steaks were mediocre at best and the two sides we ordered were both cool when we got them. Was expecting more from this named establishment. We chose this over III Forks, Pappas and Ruth's Chris just to see if the quality was there. It was not. Probably will not visit again.
