Celebrate Mom at Shula's!
Sunday, May 13, 2018
I was staying at the Hilton Hotel in Short Pump for three nights and this in-house restaurant turned out to be a true gem. Not only did I not have to leave the premises, but the food, service and wine were outstanding. Though not inexpensive, the portions were more than ample and I ended the evening with "leftovers." All in all, a very good and memorable dining experience. I would certainly give a very positive recommendation.
Easter brunch, somewhat disappointed. Drinks, bloody mary quite good, mimosa disappointing. Starters, tomato bisque good, other starter items mediocre at best, limited choices for sure. Prime rib a flop, over done and tough, no au jus available. Vegetable line poorly served and obviously there for an extended time, asparagus tough, potatoes cool. Ambiance left much to be desire -- almost like coming into active bar early in the morning before prime staff on duty. Most likely will not return for dinner service, just felt let down.
Incredible food. Service a little slow. Dinner took 3 hours - that was only downside if one. Everything is a la carte and expensive but also what you would expect from a 5 star steakhouse. Football cute but a little weird to have sitting on your table (and I love Don Shula). Overall awesome - servers professional and efficient. Will come again!
Our food was delicious but I do not believe it was worth the price. Unfortunately, our service was very poor and drastically effected our overall experience. The waiter seemed extremely nervous, gave incorrect information multiple times about the menu, brought out the wrong entree, never brought requested drinks or brought them 15 minutes later after multiple reminders, never brought a side dish that was ordered and when reminded he asked if we even still wanted it b/c it would take another 10 minutes, told us we wouldn’t want more bread when we requested it, and never offered dessert even though we stated multiple times we were there to celebrate a birthday. Personally, I believe when you are going to a restaurant that prides itself on a football team having a perfect season and charges $30-$50 per entree then I expect a waiter who has more experience at fine dining establishments. I don’t think he would have been hired at Outback. It was very unfortunate as this was to be a special occasion for my family member.
Great visit! Will be coming back.
Food was good, service was mediocre. The waitstaff wasn't as attentive as you'd expect for a high-end steakhouse. Or maybe I am mis-categorizing this place. Also feel that selling football merchandise in the menu seems a bit tacky, despite the history and the story. I'll go back, but it's not perfect.
Steak dinner was excellent and cooked to perfection. Server was attentive and met every request.
The host and hostess are great. Food excellent, and the attention you get throughout the evening is awesome. Can’t wait to come back.
Food was delicious but very pricy sides. They should not cost that much for a baked potato or asparagus
I cant say enough of how well the entire staff treated me family. The food was excellent and steaks were prepared perfect!!
Service was slow, very slow. I will never visit again. The environment is basically a hotel conference room. Friendly overworked staff with no time to service all the tables., I went to the hotel bar to buy a second drink as the service was slow.
We have always dined at Fleming's but we wanted to give Shula's a shot, unfortunately we may never go back to Shula's again! The service was great! Our Server was courteous and friendly and attentive. However, cannot say the same for the ambience or the Kitchen, my wife's first, second or third choices were not available though were on the menu for the 31st night. My first choice for the 12oz fillet mignon was not available either nor the second choice of filet mignon trio. My wife contacted Shula's Monday Jan 2, and sent a review and no one has contacted her so far from the restaurant. It shows lack of professionalism. Quite disappointed with the whole experience.
We were there for 3 hours for New Year Eve dinner we hardly saw our waitress and kept asking other staff for help
Food is excellent. Filet Mignon melts in your mouth. Restaurant is a bit chilly bring a sweater. We enjoyed the evening. Waiter was friendly and knowledgeable but not very attentive.
I wanted to do something special for my husband and Shula's exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere and experience brought my husband to tears. The food was amazing and the staff very attentive to our dining experience. They made sure that the we enjoyed every moment of our dining experience. We will definitely be back!
Have been to this Shula's three times in the last couple of years. Other two visits were great, no complaints. This time we had to send back the baked potato because it was hard inside. And when it came back, it still wasn't cooked. A good steak place should know how to cook a baked potato. The waitress did offer to redo it but we didn't want to wait again and the steak was getting cold, so we ate the more cooked parts. What I was really disappointed with was that they still charged me for the potato. This makes me not want to come back, unfortunately. A restaurant as expensive as this one is (we spent almost 400 dollars) should be better at customer service.
We have been to this location and others on several occasions and unfortunately, this visit may have been our last.
The service was great, even tipped an additional $80 over the 20%, but the quality of the food this time was underwhelming at best.
The side dishes were good, but they were out of a couple of key steak choices, which is surprising as that is their claim to fame. The steaks we did order didn't seem up to par with the quality we usually receive.
With a total bill of over $1,000, we certainly should have walked out looking forward to coming back, but unfortunately, that is not the case. We will stick to Ruth's in the future.
I have visited this restaurant many times, always great experiences, this visit, not so much. The food was good, not great and my expectations of Shula’s are high so this time it didn’t measure up but the worse part was the service. I have become accustomed to exceptional service when I dine here and I’m willing to pay a very high price for it so when the service is not better that a road house steakhouse I know that something is very wrong. The wait staff was obviously undertrained but that should not be my problem, these two waitresses did not know how to present their menu and I knew a lot more about their steaks that they did. One of my guests was a visitor from overseas and a first-timer at Shula’s so I asked the waitress to describe the Shula’s Cut, she had no clue. It was very disappointing.
Food was delicious! Service was good up until the end and we had to wait a good 20 min to get our check. But overall a very nice experience.
Food was outstanding and so was the service. Our waitress was awesome.
The Thanksgiving meal we had was spectacular. I haven’t had food that good since my mother cooked her last Thanksgiving meal 9 years ago. The turkey was tender and juicy. The gravy was delicious -homemade. The freshly made sourdough bread made me think I was in San Francisco. If you love good good, go to Shula’s.
Shula's bills itself as a high-end steakhouse, and that's its problem. When I think steakhouse, I think old school paneling or even earth-tone decor. Shula's feels like an extension of the hotel lobby, overly-bright, unimaginatively decorated. To look at the place, it could just as easily be a deli with white table cloths.
The food, once it arrived (and there's the tell for what's coming), was perfectly adequate. My 6-ounce filet was perfectly cooked and well-seasoned, and the French onion soup held its own with some of the best I've had. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the end of the good news. My mashed potatoes arrived stiff and lukewarm. My martini felt like a short-pour.
We were a group of eight, and our food arrived in four waves, the first three about five minutes apart, and the last meal coming after the rest of us had thrown in the towel on being polite and had already finished our meals. Trust me, we would have complained if a server had ever checked up on us. Dirty dishes and glassware stacked up in the middle of the table, and no amount of waving or semaphore could attract the attention of the wait staff, who clearly had more important customers than we.
Finally, when the lady who I presume to be the manager stopped by and heard our tale--the eighth member of our party still had not received his food--the best she could do for him was give him a free dessert. And this for a man who doesn't like desserts.
Then there was the final insult: the auto-added gratuity on each of the checks.
Every restaurant has an off-night, so maybe this was the case at Shula's. But I, for one, will not be giving them a second chance.
We visited Shulas for my birthday back in October and it was the worst experience ever.
First we ordered soft drinks and they were flat. We ordered the calamri appetizer and they weren't fresh, very rubbery. Our entries too 30 minutes to arrive and they came out cold. I ordered my steak medium came well done. Second steak came medium rare. Wife had the scallops which where gritty and also cold which she sent back. During this whole time the manager NEVER came to our table to apologize for a night of total blunders. Waitress did her best, but she wasn't being backed up by the kitchen not management.
Please, please don't waste your hard earned money or time going here. I suggest Fleming's, Morton's, Buckheads.
We had and excellent experience at Shula’s. Celebrated our anniversary and the staff made it a memorable evening. A special quiet booth in the corner, an anniversary greeting on the table and a special dessert were nice touches. The service was excellent and the steaks were some of the best we have had in the area. Folks are missing out on this place, maybe due to its somewhat remote location. Worth the trip.
Steaks melt in your mouth. Fantastic sides and service. Will definitely eat there again.
WOW what an evening!! Loved the steak and the company (my wife). I will definitely be back.
We went as a result of a birthday. The food and service was excellent.
Great atmosphere, staff excellent and food awesome
Bread was good, Salad good, the steak and fish were NOT good! the service was below average with Kathryn, TJ did all the work and tried, very disappointing, I ate here 2 times this week and it was worst the second time. Not sure how they are opened. No one was eating here and I know no why it was empty. I have eaten at Shula across the USA and have always enjoyed. I doubt I will ever eat at another Shula. I know I will NEVER eat at this one again. The Hilton hotel is excellent though. The restaurant is not up to standards that you would expect in Shula.
I hope the Coach can turn this place around. Good luck try somewhere else.
My husband ordered a drink and when it was made incorrectly, the staff quickly remade it to his exact specifications. We had a wonderful father's day lunch and such amazing service. Can't wait until we go back.
We had a wonderful experience, and will be going back again. The food was great, however not a fan of the bread they bring out before the meal.
This was my second visit to this particular Shula's, and I wanted to take my 12 year old daughter for a special mother-daughter evening. It was very quiet, the staff was extremely attentive; and the food was very good. We especially enjoyed the lobster bisque. I do want to note that the barbequed shrimp is not New Orleans style so make sure you know what to expect. As I told the server, this dish was "good enough to eat but not to repeat." We will definitely return.
The filet and mushrooms were outstanding. The truffle steak fries were very dry and dissappointing. When we mentioned it, the waiter took the fries off the bill.
We opted for the lounge as opposed to the restaurant to take advantage of the openness and more casual setting. The lounge menu was more appropriate and affordable for the occasion and was the perfect setting for friends to gather. The drinks were pricey so we kept the drinks to a minimum. The server was efficient but not really engaging. In fact, she seemed to stick strictly to taking and delivering orders.
Service was extremely slow and food was disappointing from taste to quality was poor. Would not recommend this place. So disappointed because two years ago for Mother's Day this place was so much better. The quality of food and lack of service was disappointing.
Outstanding in every way. Food, service and ambience were terrific. Frankly, probably the best meal and service I've had in Richmond.
We went early so the restaurant was not busy. The service was excellent. The waitresses ( we had two for our table) did not rush us. We ordered appetizers fresh oysters and a salad with tomatoes avacados and mozerella cheese . We did not place out entree order until we finshed those. The timing between the appetizers and the steaks was not rushed either . The steaks were superb and cooked exactly like we ordered. We would go back to eat there again
Excellent steaks! Best in town as far as we are concerned. Mushroom ravioli is fantastic. This is our choice of restaurants for special occasions.
The absolute best NY Strip steak I have ever eaten! Generous portions, excellent side dishes and great service.
Always delicious! Had the 6 oz filet mignon and you really don't need a steak knife to cut it, it's so tender you can cut it with a butter knife! Highly recommend the crab mac and cheese and the fried Brussels sprouts so yummy! Had an excellent Margarita, they didn't skimp in the alcohol. This is our go to place for a special occasion and if you sign up, the birthday person get s free entree which is a great deal because it is pricey but you won't be disappointed.! We prefer Shula's over Ruth's Chris.
