Shula's bills itself as a high-end steakhouse, and that's its problem. When I think steakhouse, I think old school paneling or even earth-tone decor. Shula's feels like an extension of the hotel lobby, overly-bright, unimaginatively decorated. To look at the place, it could just as easily be a deli with white table cloths.
The food, once it arrived (and there's the tell for what's coming), was perfectly adequate. My 6-ounce filet was perfectly cooked and well-seasoned, and the French onion soup held its own with some of the best I've had. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the end of the good news. My mashed potatoes arrived stiff and lukewarm. My martini felt like a short-pour.
We were a group of eight, and our food arrived in four waves, the first three about five minutes apart, and the last meal coming after the rest of us had thrown in the towel on being polite and had already finished our meals. Trust me, we would have complained if a server had ever checked up on us. Dirty dishes and glassware stacked up in the middle of the table, and no amount of waving or semaphore could attract the attention of the wait staff, who clearly had more important customers than we.
Finally, when the lady who I presume to be the manager stopped by and heard our tale--the eighth member of our party still had not received his food--the best she could do for him was give him a free dessert. And this for a man who doesn't like desserts.
Then there was the final insult: the auto-added gratuity on each of the checks.
Every restaurant has an off-night, so maybe this was the case at Shula's. But I, for one, will not be giving them a second chance.
We had and excellent experience at Shula’s. Celebrated our anniversary and the staff made it a memorable evening. A special quiet booth in the corner, an anniversary greeting on the table and a special dessert were nice touches. The service was excellent and the steaks were some of the best we have had in the area. Folks are missing out on this place, maybe due to its somewhat remote location. Worth the trip.
Bread was good, Salad good, the steak and fish were NOT good! the service was below average with Kathryn, TJ did all the work and tried, very disappointing, I ate here 2 times this week and it was worst the second time. Not sure how they are opened. No one was eating here and I know no why it was empty. I have eaten at Shula across the USA and have always enjoyed. I doubt I will ever eat at another Shula. I know I will NEVER eat at this one again. The Hilton hotel is excellent though. The restaurant is not up to standards that you would expect in Shula.
I hope the Coach can turn this place around. Good luck try somewhere else.
This was my second visit to this particular Shula's, and I wanted to take my 12 year old daughter for a special mother-daughter evening. It was very quiet, the staff was extremely attentive; and the food was very good. We especially enjoyed the lobster bisque. I do want to note that the barbequed shrimp is not New Orleans style so make sure you know what to expect. As I told the server, this dish was "good enough to eat but not to repeat." We will definitely return.
We opted for the lounge as opposed to the restaurant to take advantage of the openness and more casual setting. The lounge menu was more appropriate and affordable for the occasion and was the perfect setting for friends to gather. The drinks were pricey so we kept the drinks to a minimum. The server was efficient but not really engaging. In fact, she seemed to stick strictly to taking and delivering orders.
Service was extremely slow and food was disappointing from taste to quality was poor. Would not recommend this place. So disappointed because two years ago for Mother's Day this place was so much better. The quality of food and lack of service was disappointing.
We went early so the restaurant was not busy. The service was excellent. The waitresses ( we had two for our table) did not rush us. We ordered appetizers fresh oysters and a salad with tomatoes avacados and mozerella cheese . We did not place out entree order until we finshed those. The timing between the appetizers and the steaks was not rushed either . The steaks were superb and cooked exactly like we ordered. We would go back to eat there again
Always delicious! Had the 6 oz filet mignon and you really don't need a steak knife to cut it, it's so tender you can cut it with a butter knife! Highly recommend the crab mac and cheese and the fried Brussels sprouts so yummy! Had an excellent Margarita, they didn't skimp in the alcohol. This is our go to place for a special occasion and if you sign up, the birthday person get s free entree which is a great deal because it is pricey but you won't be disappointed.! We prefer Shula's over Ruth's Chris.
Quite pretentious compared to other high end steakhouses. Lovely steaks, fantastic scallops, great brussel sprouts but awful mashed potatoes - how can they get such a simple dish wrong? - dry, tasteless, from a packet? Service started OK (restaurant fairly empty) until a large group arrived, when all the focus switched to them. Waited ages for espressos only to be told the reason was because Starbucks was closed and they had to find the key to open it!! Would not return.
The food was excellent and perfectly prepared. The taste was superior for the steak and sides. The wine was splendid. I enjoyed the atmosphere, even though the people next to us were loud and rude. It was much quieter when they left, but by then we were almost finished. We stayed longer to enjoy the improved atmosphere. The manager came over to make sure we were satisfied with our visit. Her words were comforting since I think she was aware of the loud couple next to us. As I said, they did not stand in the way of a perfect evening at Shula's. We look forward to returning soon! We went to Shula's for my birthday becasue we were both hungry for a good steak. There were very few other diners, but otherwise it did not disappoint. We shared a Caesar to begin, followed by two filets which came with bernaise sauce. We ordered the steak fries and sauteed mushroom to share and finished with the lava cake which was over the top. Our server was professional and attentive without being intrusive. The only complaint I would have is with the wine list. While extensive and interesting, it is very pricey. The wines by the glass list could be more refined.
We have been to this location before and enjoyed it. This time around, we were disappointed. There was a large crowd in the hotel lobby and the noise spilled over into the restaurant. We were there to celebrate our anniversary and the noise took away from our romantic mood. I noticed another couple was unhappy about this too and asked to be moved. In addition, we thought our service was only ok. The waitress was not very attentive and our meal seemed to take forever. The meal was delicious but for that price tag we expected more in terms of service and ambience.
I went to the Original, years ago... Today's Shula's is unfortunately, just like today's Ruth's, overpriced and short on originality and value. Wait staff is just interested in getting you whatever, whenever in order to up-sell the ticket, and hence the tip, they don't listen to your order or your requests, and then think a sorry is all that needs to be said. We waited forever for our food and the place was near empty. Bottom line, expect more from the place3s you are expected to spend $100 a plate minimum....
Steak came not cooked correctly the offered to redo but declined do to never sending food back when not happy , and for price the steak should of been right, refills of water not good for price of restaurant and service was ok outback steak house would be the same quality for half the price disappointed
Three of us ordered the seared scallops for $25 for lunch, and we got three small scallops that were not seared, just white, rubbery and no sauce. They were on two tablespoons of corn salsa with a small scoop of plain mashed potatoes . I was finished with the meal in about three minutes. With tip it was over $30 for three scallops that were poorly cooked. The waiter had recommended the dish and when I complained to the manager, they did nothing about it. I think they do better on steak, but the restaurant is way over-priced for the quality of food.
Service was excellent but Thanksgiving Neal was underwhelming. Prime rib over cooked no aus ju, veggies over cooked do not mind al dente. Plus nasty lettuce in salad that I had to pick out and salad dressing was disappointing. Did not feel we got our $40 per plate money's worth but service was excellent. The good news: The steak (filet) was truly excellent. Great cut, cooked perfectly, tasted great. The French onion soup was fine. The asparagus side dish was excellent. The bad news: For this lunch, I was taking an employee for a recognition lunch. Instead of eating in the dining room, we were placed in the "lounge," which is basically the Hilton hotel lobby/bar. We were the only people there, so it was a little odd. No linen on the table; just the standard bar lounge. The staff was very pleasant, but our food took almost exactly one hour to arrive. That was tough, and not the employee recognition experience I was hoping for. I just expect more from a $150 lunch with no alcohol on the tab!
We enjoyed the dinner experience as it was about what we expected. The hostess and waiters were on top of their game and made us feel welcome. Was mildly disappointed that they did not acknowledge that it was our anniversary which I had listed in the reservation document. My wife would have liked that.
