Celebrate Mom at Shula's!
Sunday, May 13, 2018
Shula's Grill in Norfolk has the best staff, the best service, the best steaks and absolutely the best Apple Bread Pudding I've ever tasted! This was a birthday celebration, which we look forward to every year, it's the only place I ask to go!
A special shout out to Rashida, who served us throughout the entire meal. She is a gem, one in a million and whoever hired her should be proud. In fact, Rashida should get a raise! She was a delight, polite and anxious to help us. Thanks Rashida!
We went to this restaurant because we were provided a $50 credit as part of our hotel stay. The food was excellent. We ordered the barbecue shrimp appetizer, the crab cake entree, the scallop entree, and the creme brulee. We enjoyed each of the dishes but they were pricey. Without the credit, we would not have chosen this restaurant. There was no one at the host table so we had to find someone to seat us. Our waiter, Robert, was very friendly and made the experience enjoyable. If it wasn't for Robert, we would have give service only 2 stars since there was no one available to seat us.
The service from the wait staff was outstanding and the food was OK. But as far as cowboy steaks go I have had better at places like Gallagher's, Smith and Wollensky's or even other Shula locations. The meat was cooked as ordered and it was ok but it wasn't the best cut of ribeye I've had at Shula's before and seemed comparable to the bone in cowboy at Outback, not a great Shula cut.
One of the worst dining experiences I've had in some time. I took my wife, son, daughter-in-law and three granddaughters out to celebrate a successful book signing. First they sat us next to the bar instead of the regular dining areas. Then when my food was served the first steak was overcooked. They took it back and brought a second steak that had barely been passed over the grill and was almost totally raw. When they finally brought that one back I tried to eat, but the steak and both sides were so totally over salted they were practically inedible. I did eat the steak, but passed on the sides. The manager came out and offered a free dessert. I passed. They did take the one meal off the tab. One of the servers said this happens all the time with the one cook.
Our experience was not the best. Managers were made aware of our issues.
Our dining experience was great. Food was done to perfection.
I love this place and Alecia was amazing!! She was so great the first time, we asked for her this time too.
Since 2013, my mom and I have celebrated our birthdays here every year!!! Our waitress Alecia was the best we'd ever had!! So attentive, informative and on point. Last Valentine's Day my love took me there because I'd taken him on his bday and he loved it!!
Really good service. Food was about a 7-8 ona scale of 10.
I loved my experience!! Food was great!! Restaurant was clean and intimate. Customer service was superb!
Service was very good. Ambiance was nice. Food was good but not great to match the prices.
Great steak -
Whenever we want a steak, we go to Shula's 347. The Shula Cut is amazing no matter what size you get. Your knife glides through like it's soft butter. Juicy, flavorful and enough to satisfy your appetite and still have some left over for a luncheon salad! The best!
This is wonderful spot for anything from great drinks, to lunch, to a special dinner. Shula's has great steaks and seafood. Everything we had was very well prepared; from calamari, excellent burgers, scallops and NY strip steak. We can't wait to return.
The waitress was exceptional. Dining area down the steps was unbearably warm at first but waitress contacted hotel staff to fix the issue. Filet was ordered medium well but came out extremely overcooked and tasted like it was burned. Shame for a 40 dollar steak.
The food was good we ordered chicken and filet mignon. My only complaint was we waited over one hour to be served are dinner.
Service was excellent. Food was tasty albeit a bit on the smaller side for the entrée. Otherwise, no complaints at all for a hotel restaurant.
We had wanted to come dine at Shulas for a long time..both big football fans..I'm from Miami have met Coach Shula..our experience was better than we had hoped.. As it was my wife's birthday.. She was treated special.. Great food and service.. Great evening..
Our waiter Percy was very helpful, he gave myself and my wife details of their specials and told us the popular dishes that were ordered the most
I'm a big football fanatic so automatically I enjoyed , but I was surprised at how much my date actually enjoyed , the food was great, the service was great, pricey but well worth it
Could have been better, long waite for food, my steak was very bland and to tough to be prepared medium, and I think it's overpriced, however the martinis are excellent, and the desert was delicious. And our server was very helpful, and attentive all evening.
Horrible not worth the money poor service and cold food.
We dined at Shula's for a pre- Valentines Day meal. The service was great even though it took a while for our meals to arrive! The food was very good once it arrived. The portions were a good size and everything tasted very fresh. Our waiter was very professional, attentive, and respectful. Our meal was part of a package deal with the hotel. We had a voucher with our meal and presented it at the time of payment. There weren't any exclusions listed or perameters on how we coukd spend our $100 credit but when the waiter presented it to what I think was management the person proceeded to fuss this poor young man out where we could see it happening. Only when he saw us watching dis he move him but still not to a private spot, just out of our site. The young man had worked hard to give us the best service possibly could and to see him treated like that was disheartening. It put a bad ending on our otherwise positive experience. Anything that wasn't right was clearly not the wait staff's problem. We asked him about it when he returned to the table but the young man never broke his professional posture and simply said there wasn't a problem and everything was just fine but we knew that wasn't true.
We mentioned what great service he provided on our way out.
Outiside of that we had a good experience there.
Our party of 8 hit Shula's before attending a concert in Downtown Norfolk. Our reservation was for 6:00ppm but we were not seated until close to 6:30 which made our timetable very tight to get to the show. The variety of food was good for group offering anything from salads to sandwiches to full dinner meals. Our server was excellent and attentive to our needs. Overall very good experience and we would do it again. Bonus points that we were able to make the reservation on Open Table which made it super easy!
My husband and I ate here and were extremely disappointed in the quality of the food and how overpriced it was. IT is a shame too because the staff there was so great and the service was fantastic. They just need to definitely improve the food.
We had been to Shula's once before for Valentine's Day and it was wonderful, so we decided to take our son there for New Year's. He's a football fanatic, so we thought he would enjoy the memorabilia at the restaurant. We arrived early, so it wasn't very busy. Our waitress was polite, but seemed frazzled, like she had too many tables. I ordered a cocktail and was told that their bar wasn't stocked with my drink, so the waitress had to go to the hotel's bar to make the drink, which took several minutes. We ordered a Magherita Flatbread and Tuna Bites for Appetizers. The Flatbread was soggy and tasted like soap, so we barely ate it and the Tuna was ok with the sauce provided. My husband and I both ordered their Steak Oscar Special, which was the steak of our choice with 4 oz. of crab meat on top. When the steaks arrived, my steak was cooked medium on the inside as I requested, but tasted so burnt on the outside that I didn't want to eat it. My husband's was slightly better, but he too, felt that his steak was not cooked properly. Our Asparagus was burnt on the ends and bitter. I would have to say the highlight of the meal was the potatoes. They were quite good, but of course when you are paying almost $50 for a steak, it's a little bit sad that the potatoes were the best part. This meal was a pretty bad way to end our year and I highly doubt we will be returning to Shula's any time soon.
The experience was fantastic. From the moment we arrived we were extremely welcomed. They had a table reserved labeled as anniversary. This was our first time there and the server was wonderful explaining everything about the menu and the restaurant. She made excellent suggestions as to our meals and drinks. We even received a complimentary desert as a nice surprise. Thanks for the great evening.
We had a good time at Shula's celebrating my husband's 50th birthday. We had appetizers, drinks and entrees. Our server brought out the cake I had brought and I sliced it. The food was wonderful, from the Steak Oscar (steak with crab meat on top) to the BBQ cheeseburger! The prices are pretty steep, but it is a great place for a special occasion. We have also celebrated my son's graduation from high school a few years ago. We even had the same table! A great place for special occasions.
Excellent food and service, and the atmosphere was nice. However, with an entirely open restaurant all lunch parties the day I went were being seated downstairs. Four of the five were clearly business lunches, people looking to speak with their colleagues in a semi-quiet environment. The fifth party was clearly comprised of vacationers with three very young, and very LOUD children. Made it hard to have any discussions. I'd suggest seating this type of party in another area of the restaurant, or, spreading out your seating during the lunch hour.
Our experience started off bad when we showed up for our reservation only to find out they didn't have a table available. They squeezed our party of 5 into a booth in the entry hallway where the servers like to stop and chit chat with each other and people waiting for tables like to lurk. Both steaks came out completely undercooked. The server was aware that the steaks were not cooked to our preference and did nothing to rectify the situation. Luckily my husband was too hungry to care and ate both his and my steak, so it wasn't a complete waste of money. Kids chicken tenders were your typical frozen tenders, No big deal. The burger came out completely charred and had to be cut in half and eaten from the center, leaving the burnt edges behind. We've been here before and had enjoyed the food a lot. Service was also bad the time before, but our steaks had been so good we decided to come back. Not again... I see no point in spending $130 on dinner only to leave hungry.
The last time we went to Shula's I was told by the server that I needed to try the steak. Well this time I did and MY GOD was the steak OUTSTANDING. My steak was cooked just right and if I had known better I would have ordered one to go.
Had a friend in from overseas, who was staying in downtow Norfolk and wanted to get a good burger and beer.
Shula's is a great choice. Reasonably priced gourmet burgers and beer.
We were not disappointed. Burgers were juicy and flavorful, and the fries were done perfectly.
Nice causal atmosphere, but the bar can get noisy, so recommend you get a table if you want to converse and catch up.
Everything was great! Love the she crab soup! Terrific service, friendly people. Nice way to celebrate. Thanks Shula's👍🏻
The service and server was wonderful. Menu recommendations were delightful and tasty. I enjoyed the atmosphere and plan to go back again this time for the steak.
We had a good dinner. The spinach artichoke dip was a great way to start. We can also recommend the Caesar salad with beef tips as well as the burgers. I would skip the Key Lime Pie though. Our waitress was very nice and worked really hard. Especially if you are staying at the Marriott this is a great place to eat.
Great food, service and they also know how to prepare superb cocktails. Whenever we are in the area, we try to stop by for libations or a meal.
Shulas is located in the Marriott, and is geared toward business travelers in alignment with the hotel.
I was disappointed because I had contacted the resturant prior to arriving to ask if they could accommodate a low sodium restricted diet. They said they could, but when ordering our server was unsure of how to handle my request. I would not recommend this resturant for anyone with an allergy restriction, and we would not eat hear again.
went there with my husband as well as y family had an awesome time. the food was great. try the crab cakes, spinich dip, calamari, steak, the place is overall good. i am not a dolphin fan but the food is very good. in the words of a very good friend fins up baby.
If you have ever been to Shula"s Steak House your sure to like the 347 Grill. The crab cakes appetizers were some of the best I have had. The Blu Burger with bacon was second to none and the steak sandwich must have been made with one of the prime steaks from the steak house. This is a place not to miss when in town.
Seafood-beef combinations are exceptional. Great place for quality, valet parking, friendly welcomes and awesome help. Wine list had lots of opportunities, bar was busy with activity, ambiance is warm and "oaken".
