Shula's 347 Grill at the Marriott Norfolk Waterside Ratings and Reviews
This was the second time we have eaten at Shula's, and we were just as impressed as the first time we went many years ago. The wait staff is very friendly, the food is DELICIOUS, and it's a nice place to go for a date night. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Husband had the BBQ shrimp appetizer (2 huge shrimp) & I had the Caesar salad. We both had the boneless sirloin strip. It was a very nice portion, cooked/grilled perfectly. It came with delicious smashed potatoes (with the skin left on) and a corn sauce topping the steak. We were so full that we took our desserts home - silky key lime pie and a decadent chocolate cream torte.
Food was excellent and great portion sizes for restaurant week. One of the best steaks i have had for some time. Cooked perfectly! My wifes pan seared salmon was outstanding. Great drinks and the service was excellent as well! We were very pleased with our experience!
Always try to be understanding when a place is packed that service may be a bit slow, but when there are only a handful of others in the restaurant slow service has no excuse. Though our food got to the table in pretty quick time, finding the server for more water & coffee was an adventure. Even if you could find them, they almost seemed to avoid eye contact. It was so bad, finally got up & found the coffee pot myself just to get a second cup. Walked out without our leftovers, because we finally gave up waiting for the server to return.
This place was not vibrant at all. Servers are ok, but not too energetic. Food took a long time to serve. Dishes were salty. Food presentation could be better. Setting was depressing. For a restaurant in the heart of downtown, in a nice hotel, this place should be more alive. We went there for Christmas dinner. We did not feel the holiday spirit. We wanted a steak place that is more reasonable with price of entrees. Shula's was disappointing. My group is going back to Ruth Chris next year.
A very underwhelming experience. We felt like we were an inconvenience to the server, the food was sort of 'wanna be gourmet'; the proteins were overcooked, but the risotto was under - overall the food lacked depth in flavor. The feel of the place is disconnected; the bar is quaint and the staff was friendly, then we moved to our dinner seating - a table with it's own flat screen TV, not really a cozy experience. The waitress wouldn't look directly at us and when reciting specials or answering questions, spoke quickly and was nearly unintelligible. Perhaps instead of trying to be a fine dining establishment, they should take a stab at more of a sports bar with burgers and such.
First experience with Shula's. The food and service were good but when told a baked potato would take an hour to cook after 25 minutes of waiting on our food it was extremely disappointing. We ate the $38 steak without and weren't offered any kind of compensation.
Excellent steak and veggies. The online menu needs to be updated, I actually wanted the prime rib which was not available. A very busy night due to multiple activities in the area so noisy and slow service. Red wine at true room temperature so naturally it was too warm. I knew from the online menu there was more wine selections to be had but I had to ask for the wine menu. The one on the back of the food menu is limited. Server forgot my added side, I didn't remind her because it would have been too late for my steak which was already served. Server late getting water to the table, had to remind her, again very busy night what with a race, bridge tournament, opening of Christmas towne, and the annual holiday parade. Not as expensive as we expected but not for poor people either. We will be back, hopefully at a not so busy time.
Have visited this restaurant many times. This was a disappointing visit only in that the service was not up to their usual standards. We had dinner reservations for the evening of the Grand Illumination in Norfolk. Apparently the restaurant was short on staff and this disrupted smooth and timely service.
I was very disappointed in the overall experience. I have eaten in several fine steakhouses across the east coast. Price is never an issue when it comes to eating a good quality of meat and fine dining. Price was definitely an issue at this resturaunt because the dining experience, presentation and quality were very disappointing.
Service was slow, and food delivery was slow. Waitress rarely came by and eve drink orders took forever. I had maybe 2 refills of tea. Not well organized as an example, waitress would wait forix drinks to be made to also bring tea, which is not a good method since it causes delays.
We enjoyed a nice dinner at Shulas while we were staying at the Marriott. We each had hamburgers which were good but the service was just ok. We had to wait each time to get our drink refills. We eventually had to flag down another server to get water. The atmosphere would have been nicer if another table sitting in our section hadn't been so loud.
Had 530 reservations, seated with no problems. Sat in lower dining room. Sat two tables away from a group of 6, with an obnoxious laughing lady. Very loud. Until they left it was a lousy atmosphere. Ordered my 8oz fillet med rare to med. Steak was rare to med rare. Very bloody with a hint of purple... one of me sides was Cole slaw, it was served warm, not very tasty. A shinning light was our server. Very professional. Although she should have gone to the other table and told the obnoxious woman to tone it down.
Took my wife and son for their birthday dinner. This was without a doubt the best meal we have ever had. We all had steaks of course.. the meat was so tender and flavorful none us used any seasoning and that never happens. The rest of meal was just as great. The service was outstanding. We have not stopped talking about it since. And we. Are already looking forward to the next visit.
Located in the Marriott Norfolk Waterside, Schula's is convenient for hotel guests and for others visiting the area. The bar is well-stocked, the wine list substantial and the food well prepared and well presented by a capable staff. We dined here several times and found each experience to be satisfying. Since my wife and I enjoy "small" plates the restaurant was happy to split an entree and sides with no additional cost.
Shula's Grill in Norfolk has the best staff, the best service, the best steaks and absolutely the best Apple Bread Pudding I've ever tasted! This was a birthday celebration, which we look forward to every year, it's the only place I ask to go!
A special shout out to Rashida, who served us throughout the entire meal. She is a gem, one in a million and whoever hired her should be proud. In fact, Rashida should get a raise! She was a delight, polite and anxious to help us. Thanks Rashida!
We went to this restaurant because we were provided a $50 credit as part of our hotel stay. The food was excellent. We ordered the barbecue shrimp appetizer, the crab cake entree, the scallop entree, and the creme brulee. We enjoyed each of the dishes but they were pricey. Without the credit, we would not have chosen this restaurant. There was no one at the host table so we had to find someone to seat us. Our waiter, Robert, was very friendly and made the experience enjoyable. If it wasn't for Robert, we would have give service only 2 stars since there was no one available to seat us.
The service from the wait staff was outstanding and the food was OK. But as far as cowboy steaks go I have had better at places like Gallagher's, Smith and Wollensky's or even other Shula locations. The meat was cooked as ordered and it was ok but it wasn't the best cut of ribeye I've had at Shula's before and seemed comparable to the bone in cowboy at Outback, not a great Shula cut.
One of the worst dining experiences I've had in some time. I took my wife, son, daughter-in-law and three granddaughters out to celebrate a successful book signing. First they sat us next to the bar instead of the regular dining areas. Then when my food was served the first steak was overcooked. They took it back and brought a second steak that had barely been passed over the grill and was almost totally raw. When they finally brought that one back I tried to eat, but the steak and both sides were so totally over salted they were practically inedible. I did eat the steak, but passed on the sides. The manager came out and offered a free dessert. I passed. They did take the one meal off the tab. One of the servers said this happens all the time with the one cook.
Since 2013, my mom and I have celebrated our birthdays here every year!!! Our waitress Alecia was the best we'd ever had!! So attentive, informative and on point. Last Valentine's Day my love took me there because I'd taken him on his bday and he loved it!!
