The Zagat Restaurant Survey coins Shuckers as a 'Seattle classic' that is one of the 'best seafood restaurants in town' with 'great ambiance' and 'excellent service.'
It was Shuckers before Brandi Carlile and the Symphony .. Wow, What a great start it was... Scallops and Risotto was fabulous... the Crab Salad was wonderful... Even our Hamburger lover was so impressed !! Service was sharp and well done.. and reservations were awaiting .. Thank so much

This restaurant used to be a quintessential Seattle experience—uniquely offering world class seafood with a touch of class and representative of the five-star hotel it is privileged to be a part of. Now it comes across as just another ‘off-the-street’ high-faultin over-priced restaurant trying to get it right. What a shame. This was our special place for more than fifteen years for lunch on a Saturday, and I mean lunch. Now it’s just character less. The quality of the food is subpar and overly salty, the service is well-meaning but inattentive, the portions sparser with the oysters being smaller. Symbolic of the diminished soul of a place and not someplace I would ever recommend to a traveler as a ‘taste of Seattle.’
Food was excellent. Service was fine. I made reservations for just myself and the host asked if I wanted to sit at the bar, which I didn’t since it was loud and I was dining solo. Plus I made reservations..
I asked for a small table tucked away and he sat me in the bar on a high top right next to the Specials Board overlooking the entire restaurant.
It was super awkward.
This was an exceptional restaurant! From the woman who took our reservation to the hostess and bartender we were treated like family. But most of all Darla, our waitress made our night. She was the waitress we have ever had! The food was fantastic too!
We are always happy to dine at Shuckers. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and do everything to make us feel welcome. We’ll be back soon!
Wonderful experience with the exception of the oysters Rockefeller which my wife was disappointed with. There must have been a different preparation than what we had experienced back East. Otherwise a great meal and overall experience. Thanks again. We probably should have spoken up but it was Valentines Day and didn’t want to let it spoil the occasion.
Great service & food. Was seated at a preferred/requested table courteously - even when it originally wasn't available.
Poor service. Waiter was not knowledgeable about the food or drink menu and brought courses out poorly timed. Rockefeller oysters were bland. Salad was bland and underwhelming. Derby Bird cocktail was refreshing and pleasant.
I appreciated that although my party arrived 15 minutes early to our lunch reservation, we were able to be seated straight away. Thank you for a wonderful lunch. Great, friendly service was a compliment to the outstanding meal itself.

Suggest they will hire waiters know their menu well, and know how to calculate basic math. Half dozen of oyster at happy hour is $2×6=$12, not $19!

We took our daughter and boy friend to Shuckers to celebrate her birthday. We had the clam chowder and halibut and chips...it was fantastic! Jenny and Robb had oysters on the half shell as an appetizer and mussels as a main course and they were very satisfied. Our waiter was quite attentive. The overall experience was great!

The food was great. Our server was very knowledgeable and had good recommendations. We had the calamari appetizer and appetizer sized chopped salads. We shared the oysters and opted to try a half dozen raw and a half dozen cooked. We were able to try two different preparations for the cooked oysters. We had read reviews that mentioned the blueberry blackberry pie for dessert, and that was definitely the star of the show. The portion was more than enough to share.

When I made reservation I requested a specific table and didn’t get it. Caesar salad was very mediocre.
Raw oysters were good and smoked oysters were ok. Chocolate cake tasted good, but was so enormous, that it was a bit off putting.

Service was terrific. Very nice oysters to start followed by an excellent Caesar salad. The sablefish was was perfectly prepared. Ended the meal with an two scoops of ice cream that was flavorful and creamy. Especially the cappuccino chip. The last word gin cocktail was superb. Highly recommend the restaurant.

Great oysters. When we were there there was no music which was odd. The food was good, not as good as what we had anticipated though. Left feeling a bit underwhelmed.

We've been to Shuckers a number of times, and have liked the place. This time, for a reason unknown to us, and with the restaurant not even half full, the young man seating us placed us next to a family with 2 small children. When I asked for another table, he said the table he showed us was the table they'd chosen for us and they were expecting a full house. As if that had anything to do with anything. There were a number of other tables for 2 available, and I'd made a reservation, so why not seat us at another table? Within a half hour, he seated 3 other couples at the other tables. I think that person needs to be trained that if someone would like another table, they should be accommodated.
We sat there for at least 10 or more minutes when our waitress rushed over to tell us our drinks orders should be available soon. Of course, no one had taken our order--she'd been misinformed and thought we'd been taken care of for the moment. Having said that, our waitress was lively and engaging, and we liked her very much.
My husband's salmon was delicious, he said. My fish and chips were less successful. The breading around the fish was rubbery and pasty, as if it had been sitting there since the lunch serving. It just wasn't my night.
I'm generally pretty easily pleased, but forcing us to take a table we didn't want began the evening poorly and it declined from there. When we left, there were fewer than 1/3 of the tables filled, far from the 'full house' the guy at the front expected. Shuckers, don't offend someone who's in front of you in order to save better tables for someone who may not show up. Bad judgment.

According to our food server, Shuckers had a substitute chef this night. Either he could not follow recipes or he decided to improvise.
The Oysters Rockefeller were not even close to the menu description and had to be sent back.
The fried oysters had a strange batter which was awful and we sent them back too.
Our food server was apologetic and did the best she could but our night was pretty much ruined by this bad experience.
We have eaten at Shuckers many times over the years and the food has always been spot on- but not on this night.

Food was fantastic. Some of the best crab cakes and scallops we’ve had, but service was pretty slow and our server wasn’t that attentive. I’d go back since the food was exceptional.

cannot beat the fresh oysters. Noise level a it high because folks were having a good time. Wine selection OK, prices as per Four Seasons. Our waiter, Michael, after a mere 17 years there was excellent, outstanding, and personable. A professional !!

Very hit or miss some of the food was great including the smoked oysters and clam chowder but the mains were not seasoned correctly (to salty). I had the scallops and my parent had the Sablefish. Cocktails were underwhelming and overpriced. Server was attentive at the beginning but then seemed to forget we were even there.

Our service was not very good. It took a long time to be greeted and when we were it was not a warm or welcoming greeting. There was some talk by the manager about where to seat us that made it awkward. Our seat was uncomfortably close to another couple to where conversations could not be kept private. It was our wedding anniversary but no one asked if we were celebrating anything. I think the servers were understaffed. It took a while to get attention from our server who seemed inconvenienced and didn’t bother to let us know what their specials for the evening were. The food was fine, but not a great value and not enough to make up for lack of service. I would not return.

Dinner was on New Year’s Eve 2019 so it was expected to be busy and it was. My wife and I were seated promptly. My cocktail was a beefeater dirty martini which was very nice and a good size. Probably a little more olive brine than I make them with but was still very enjoyable. I started out with a 6 raw oyster samplers. They were shucked cleanly and plated very nicely and they all tasted excellent. While waiting for our main meal we were served bread which was barely warm but given how busy they were it's not really a surprise and since that was the worst of the meal just a blip. I had the entree Caesar salad with chicken. Nice proportion and very well done. My wife had the Halibut and chips. The potatoes were well cooked and hot, soft but not mushy. Very nice. At first to me the batter on the halibut looked a little dark but it was thin and crisp, not oily and tasted great so I am guessing the color was from an ingredient, not over cooking. The halibut itself was thoroughly cooked but not overdone and was very light in color and taste and flaky but not overly moist. All in all an excellent meal and I would definitely go there again. Prices to me seemed high but this was in Seattle, which is probably the most expensive city north of San Francisco and the restaurant is located in a hotel. So prices were not really out of line for the rest of downtown Seattle, were a small turkey sandwich and 2 bottled soft drinks can cost almost $20.00.

I have been going to this restaurant for 15+ years and have always loved it and recommended it to friends. Two nights ago we brought friends after having raved about it to them. Much has changed. The seafood chowder had tiny shreds of fish but you could not tell what it was because they were all blended together. There were only 4 types of fish to order when usually there is at least twice that amount. The scallop dinner had only 3 scallops and placed on either risotto or polenta, hard to tell which, instead of the crab whipped potatoes. it was supposed to come with some vegetable but as far as we could see it might have had a few pieces of diced zucchini. The Cesar salad had "anchovy croutons" which was actually very hard crumbles of bread crumbs that were difficult to bite down on. the oysters on the half shell were wonderful as always. Since the food was poor it was not a good value. We will not return. I think they are trying to cut costs by cutting the quality and servings. I am very, very disappointed.

My husband and I were celebrating the holidays and had dinner here. It was the best dinner we’ve had in a long time. I had the sable fish, crispy skin, just the right amount of food. He had the Louie Salad, the 1000 island dressing was obviously made in-house and there was plenty of crab and shrimp. Lastly, the bartender made a killer Cosmo. We’ll definitely go back.

We were met by the host who, from the time i gave her our name and reservation time, to seating us, never once spoke a word to us, not even when we requested she change our table. We've been eating at Shuckers for over 40 years and never had this happen. The wait staff was VERY good. But it took us awhile to overcome the exceptionally rude beginning.

I no longer live in the Seattle area but since I was visiting for the holidays and was attending the 5th Avenue Theatre matinee on a Thursday, I decided to check out one of my favs for lunch prior. It remains top-notch in every aspect. The server could not have been more charming and professional. The seafood chowder was out of this world perfect (I had never had it before) and the Seafood Louie salad continues to be a total hit. I was determined to avoid the fresh rolls but once a close-by table received theirs I had no choice but to acquiesce. Two fresh, warm rolls, one whole wheat, the other sourdough, served with fresh butter. Perfection. I arrived at noon and by 12:30 the place was packed. It really is a Seattle institution for a reason. Since it's located in the lower level of the magnificent Olympic Fairmount Hotel, I checked out the festive Christmas-decorated lobby before heading over the theatre a half a block away. I could not have been happier.
