SHOR - Clearwater Ratings and Reviews
This was our second time having our Thanksgiving dinner here. This year was a bit of a disappointment. Notable the price. But, the desserts were the biggest disappointment. Seriously.....it was as if they bought the little things for their convenience. Others were obviously disappointed as well. Not even anything pumpkin. We ended up stopping at Publix and bought a pie to take home for dessert. At $60 a head.....! Oh well. Next year if its just the two of us I'll get a dinner in a box from Publix!
SHOR is at the Hyatt, which the description ought to reveal. It is not a local seafood restaurant. We had made a reservation to eat there for Thanksgiving, having been told their regular a la carte menu would be available. We got there to discover they only had their brunch and Thanksgiving menu buffets, no table service and no regular menu. We then waited almost half an hour to be seated in spite of reserving ahead of time. The food was mediocre, the service friendly (if not efficient) and the view lovely. However, SHOR has all the ambience of eating in a train station. And we were absolutely shocked when the bill came. Normally wouldn’t pan a restaurant this way, but this is not an experience I would wish on anyone.
My boyfriend and I were visiting Clearwater for a quick getaway. I found Shor on a gluten free app. The restaurant was delicious, very fresh and unique dishes. My boyfriend had some local beers featured on the list. Our server made some suggestions that were really great. Definitely would visit again.
We had a good experience at SHOR. We dined outside on the patio after sunset. It was beautiful. IT wasn't busy at that time, so it was very peaceful. Food was very good. Fried Calamari was done differently than most other restaurants. EXCELLENT! Also, the blackened grouper was very good! Excellent service from the wait staff, very attentive. A little pricy, but worth the experience. Would like to try it again and be there during sunset! Beautiful views of the Gulf.
It is not fine dining.... The food is good... The wine list was minimal. The server was enthusiastic and nice at first, but not very well trained. For most of the meal, we didn't see him... and the place was not crowded. The kitchen, on full display, was noisy, lots of pots clanging. More of a bar annex. Disappointing considering the "reviews". Decor had no atmosphere, sterile and cold.
The food was amazing but I have Celiac Diesease & asked for our meals to be carefully prepared gluten free. Within 30 minutes of finishing our meal I was well aware that the kitchen did not take precautions in handling our food. I spent the entire evening in our room sick, which ruined our weekend getaway. Our waiter, William was outstanding & the manager, Brielle was very helpful & checked on me later. However when the head chef called to speak to me he was rude & basically blamed the incident on the pasta company & their processing procedures. Would have rather him owned up & said they made an error.
Creative menu, our waiter explained the dishes well and offered some menu variations that were very much appreciated. Kitchen seemed to be accommodating to special requests so we were able to create semi-custom entrees. Wrapped up the meal with a very nice surprise dessert for my wife's birthday.
The service was really slow. It took 30 minutes between appetizer and main courses and 20 minutes after main course was finished to get dessert. Our waiter was very gracious but said there were not enough people to help her. The Coffee which took (again) 20 minutes after dessert was finished came cold to crown the experience.
The cost per person was close to $70 with just one drink. No excuse to be short staffed if they charge you that much. Even more, the Restaurant is part of the Hyatt Regency Clearwater.
The food was good but the service hindered its shine.
The view from the restaurant is awesome.
I am disappointed of having to report the news to you all since Hyatt has always have great service,
Our servers were very attentive. Our crabcake appetizer was delicious. My blackened grouper was also delicious. Their drinks were a good size pour. The views of the beach were pretty good. I wish we could have been 1 floor higher to see above the buildings blocking the beach.
It was my husband's birthday and we often stay over for the weekend at the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach for my bday, or his bday or our anniversary. We love everything about the resort, food, service, the Spa, amenities, and of course, last but not least, restaurant SHOR !! Great food, casual (I say that because there aren't table cloths but still very nice and modern), but very nice, atmosphere, super clean, open/beautiful kitchen great service, kid friendly, also great dessert and the staff goes out of their way to please you. They also gave us a delicious complimentary dessert.
We've been going to SHOR since it opened its doors and it's been consistent and great ever since! One thing that would make it even better: add a live jazz band on weekends, like Eddie V's Prime Seafood, and we'd go more often! :)
I was a little disappointed with SHOR. Last yr we had our annual board retreat at the Hyatt and ate at the SHOR. Several of us enjoyed it so much we chose to eat here 2 more times. This year our retreat was held next door at the Wyndham. Because we enjoyed the food so much last year we decided to eat here for dinner our last night here. First of all the restaurant was so hot it really was uncomfortable. Secondly, I ordered the she crab soup, which was totally awesome last year. That's what I was so looking forward to. On the positive side, there was a lot of crab in the soup. On the not so positive side, there were cold spots in the soup and it just wasn't as flavorful as I remember. I also ordered the shrimp and grits which included scallops. The shrimp were way over cooked and tough, the scallops were good but again, the flavor just wasn't there. Lastly, the pretzel buns with butter and mustard that they serve before dinner are awesome. They come out warm and are nice and soft. The service was pretty good as well. Next time I'm in the area I would probably give them another chance. May have just been an off day.
We had an amazing experience at Shor. Our server Aki was great. We started with the Blue Crab Cakes and they were stuffed with crab meat, very delicious. I had the lobster Mac n' cheese and my husband had the yellow grouper, both were amazing. We recommend this restaurant and would go back again!
