Amazing service and food, Get the honey toast!
Attentive staff, delicious food and execution was timely. Will return to our regular eating venue.
This was my first time and we were very excited to try this place. My boyfriend went here before and loved their chicken Katsu. Today, it was not well executed. The chicken was not crispy and fatty. Surprisingly, the honey toast was pretty delicious.... Plus, our server was very attentive and friendly which made our stay enjoyable.
Save room for the honey toast. It is a delightful end to the meal.
Porkchops were delivered about 12 minutes after our other entree....we would prefer to have both orders delivered at the same time...
Went for our anniversary food was amazing, service was excellent (Kaleo) Honey Toast is a must of course
Came here for my birthday dinner. We had the sushi pizza and three other rolls, which were good. But a must is the honey bread.
Menu change was very disappointing. The service was good we had Sean taking care of us. Overall it was very good. Miss the vodka soda drinks once offered there.
Great service! Couldn't be more awesome. Very attentive. Thank you!!!
No wonder that our waiter said: "Everyone comes here." Great food, service and price was very reasonable. Recommended to us by several Honolulu friends.
Our party dined in a separate room which could seat 14 individuals. It was perfect for our family birthday party! Staff was very courteous and helpful. They checked in on us and made sure we had our food and drinks! Ordering the pupus and then ordering dinner items worked out well for us as as a couple of people came a little later but it didn't hold up the party! We brought our own birthday cake which the staff stored for us and then brought out with plates, candles and a knife. It worked out great!!!
Went for Valentine's Day dinner. Food took a long time. Waiter was very apologetic.
Horrible experience! This place has gone DOWN HILL! I thought I’d be a nice place to eat with my family from outer island, for my Dad’s birthday... BIG mistake! The decor was shabby, not in a chic way, the paint was rubbing of decor, dust above, menus were gross, the womens bathroom faucet didn’t work... ugh! The food was okay if you like under cooked shrimp tempura. The dishes that came out wasn’t timed right, one dish came out, 5 minutes later another dish came out, then another, finally after 20 minutes we all had our food. Asked for sushi to have meat medium rare, but it was definitely on the well side. For dessert we had the “honey toast.” It was okay, but not flavored enough, some pieces were like croutons. The other honey toast we had added bananas and caramel, the bananas were waaaay under ripe so there was no banana taste. We also ordered the banana flambé , it also had tasteless undercooked bananas...
Bottom line, don’t waste your time or money eating here. I was raving about Shokudo, now I feel foolish.
I've gone to Shokudo a few times and have my favorites. The Honey toast is simple yet delicious in every way. I also love the mochi cheese gratin as a side and the spicy sushi pizza has a crunch and fire that you can find anywhere else.
We went here for my mom’s birthday. The servers were all really nice. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We also got a free Valentine’s Day strawberry honey toast in addition to the birthday bread pudding, which was really nice of them.
Huge fruit fly/cleanliness issue, took away from the experience.
Food quality was just average. Missed the popular Salmon Rice dish.
Food quality was better than average; however, server could have been kinder and tolerant to my elderly and valued business client who has survived a stroke several years ago, has trouble hearing and was bothered by a broken soy sauce bottle lid, which caused soy sauce to spill onto his hand when pouring.
When my client asked our server for a towel to wipe his hand, there was no apology, but received a curt answer to use an extra paper napkin nearby. We had to ask for drink refills and had several different servers bring the food piece meal and it took awhile for dishes to be finally taken away after consumption. I had to console my client as he was a bit upset and that should not happen during a business lunch where the food and service should be the least of my worries.
I believe in giving this place another try for a business lunch and see if results differ as I do like the food and location.
Our party of 8 couldn't get together during the holidays, so we came out to celebrate at Shokudo. The food is always good. The place was very busy but we we still received excellent service. This place handles parties well.
First time back to shokudo in a few years. Food was very disappointing - seared beef sushi was really bad - flavorless and tough. Kara age chicken was greasy. There were gnats swarming around our table as well and the family sitting next to us had their iPad turned on very loudly to entertain their toddler while dining. Only positive was the service - still very good.
Always good always fun. It’s a must spot to visit when in Honolulu- townside
The waiter was extremely patient and kind as a few of my friends were running late. Service was great, and like always the food was great as well.
Went there for New Year’s Eve with friends and was seated earlier than our 8:30 reservations. Ordered within 10 minutes of being seated and our main entrees came out 10 minutes before their 9:00 last call. We put in our dessert order at last call and we’re surprised it came immediately while we were still enjoying dinner. It’s ice cream, something anyone could do manually LATER as you see your guest still enjoying the dinners that came out so fricken late. Even the table across us who ordered the same salmon dish and was seated 20 minutes AFTER us got theirs first. We asked about our dinners and our server said they were being plated and when it came out, it went to the table across. The last complaint we had was the pork chop was spoiled! Our friend didn’t eat it & we smelled it and it had that funky spoiled smell. Terrible!
Food and services good . Fair prices
Our table server, Chris, was outstanding! We appreciated his patience and offer to answer any questions made us feel comfortable. Thank you & Happy New Year! Party of 6 from Chicago:)
Nice spot for big groups. Great food and service, too.
Jeremy was an excellent server. Friendly and efficient. He recommended a great drink and was so attentive. Thanks for making our lunch get together so special. We will be back.
very easy to make reservation from app, very children friend, since they gave us a car seat holder for our baby. Food is very good this time, way better then we visited last time. Though took a long time for Food to come out. Parking is a bit tough if u have a big truck.
.Christmas family dinner. Great service.
Food didnt come out at the same time. Food that was ordered was never brought out. Had to remind server and just cancelled the order. A bowl dropped and broke asked someone to help clean up area and he gave us attitude about it. One of the plates we received was dirty.
Food is always spot on and delicious. Service is great and prices reasonable... can't get better than that.
Greeted by friendly host. Seated quickly. Table service was enjoyable. Food was great. Thank
Consistently good with lots of menu items to choose from. Service was attentive and helpful. Parking is easy, just a nice place to meet your friends.
Service was great and the food was delicious. Would definitely eat there again.
We were staying in Ala Moana so wanted to stay pretty local. Shokudo was a 15 minute walk from our hotel. It's a big restaurant, and was pretty empty on a Tuesday night, so the noise level was very low. Our server was very helpful. We had two different tuna sashimi: maguro and a local tuna he said was very buttery. Both were good, though we preferred the less oily maguro. We also split a huge rainbow roll that was very good. I don't think the house specialty dessert, Honey Toast, is Japanese but it was sinfully good. With two beers, tax and tip, the bill came to $87, which is moderately expensive. Skip dessert (or the beers) and it's a moderately priced restaurant. It's not as traditional as some Japanese restaurants in Honolulu, but the taste is very good indeed.
The food was great; our server could've been more attentive and upfront. He knew we were celebrating my husband's birthday, so he said he'd bring a birthday dessert for him, so I said okay. I didn't know we'd be charged for it. Granted it was only $1 and delicious, he still should've told me. Most other comparable restaurants give a complimentary dessert.
Not great very disappointed 😔 never going back or recommending. Overall just not good food.
We are frequent patrons but last night the food wasn’t as good as normal and the service was slow.
Have been to Shokudo many times but it seems to get better and better.
Everything we ordered was to all of our liking, including my mother in law who is in her 90s.
Had the caterpillar and spicy ahi rolls which were delicious as usual. Tofu salad was especially good that night with just the right amount of sesame dressing that was not overpowering. also had the hamachi in ponzu sauce which was awesome.
Waitress suggested the Kikusui sake which hit the spot.
Finally had the deep fried bread pudding ala mode which was absolutely evil but delicious.
Very nice meal on a cool and rainy night.
3:55 pm. Was too late for us to order the tempura bowl. About 20 minutes later a family of four that sat two tables from us , that came in after my family had a tempura bowl brought to them. I asked my waiter Calvin about this and he went to get Maria I believe was her name and I asked why the other family could order the tempura bowl and not us. She said she’ll check , she came back and told me the other family had ordered before us , ( that was a lie) i then said whatever. She took our bill and came back with our change and I told her it’s funny how they ordered before us when they came in after us. Then she said oh that’s why we gave you 15 percent off and sorry about that. I felt as she tried to cover it up at first , instead of just trying to rectify the situation . The other family was also served before us , they’re were a white family and we’re a local Hawaiian family.
