This place is truly a gem in Honolulu/Waikiki area, food portions were generous and absolutely delicious. The unagi/rice bowl was superb and the ahi pupus were OMG insanely good. This is the best review of any restaurant in Honolulu I've left and can't imagine another place for the biggest bang for your dollars!!!
Great ambiance! Loved the fresh tofu salad and edamame.
Awesome customer service! Was in and out within an hour. Didn't have to wait long for food at all. Waiters were very nice.
Went to Shokudo the other night with my family, including 3 year old daughter. I was surprised to see the menu has shrunk drastically. There were far fewer choices for dinner, but we did enjoy the food we did order. We had the unagi rice (the salmon was my favorite, but no mo' on menu), the tofu salad, agadashi tofu, chicken katsu, teri salmon, and fries and udon for our child. The service was very good. Our server was very friendly, upbeat and attentive. The food came out fairly quickly but in no particular order. The one thing that was a bit off-putting was the reservation confirmation call from the restaurant where we were asked if we were aware of the 2 hour time limit restaurant policy. We had no intention of staying more than two hours but it was just a weird phone call.
It was a slow night and we got seated in a corner so was quiet. Service was excellent and we ordered too much food but got to take it home!
We were a party of 9 and were seated right away. The service was friendly and never made you feel as though you were imposing. The food came out quickly and as usual, everything was delicious! This is one of my favorite restaurants.
Definitely worth coming back. The food as well as the service was great. I wish I took the name of the server we had, he was really good. Will recommend this place to my family and friends!
Well... for starters I made a reservation on the OpenTable app and apparently when we showed up there was no such reservations. I even got a text to confirm the day before. I've booked other restaurants on this app and hadn't had a problem. Good thing when we showed up there was quite a bit of tables open so they sat us immediately. Happy hour is from 4-6pm and we got in at 5p so we did our damage and ordered from the happy hour menu. They had a great selection of pupus and drinks. My favorite had to be the dynamite fries and garlic clams, and the lychee mojito was awesome... we got the big mojito it was good for at least 3 servings but I could have probably taken that on myself. The food and the drinks were good but just that. The staff are friendly and our waiter was attentive to our needs. I'd probably return again but next time will make sure the reservations are in."
Tried to book a table on the website for 8pm but it was all booked till 10pm. So we came at 10 and were told only a simplified menu was available. Menu was really average and disappointing when we know how good the normal menu is. No mention of this was made when booking the table. Was was ok, service was average, no real reason why the whole menu was not available btw 10-12. Disappointing overall and not really making us want to come back. Such a shame
We enjoyed the food, especially the mocha cheese dish. I was sad that they no longer carry the lychee shoju, but the blushing geisha was good. Service was pretty good.
We always love coming to shokudo. Of course I had to get my usual which is lobster dynamite roll, agedashi tofu and to finish off my dining in I would get the honey toast as my dessert. I would also like to say Thank you to Erin for her excellent customer service. She always came back to our table to make sure everything was good. She was even rooting for us to win the golden ticket. But unfortunately we didn’t. She also told me that I could post my picture of the anniversary dessert on IG. But something was wrong with my phone because the picture came out blurry. So I didn’t end up posting it. That’s ok. I was really happy with my service over all. Thank you Shokudo & Staff!
Haven't found a dish I don't like yet. Both unique and very tasty. Do miss the mohito drinks.
-Did not provide utensils until we asked.
-Did not provide dessert menu and gave the check.
-We reserved on Open Table but were told to wait outside upon arrival for another 20 minutes. We noticed that a lot of open space were available and there were a lot of waiters and waitresses standing around not doing anything. We asked the Host and were just laughed at and told to follow to be seated.
This establishment needs to re-establish the needed professionalism and treatment of customers. At the end of the day, it is the paying people that provide the employees salary and circumstances like this makes this place unfavorable.
Food was amazing. Table was ready as soon as we got there. Waitress had great recommendations for Saki and food.
Great food as usual! & great service from our server and the other staff who checked on us!
Great happy hour eats but slow to get to table very busy
Todo muy bien, superó nuestras expectativas
As always, awesome food, friendly service, took care of our table and the unicorn honey toast was delicious!!! Took us right in when we got there, thank you for open table! We will be back...
Amazing service and food, Get the honey toast!
Attentive staff, delicious food and execution was timely. Will return to our regular eating venue.
This was my first time and we were very excited to try this place. My boyfriend went here before and loved their chicken Katsu. Today, it was not well executed. The chicken was not crispy and fatty. Surprisingly, the honey toast was pretty delicious.... Plus, our server was very attentive and friendly which made our stay enjoyable.
Save room for the honey toast. It is a delightful end to the meal.
Porkchops were delivered about 12 minutes after our other entree....we would prefer to have both orders delivered at the same time...
Went for our anniversary food was amazing, service was excellent (Kaleo) Honey Toast is a must of course
Came here for my birthday dinner. We had the sushi pizza and three other rolls, which were good. But a must is the honey bread.
Menu change was very disappointing. The service was good we had Sean taking care of us. Overall it was very good. Miss the vodka soda drinks once offered there.
Great service! Couldn't be more awesome. Very attentive. Thank you!!!
No wonder that our waiter said: "Everyone comes here." Great food, service and price was very reasonable. Recommended to us by several Honolulu friends.
Our party dined in a separate room which could seat 14 individuals. It was perfect for our family birthday party! Staff was very courteous and helpful. They checked in on us and made sure we had our food and drinks! Ordering the pupus and then ordering dinner items worked out well for us as as a couple of people came a little later but it didn't hold up the party! We brought our own birthday cake which the staff stored for us and then brought out with plates, candles and a knife. It worked out great!!!
Went for Valentine's Day dinner. Food took a long time. Waiter was very apologetic.
Horrible experience! This place has gone DOWN HILL! I thought I’d be a nice place to eat with my family from outer island, for my Dad’s birthday... BIG mistake! The decor was shabby, not in a chic way, the paint was rubbing of decor, dust above, menus were gross, the womens bathroom faucet didn’t work... ugh! The food was okay if you like under cooked shrimp tempura. The dishes that came out wasn’t timed right, one dish came out, 5 minutes later another dish came out, then another, finally after 20 minutes we all had our food. Asked for sushi to have meat medium rare, but it was definitely on the well side. For dessert we had the “honey toast.” It was okay, but not flavored enough, some pieces were like croutons. The other honey toast we had added bananas and caramel, the bananas were waaaay under ripe so there was no banana taste. We also ordered the banana flambé , it also had tasteless undercooked bananas...
Bottom line, don’t waste your time or money eating here. I was raving about Shokudo, now I feel foolish.
I've gone to Shokudo a few times and have my favorites. The Honey toast is simple yet delicious in every way. I also love the mochi cheese gratin as a side and the spicy sushi pizza has a crunch and fire that you can find anywhere else.
We went here for my mom’s birthday. The servers were all really nice. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We also got a free Valentine’s Day strawberry honey toast in addition to the birthday bread pudding, which was really nice of them.
Huge fruit fly/cleanliness issue, took away from the experience.
Food quality was just average. Missed the popular Salmon Rice dish.
Food quality was better than average; however, server could have been kinder and tolerant to my elderly and valued business client who has survived a stroke several years ago, has trouble hearing and was bothered by a broken soy sauce bottle lid, which caused soy sauce to spill onto his hand when pouring.
When my client asked our server for a towel to wipe his hand, there was no apology, but received a curt answer to use an extra paper napkin nearby. We had to ask for drink refills and had several different servers bring the food piece meal and it took awhile for dishes to be finally taken away after consumption. I had to console my client as he was a bit upset and that should not happen during a business lunch where the food and service should be the least of my worries.
I believe in giving this place another try for a business lunch and see if results differ as I do like the food and location.
Our party of 8 couldn't get together during the holidays, so we came out to celebrate at Shokudo. The food is always good. The place was very busy but we we still received excellent service. This place handles parties well.
First time back to shokudo in a few years. Food was very disappointing - seared beef sushi was really bad - flavorless and tough. Kara age chicken was greasy. There were gnats swarming around our table as well and the family sitting next to us had their iPad turned on very loudly to entertain their toddler while dining. Only positive was the service - still very good.
Always good always fun. It’s a must spot to visit when in Honolulu- townside
